Uploading Question...?

Hello! I hope you all have a lovely weekend ahead ☺️ I received a comment just now, suggesting that YouTube edits be upload to Patreon so there would be no ads. I was just wondering if this is something more people would like as well?

If so, I could start uploading the edited episodes of current shows like Dollhouse, Ted Lasso and Arcane. I need to double check a few things such as Patreon storage space and make sure there's enough and also make sure that people would use Patreon to watch the edited versions so it would be worthwhile uploading both the edited & full versions here.

Another option could be to turn off ads until the edited version is made live on YouTube, but that would have a very short shelf life without the ads (a week or two) so it probably wouldn't be the best option.

I know a few of you have YouTube Premium which means no ads, but I understand not everyone has this.

Please let me know as I'm always looking for ways to make this place better for you 💜 Thank you!!

Well, I'd ask how it affects the analytics. As I mentioned before, would hosting the YouTube version here cut into its views there? I can't really imagine many people would really mind watching YouTube edits on YouTube. We want convenience, but we also want to help your brand. 🙂 🏳️‍🌈🖖💚💜

Some creators upload a “first cut” YT edit on their Patreon before they’re forced to start trimming it down further so YT leaves you in peace. They may need to keep the video on Vimeo because of storage limitations—I’m not sure as I don’t operate a channel, but it makes sense from what I’ve seen. I’ll take loud note that the same music excerpts YT makes such a fuss about in video clips they make available FOR FREE on YT (with advertising at start). See an explanation? I do. Kinda stinky, so… I would start my reactions with a 3 second “fair use” notice stating (for rxample) that: “The following video is for presented for purposes of discussion, analysis, commentary and/or reaction to content. Copyright is retained by the various owners and authors of the included materials.” If the cost of Vimeo is an issue, maybe create an access tier (perhaps 50% more? Your access is priced very modestly so that kind of increase to offset an increased cost for you isn’t unreasonable IMO. Just one view, but I’d do it. 😄) I don’t have YT premium and am not likely to get it. I do have Max & Disney+ as part of my cable/internet bundle, Prime & Netflix as additional services. Plate is full! Wallet… 😢 Obviously I don’t know the circumstances of your other members/Patrons. So in short, I want to help keep your YT stats up and would go to your site to Like everything I watched on Patreon (it’s important, guys!) but I couldn’t actually watch it on both Patreon and YT and my preference is least edits and adverts on Patreon. Thanks!!

Thank you for your suggestions, Joe! I have uploaded a couple of first cuts before but thankfully I don't have that many issues with youtube and copyright, usually it's just music related rather than the image. I'm not sure about adding another tier to patreon as I think people can pay whatever they like when they sign up (above the normal tier price) so I'd have to think of some extra benefits if I were to add a more expensive tier 😊 and I'm not sure what else I could do haha I am at my limit for time as it is pretty much. I think I'll keep going how I have been as most people don't seem to mind watching the episode on youtube 💜

For me it doesn't make a difference, so whatever's best for you is good for me too.

I always watch the full reactions on Patreon, and also have YouTube Premium anyway, so I don't really have an opinion either way. Regarding the limited storage space on Patreon though, and I've mentioned this to you before, some reactors have unlisted/private video reactions uploaded to a non-monetised YouTube channel and then just share the links to their Patreon members. I believe that way you don't get ads on YouTube? (Because full reactions with ad breaks obviously wouldn't work for syncing). Maybe that's something you could look into when you start running out of space on Patreon. Or you could go the cloud storage route but there is obviously a cost involved there. I don't really know what else you could do other than just start deleting old reactions to make space, but that would be a real shame as they would then be lost to both new Patreon members and also longtime members who might like to rewatch them at some point.

Yeah, losing the older reactions would be a shame! I think part of the idea is to foster a community, no? A library of reactions with Jules’ unique style & take would be at the heart of that. We both offered different possible approaches… 🌝

I only watch the edited versions of Ted Lasso on youtube because you're no longer posting those on Patreon separately like you did with Doctor Who. That means that if you went back to sharing those on Patreon I'd watch and comment through here again.

I only watch the full versions, so if if it ever meant, In terms of storage space, you'd have to drop any of the past reactions I'd say no. For example, it may be awhile before I get to early Dr. Who reactions. I wouldn't want to find out I'd missed them by waiting too long. More importantly, please don't *ever* drop any full Buffy reactions! (or, even, Angel). I may still be rewatching some of them years from now. If I ever feel the need to smile, they are always the cure.

I'd never remove full reactions from here, don't worry 💜 this is only about uploading edited versions that are already on youtube 😊

Can't say that it would make a difference for me. I use a browser that blocks all youtube ads... I never see 'em 😈

It would neither bother nor help me. I like the YouTube edits just fine.

I'll be real honest, once I'm signed up to someone's Patreon I tend to only ever watch the full reaction and mostly just pass on the YouTube edits entirely. Obviously the main considerations should be what you think is best for the channel and what the time and effort impact would be for you, J. And I can't remember how your tiers are structured, would it impact folks in the entry level tiers? But at the end of the day for myself, personally, I'm not really too fussed about it one way or the other. I realize that probably doesn't help one whit, sorry😆

Which would help your analytics? Would more people watching here, not there, matter? I'd be cautious as to how it might impact your brand and how many people you can reach. 🏳️‍🌈🖖💜💚

DG, you always are thinking about the things I don't 💜 I'd say that watching the edits on youtube are indeed more beneficial!

I mean I usually click on the YouTube edit but not having commercials would be nice. I also watch on my phone and the YouTube window resets when it goes widescreen which is sometimes annoying.

I personally love the YouTube edits being on YouTube because I definitely prefer the YouTube player over the Patreon one... But I'm also on the YouTube Premium so I haven't seen an ad on YouTube in 8 years lol Maybe you could do both? Upload the YouTube edit to Patreon and just include the link to watch it on YouTube as well, if people still want to watch it there...
