Jojo Rabbit - Edited & Full
Another recommendation from one of you lovely lot and again, it was perfect for me! I am honestly so thankful and grateful for those that take the time to recommend something you think I'd like. So much thought goes into that, and I touch on it a bit at the end of my outro. But I really am so happy 💜
I loved this movie. It had a bit of everything, even humour which I really wasn't expecting and in the beginning I felt bad for laughing given the context of the movie 😶
I have decided on the next movie and I have mentioned it in a previous comment in a reply, but otherwise it will be a surprise 😋 A little hint is.... It's an animated movie from 1999. The watching and editing has been working out well. I do both in the one week, and the next week I focus on regular editing. And I decided this time to put a faint logo over the edited version because last week my 3 Idiots video got copyright claimed (not blocked though) so now all youtube ad revenue for that one goes to someone else. It wasn't making much anyway, so I'm just going to leave it like that. Maybe the logo will prevent this from happening in the future for movies!

I'm a little late to the party, but I just have to say some words about this wonderful, heart-wrenching movie...😅❤️ Phew... I am so happy you liked that movie, because I think it is not only truly beautiful, but also very important in its message. 😊 It is so heartwrenching to see the fantasy world of a fanatic little boy and the real world he lives in collapse in such a brutal way...🙈 One moment you laugh about some of the absurdities and in the next moment they get all too violently real. It looks goofy and adventurous and colorful, because we see the world through Jojos eyes. But you can feel the underlying danger and fear all the time. Every now and then reality intrudes his happy little fantasy world, until it all comes to a crashing halt and he has to face reality. It hits me everytime very hard to watch this, because in many ways, I was this boy. Or better, I was a boy like Jojo at that age. See, I am from Germany and I spent the first eleven years of my life in the GDR, the communist dictatorship half of the then divided country. Just like him I was filled to the brim with all this propaganda bullshit I learned in school, took part in the youth organisations (the depiction in the movie is sadly all too close to the truth - as absurd as it seems) and saw all this "teaching the childrens war" as a big adventure. And just like him I was raised by a single mother who tried to reason with me to save the innocent child that I was. And like Jojo, I fought lots of stupid fights with her and everybody who tried to convice me that the allmighty party was wrong. (Not that there were many, standing up against them could be very dangerous.) I would have made a perfect little stupid soldier. Now that I'm older I really admire my mother for how she handled me at the time and I'm for ever grateful to her for that. I saw much of her in Scarlett Johanssons portrayal of the mother...😍 Then suddenly (at least in my eyes) the Soviet Empire collapsed and East Germany was on its own, the people threw over the now powerless regime and got reunited with West Germany shortly after. Long story short, I can perfectly relate to this boy and how he looked at the world, because I experienced first hand what propaganda, hate speech and fake news could do to a very impressionable kid. It was a very hard reality check, when the world I was trained to serve suddenly ceased to exist and non of the things I learned mattered anymore. But I got along and found my way into this new world. 🙂 This movie depicts the intellectual world of a fanaticized ten-year-old with a very creative imagination so very good...😱🤩 And Taika Waititis way of playing the imaginary Hitler is spot on. In the colorful fantasy world of an imaginative boy, who knows next to nothing about the real Hitler, he would probably look and behave exactly like this. The depiction of the last days of the Nazi-regime was shockingly real - the madness, the panic, the fighting old people and child soldiers, none of this is exaggerated or made up (well, except for the clones 😅🙈). I found myself permanently laughing and crying at the same time, because I know first hand how close to reality this movie is. The more absurd it seems, the more real it was.
