Arcane 2x05 Edited & Full
Beautiful episode... All the emotions and feels in this one. I think back to one lone comment on youtube when I started watching Arcane, telling me that season 2 is "woke and bad" and I'm sorry, but to me it's just not.
So excited to see what happens next!

Vi looks hot, but sadly she does not look well. She hides her whole former self β her name tattoo, her red hair, she got rid of her red jacket and her enforcer uniform. π’π Jinx is for the first time in years in a better place than her sister. Isha has done so much to evolve Jinx to a new Jinx 2.0, that recognizes and embraces the Powder in her. And this Powder wants her big sister back. She just doesn't know how to get to her without Vi attacking her immediately. The arrival of Vander was the trigger that let her reach out to Violet and to get her out of her downwards spiral. When she says: βLooking good, sisβ, you can see that it is Powder looking at Vi. Similar to the prison scene she tries to cover up her insecurity with a joke. Vi finally sees her sincerity and decides to give her a chance. After all, she still wants her little sister back, too. π DETAIL: Yyou can see that Vi still wears the enforcers badge on her belt that Caitlyn gave her, only now with the badge on the inside. You can see this throughout the entire episode. Another hint that she is anything but over her cupcake...πππ I love that Vi straight-up asks her why Jinx took her with her. Until their big fight she still saw herself as the protector of her little sister and had to realize that she isn't needed in that function anymore. But Jinx showed her that she is still needed as a big sister and as a daughter. The sisters found Vanders and Silcos old mining office/shelter. There are gauntlets on the side and all kinds of mining equipment. It made me tear up again to see Jinx smell Vanders jacket, trying to remember him. Then the obviously never found message made Jinx tear up. Vi was so close β so close to comfort her sister but pulled her hand away the last moment. And the way she looks over her shoulder at her sister β she is getting there, but she is still so unsure how it would be received...π³π DETAIL: When Vi takes the glass from Vanders message you can see the dust of years stir and a bright round imprint where the glass stood for so long. The giant leap of faith Vi made when she goes against her MO and stopped fighting Vander - listening to her sister and lowering her gauntlets to an enraged Vander - that is so unbelievably brave.π±π Felicia is Vis and Jinx' mother. She looks, moves and sounds like a perfect mixture of her daughters. Her hair is a mixture of purple and blue. She is built like Vi (albeit not that buff). Her face resembles more Powder, but the eyes are Vis. Her voice is full and deep like Vis, but sounds a little raspy like Jinx'. She has Jinx' sass. π DETAIL: Felicia gets the same drink, in the same kind of cup, with the same kind of straw and sitting a the same place at the bar as her younger daughter many years later. She even plays with her straw like Jinx. π Jayce has seen things, he looks like he's been through hell. Judging by his looks for a long time. He has a constant expression of horror and anger on his face...π±π€― DETAIL: Back in the mesh chamber at the bottom of the hexgate tower you can see Jayces breath, because it is so cold in there. Yet Salos breath is nowhere to be seen. π€π§ Can't we just end the story of the Vi and Jinx here? They found each other again and lived happily ever after? No? Yeah, wrong show...π πππ This quote from Dantes "Divine Comedy" applies to Arcane perfectly : "All hope abandon, ye who enter here."
So my feeling is that "woke" as a concept has had its meaning bastardised and is now used far too liberally by certain people. There are of course examples of wokeness in media but, according to my definition of the concept, I really don't think Arcane is one of them. I don't think this season is bad either. I'm watching it for the first time along with your reactions and I'm thoroughly enjoying every episode. Anyway, thanks for another great reaction Juliette. I hope you're having a most lovely week π
Vi and Powder's dad (Connol) is mentioned in the conversation Vander and Silco have with Felicia (the mother) in this episode. We've briefly seen them both before waaaay back in the very first scene of the first episode. Both their bodies are shown on the bridge. And then later in season one, after Vi is injured and hiding out with Caitlin, Vi momentarily sees Caitlin as Felicia. There might be other appearances I'm forgetting, but this episode is definitely the first time she's spoken.
But Jules, it had two girls kissing! Of course itβs βwoke and bad.β Itβs so sad to me what some people allow themselves to get worked up over and deprive themselves of art, or worse, opportunities to connect with people. This was a beautiful episode. So much feels and so many revelations. The background to see Vander and Silcoβs connection to Vi and Powderβs mom, really puts a different perspective on Silco taking in Powder. He made the same commitment to her mother and seemed to care for her like Vander did. Only 4 episodes left. I wonβt say which one, but I think you still have the most beautiful episode ahead of you.
Honesty, I agree Joe... It just baffles me. It's 2026. I cannot stand the word 'woke'. I'm in a bad mood today as I slept poorly so I better stop myself before I go off on a tangent π
