Ted Lasso 1x05 Tan Lines Edited & Full
This is such a great episode. I'm very much enjoying this show, and it's another that I've fallen in love with and never would have seen if I didn't make this kind of content. So again, I'm so grateful!
I hope everyone had a good weekend! It was a little cooler here (low 20c) which was a nice change. I've missed the way a crisper air feels. It's always so hot and muggy. To be able to wear pjs and wrap up in a blanket is so welcome.

I love how you corrected Ted's pronunciation of "scones" :-D
It's one of those things that I can't let slide 馃ぃ
@Juliette - It rang hollow when you said that Ted and Michelle don't have shared interests. I took a beat and thought about their relationship and I want to share a different perspective. Although it isn't explicitly stated, the assumption is that Ted and Michelle's marriage was a long one. I would think that it pre-dated Henry's arrival by years/decades with all the things that implies. While Michelle "needed some space", I think that Ted got close to the core of the issue when discussing why he took the job at Richmond, "I think at some point I realized that me being around so much was doing more harm than good. Like, anytime I tried to solve any of her problems, or... do something sweet for her, it just would backfire." You also hit the nail on the head when you mentioned Ted's pathological optimism. I think that over time Michelle just pulled away from Ted because he would never be real with her. He always deflected everything sad, or depressing, or an actual feeling that he was having. Michelle pulled away and then started rejecting Ted because she could see he was faking it. He was putting up an emotional wall and hiding (or protecting her from) something. Another reason for my initial response is that Ted's relationship with his family is at the core of who he is. By extension, that relationship, and other related things, are at the core of the show. These are just my thoughts. Stay tuned for more twists and turns and tears. Now I'm off to learn Mumford & Sons' "Forever" on the piano.
Kevin, I love your thoughts here. I agree that if Ted and Michelle were together for a while, maybe they grew apart a little and then with Ted's eternal optimism... Maybe Michelle just really wanted something deeper and Ted maybe just doesn't like going there? SUCH interesting thoughts, thank you!! How did you go with the piano, by the way? 馃挏
This is such a great episode. So often in movies and shows break ups are because of an affair, a fight, or major event. There is a clear good guy and bad guy. But in real life sometimes people just fall out of love. His wife seemed like a good person who was sincerely trying to make it work. We have grown close enough to Ted though in the first half of the season to feel his loss and pain, both in letting a woman go he does still have love for and fighting the feeling that he is quitting on his family. The show is at its best when it has both heart and laughs. So glad you are enjoying the journey.
I love seeing a different side to Ted that's not just all positivity and sunshine. He is SUCH a great character and I honestly adore him. I hate seeing him go through a divorce but at least it does seem mostly amicable. I do love how the breakup does feel very real.... No fanfare, nothing too over the top. Just... real.
Hi Juliette 馃憢 I've also fallen in love with this show and it's one I also never would have seen if you didn't make this kind of content, so, I'm very grateful to you! The cooler air must feel so refreshing after it being hot and muggy for so long. Here in London it's basically not stopped raining for a whole month now and I'm so fed up of getting wet every time I leave the house (especially since I'm crazy and am still cycling to work). As always I very much enjoyed your reaction and post-episode thoughts. Thanks for the video and have yourself a great day Juliette 馃挏
What episode are you up to now, Neil? You must be close to season 3 by now! I don't mind the rain, but not when I'm out and about in it. It doesn't rain much here so I usually just decide to stay home on those days if it's a weekend. I hate driving in it as the people here seem to go CRAZY. There are so many bad drivers when the weather is sunny, but add rain to the mix and it's almost dangerous to leave the house 馃ぃ Have a lovely evening, Neil! I hope you're doing well 馃挏