Great movie! The story it told was very good and the mixing of comedic moments alongside the horrors of war, as seen through the perspective of a 10 year old worked so well. The cast was also excellent. Everyone put in a great performance no matter the size of their role, with the actor that played Jojo being the obvious highlight. I'm glad that you're enjoying the recommendations you've been getting. It's actually worked out well for me too as I'm also watching, and enjoying, some of these movies for the first time myself (JoJo, Perfect Days, 3 Idiots & Dangal). If you want a few more recommendations I would suggest Almost Famous, The Truman Show, In Your Eyes and Pleasantville. Thanks for another awesome video Juliette and I hope you're having a lovely weekend 💜
Hello, Neil!! I'm still recovering after my weekend. I had to paint the garage after getting plumbing replaced and I am still sore all over 😭 it hurts to even move over in bed!! Out of your movies, I've only seen The Truman Show (I am a big Jim Carrey fan, or I was more so when I was a teen) but I love the sound of Pleasantville! I like the B&W effect! If you need me, I'll be here shuffling around like a very old lady (even more so than usual). Hopefully you're faring a bit better than me 😅💜
I really like this film! Obviously bold to make a comedy of this topic… but I think it’s really good. There’s also some interesting moments of humanity within it like when that soldier lets the girl go even though she got the details wrong on her ID and when they make sure Jojo gets away at the end so he isn’t shot by the soldier. Scarlett is very good in this movie as well. But yeah on the synopsis alone you don’t think it’s a film you’d enjoy but I really like it!
I do think it's very bold, too! It's like "Um... should I be laughing about this 👀😶" but I think it's a unique take on such a bad thing. Little Jojo was adorable but I can't help but worry about his future. At least it's looking a bit better with Hitler being gone from the world and his imagination, so that's a win!
Thank you for the kind words on recommendations. I enjoy trying to think about what a person would like and thinking of movies they would connect to. The fact that you picked even one is great and have no expectations you will get to them, but since you picked one and liked it, here is my updated list: O Brother Where Art Thou Almost Famous Little Miss Sunshine Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Big Lebowski Grand Budapest Hotel The Wild Robot
The brilliance of this movie is there's no filler. Every scene is important in some way.
Love the birds in the background.
I am so glad/relieved you enjoyed it. Obviously, WW2 and the Holocaust is a difficult topic for anyone to engage in, but particularly as a Jewish person, I find stories about this time period important but challenging to watch. These are the stories of sadness. loss, and branches of our family tree that stopped growing. So, injecting it with humor works for me, because that is often how I address challenging topics. However, if you are going to make a comedy about Nazis and Jews in WW2 Germany, you are walking such a fine line that could go horribly wrong at any moment. I think Taika (the director, writer, and actor who played imaginary adolf), who is also Jewish, and all involved manage to thread that needle so well in this movie. I think that telling it from the perspective of a 10-year-old child is key to making this work. I also like how the tone of the movie changed as it went along in a way that matched him coming to terms with the fact that playing soldier is different than being one and with the impact his country and his hero's actions were having on people. I have not seen this movie in several years, and what struck me this time was the different perspective I had as a parent. Being a parent is tough in any time period. There is always this balance of trying to be the fun parent, yet also trying to manage the stress of navigating your own life. You have to make decisions around when you need to teach your children tough lessons and when to let them be kids. And all that when my life is relatively good. I cannot imagine trying to be a parent in times like that. Trying to be present and fun when the world is literally falling apart around you. Helping your kid dress like a nazi and go to nazi camps because that keeps him safe, when it is against everything you stand for. I don't know how parents during this time and other past and present times of such tragedy manage. Ok, I am going to go hug my children now. Thank you for even considering our recommendations, much less acting on them.
Joe 💜 You speak so much truth here!! I think it's why I felt uncomfortable at first finding it funny, because it's such a serious and harrowing topic. It's not something most people laugh about! But injecting that humour, especially towards the end when Rebel Wilson was giving the children weapons, highlighted how absurd and ridiculous and useless war and that situation was. Jojo's journey away from wanting to be part of the Nazi's was excellently told. I don't think he realised exactly what it was all about, he just wanted to be a part of something like he saw so many others doing. I love that he grew and changed and learned. Such a wonderful movie and told from a VERY unique perspective which I adored. And I love the recommendations I get here! You guys actually get me, you take the time to think about what I'd like rather than just recommending random popular things 🥹 It's why I've loved these movies so much as they've been hand picked! Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Joe 👋
Remember the shoes...
Yes 😭 It makes sense why they were so prominent!
Think this is Scarlett Johanson's and Sam Rockwell best performances.
Yep. Gonna need the tissues.
