Doctor Who 11x01 Clean Version (no logo)
And we are back with Doctor Who! I explain in my intro for those that want a recap of why I wanted to take a break, but I feel it's been the best decision. I am refreshed and ready for a new era!
A great first start and I already love our new Doctor. She's fun and quirky and I can't wait to get to know her better. And our new companions are GREAT. I already love Grahame!

I am so happy you decided to continue the Doctor Who journey. I’m sorry so many people were negative about Jodi’s run. And while I will admit that there are definite weaknesses, especially in this first series, I will also proudly exclaim that this is my second favorite Doctor, after Capaldi. I’m writing this in response to your opening remarks, so I have yet to see how you take to the new Doctor, but I anticipate you’re finding much joy in this iteration of our beloved Doctor.
Yay! You're watching the 13th Doctor! I appreciate you making an effort to reset and be open to what this era has to offer. I knew you'd love 13 right off that bat. I love the new look of the show, the new cinematography of this era. It's so beautifully shot. I love the visual echo of the famous painting "Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog" --when the Doctor watches Ryan working out his grief by trying to ride his bike. I get chills when the Doctor Who theme plays and 13's head pops up. Such a great entrance! I don't know how many times I've watched this episode. But the thing that hits stronger every time is how the Doctor deals with Tim Shaw. When they meet on the roof and she starts calling him Tim Shaw instead of T'Zim whatever, Graham protests, telling her "Don't wind him up!" But the Doctor keeps right on winding him up. And I think that's because she wants to be sure he will greedily do a total transference from the data coils, because that way the DNA bombs (that she has just put back into the gathering coils) will get transferred to him. The look on the Doctor's face as she watches Tim Shaw suck up all the data and the bombs from the coils! So many emotions play across her face! And then she meets him on the crane. She winds him up again and makes sure that she double checks that a DNA bomb was not put in Karl. When she says to him, as he writhes and oozes from the DNA bombs detonating, "You had a choice. You did this to yourself." That's true, but she made sure that the consequences of him making the wrong choice were going to be severe. 13 is so quirky and playful and fun -- and compassionate: she feels all the deaths in this episode so keenly -- and yet, she has as much steel in her as any of the Doctors.
Only saw the you tube version drop earlier so signed back up to Patron right away. Glad to see you back. Jodie's is one of my favourite Doctors (and I've been watching since the 80's) but really interested what you make of this era, good or bad.
Thank you, Jade! Taking some time off really was the right decision 💜
Juliette I’m Tom. I’m glad to have you back on Who! I love all Who and Jodi is one of my favorites! I’ll be along the ride with you! Wishing you all the best! ❤️
It's so good already, Tom! I'm so glad I ignored the haters and took some time off. They seem to have mostly gone by now 😅
I don't know why anyone would care whether the Doctor is a man or a woman. As long as the actor puts in a Doctor worthy performance it shouldn't matter, and Jodie seems to be doing just fine on that front. Anyway, it's nice to be watching Doctor Who along with you once again Juliette. Hope you have a great end to the week 💜
Eveyrone loves Graham. He is brilliant.
Yay, Doctor Who Fam is back! Good job to ignore youtube comments. This was the start of the #NotMyDoctor era where people got upset the Doctor wasn't a guy and they all shouted very loudly about the horror of a female Doctor...So take all their negativity with a pinch of salt. Personally I think Jodie is amazing as the Doctor and I enjoyed loads of good stuff during this era so if you liked this episode you should be fine :) Good idea to take a break between Doctors, at the time we had I think like nine/ten months between the end of 12 and this episode and a break does help. And remember....we are important!
There's the stupid hate comments about how they hate that the doctor is a woman now like that matters. The doctor is always replaced with someone new, but that's where they draw the line? Complaining about the show being "too political", when Doctor Who has always had some form of satire or political commentary in mind with conflict. Not to mention going to harass Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall. She's a lovely actress. And you've watched some Chris Chibnall stories in previous Doctor Who eras. He replaced Steven Moffat as showrunner. And then there's the more fair opinions of people just being upset with how they tell new stories in this era. I wasn't the biggest fan of the new companions or pacing when it aired. Honestly I wasn't over Peter Capaldi yet lmao. But now I can look back and appreciate what it tried to do. Which was try something new. I know they experiment with new ideas this season. I would ignore the bigots because their "criticism" is usually just being offensive and rude. I would go into this new season with an open mind and try to find things to be positive about.
I loved all the new episodes and paid no attention to others views Graham is played by Bradley Walsh, a well known actor and tv presenter in the UK before he appeared in Doctor Who. He appeared in 299 episodes of the longest running TV soap in the world, Coronation Street and won a Best Dramatic Performance Award at the British Soap Awards. He presented several game shows. Blankety Blank, Wheel of Fortune, Cash Trapped, Keep It in the Family, and Take Off He was also a footballer, signed by Brentford FC in 1978 but his football career ended due to an ankle injury
I'm so happy to see you return to Doctor Who after your break, especially occupying what for me is the same Wednesday evening slot as before. It's a shame those comments bothered you a bit but I think every Doctor Who reactor gets those even when they're some way off that point. I knew you'd love Thirteen almost instantly with her more outgoing and friendly personality and this was a pretty good debut for her. Things are going to be a bit different now with a slightly larger supporting cast and how the new sonic seems to more of a scanning device than anything else. Graham is the older man, and he's definitely my favourite of this group with his more relatable reactions to all the madness and danger. It does rub me up the wrong way though how Ryan is seen as in the wrong for not calling him 'grandad' as I have both step-parents and step-grandparents and I've never referred to them as if they were my actual parents/grandparents and nor would I ever want to. Maybe it's an autism thing and seeing them through the narrow and literal scope of them not being those relations. Oh and here is something I thought you'd like. Before becoming the Doctor, Jodie starred in a film with Brett Goldstein (who plays Roy Kent in Ted Lasso) and when he was unable to make an awards acceptance speech he wrote one for her to give instead, and it's hilarious. Brett actually shows up in this season, though like with Jodie this was before the role you (and most others) know him for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onMFNqTzv6k
I am really enjoying it already! Jodie does make a wonderful Doctor, quite happy go lucky and full of beans. I really like that about her. And the companions are great already. I am drawn to Graham the most (always with the older characters!) and I am excited to see his relationship with Ryan grow. The negative comments get to be a LOT when it's the same junk over and over again. "Downhill, don't watch, hate it". It's just over and over again, hundreds of comments like it. I know I probably shouldn't read comments like most other reactors... but I do enjoy them for the most part as generally most people are good people 💜
Glad your back doing doctor who reactions I hope you can enjoy this era and have your own personal opinions on it, I personally skipped this era because i saw online that many people didnt like it and was very negative but I did a rewatch ahead of the 60th anniversary and It was no where as bad as people made it out to be
I think that's the thing. It's always the negative people that are loudest! I just hope they stay away from the youtube comments. I'm thinking of not reading any as I don't want to be surrounded by negativity 🥺
So glad you've returned to the whoniverse Jules, I look forward to your reactions again.
I really hope you enjoy!! I've watched a few episodes now and I'm really loving it. The companions are great, too, and Jodie makes an excellent Doctor 💜
Yeahhh finally!!! I can’t wait to rewatch my favorite era with you.
I love that you're excited, Brian!! I'm so glad I had a break. I really feel a lot of the negative commenters would have gone by now, and I've given the 13th Doctor the very best of chances with me feeling refreshed 💜
