"In your 40s?" You look like you're in your late twenties. Or did I hear that wrong? Anyway, I agree with you about Helena and her yearning for love. Many people treat Helena as 2 dimensional, some black and white character that is just evil, malicious, and immoral -- some super Egan cult leader. I don't think she is. I think she's lived a very sheltered and oppressed life, and she's just playing her part as an Egan. And in my opnion one of the reasons she agreed to get severed was to participate in a life that maybe she dreamed about growing up, a life with no ties to the Egan name or family. You're correct in believing that Helena felt something when watching the video footage of Mark kissing Helly. That was an obvious visceral reaction she had to the kiss. It wasn't curiousity or a "how dare she." It was a wtf moment for her, as in "whoa...I have a love interest - I kissed somebody down there." That type of reaction. Also, remember that it was Helena that woke up in the elevator after Helly hung herself. When she woke up and saw Mark genuinely worried about her and then she passed out. So, that could have affected her in a way, to have someone look at her in that way, a man, a love interest. So, from then on, she began spying and taking a bit longer watching the videos of Mark S. down on the severed floor. And then she sees the kiss. That combined with the fact that Helly has tried to harm her a number of times probably convinced her to go down to the severed floor acting as Helly. Is she there to spy? Possibly. But why? They can put cameras and mics everywhere. Why would she need to go down herself? Doesn't make sense. Does she want to split up the team? Well, if she did, then she's going about it the wrong way by being overly nice to Irving in the beiggning and to Mark, saying stuff like, "Are you okay? We got you. I'll help you look for your wife. I hope I'm not distracting you from looking for your wife. Etc. etc." While I don't think the only reason she is there is to experience hanging out, flirting, and being close to someone who geniuinely likes her and is attracted to her, I do think it's one of the primary reasons she went down. I mean, remember in this episode right before Irv surprised her at the waterfall, she went out to go see the waterfall, and she had this look of complete peace, like she as happy for the first time in her life. She had a sincere smile on her face and then Irv showed up and the smile turned into a frown. I don't think Helena is Cruella Deville in any way shape or form. And in the later episodes, which you've seen already, when she meets up with him at the diner, she does have other motives, but let's be honest, she just had sex with the man a day before. She wanted to see him and be near him. Anyway, loving your reactions so far.
I love your thoughts with regards to this episode!! I was fascinated by Helena's interest when it came to Mark. I found it so intriguing, and everything you said I agree with! Thank you for your compliment, by the way! Yes, I am 45 😶 most days I don't feel it (in my head) but my body is a bit slower these days, that's for sure haha
"Yes, do it *Seth*!" I loved his delivery of that line! :D
Juliette, This one is a very revealing episode. Not only was Helly usurped by Helena, but the whole Kier myth was literally laughed at by Ms. Eagan. Are the stories about Kier and Dieter made up by the Eagans to generate a backstory for their cult? Also, the "thieving nanny" sounds like a story from a narcistic filthy rich schoolboy who wanted to get his nanny in trouble. Even if it is real, and not something an employee in the marketing department just made up, it probably has little actual value for four grown adults. Then again, they have the mental age of teenagers. Remember that Irv is from a military family. He himself may have been in military intelligence, or just have a very skeptical mind, in order to sus out that Helly was actually Helena. I agree that one of the reasons that Helena took Helly's place these last few episodes is that even though she see the innies as sub-human, Helly is being loved in a way that Helana has never been. When she watches Helly kiss Mark I think one of her main feelings is jealousy. So, of course, Helena is going to go take that love for herself. So many other questions remain: What are "Quality meats"? Are they just deli cold cuts and hot dogs because the innies wouldn't know the difference? Why are the thickness of bathroom tissues a perk? Where are Ms. Wong's parents? Do they know that she is out so late? What was that dead animal and did Milchick know it was there? (doubtful) Where does Milchick store the four doppelgangers when they are not in use? Happy Christmas and remember, "Every time you find yourself here, it's because you chose to come back"!
"Are the stories about Kier and Dieter made up by the Eagans to generate a backstory for their cult?" That is such a great point! I wouldn't put it past them! Goodness, Kevin, you also raised a very valid point about Irv as well! He is from a military family, perhaps even he served so he has this absolutely brilliant mind that sees things others don't! I hope you have a lovely Christmas, too! And your very last words "Every time you find yourself here, it's because you chose to come back" can relate to many situations one I deal with a lot in nasty youtube comment sections! HAHA! Thank you 💜
Hi Juliette. The setting for this episode was just beautiful to look at wasn't it? I don't know how much fun it would actually be to stay in a freezing forest, but it certainly looked beautiful. I wonder, would you like to go on one of your hikes in such a place? How amazing was Irv here? Doing what he did to bring Helly back knowing the grave consequences it might have. Just amazing. And speaking of Helly, what a plot twist! I remember feeling so shocked and in disbelief when I first saw the reveal! What do you mean it's been Helena Eagan and not Helly R. this whole season!!!??? 🤯 Great reaction as ever Juliette, and I hope you have a great start to the week 💜
Irv is THE BEST!! (my excited fingers typed Beast, but I suppose that could be apt, too!). Irv has caught my attention from the early days. He seems like such a charming and polite fellow but he has this beautiful side to him that is so clever. He is so unassuming!! I would LOVE to go on a hike where they went! Maybe not in the snow. But I sure would love to see the worlds biggest waterfall 😂 I honestly did not pick up that it was Helena. Even watching the episodes back when editing, I couldn't tell. I feel bad!! Thank you, Neil 💜 it's a hot day here today, and I think it will be a struggle to get much done! I hope you have a lovely rest of your week leading up to Christmas 🥰
Wait this was not what you were expecting after the last episode? This show never ceases to surprise. The dead seal, the “tallest” waterfall on earth, the weird copies of our crew. Everything is just so wonderfully bizarre. Hope you are having a lovely holiday! Looking forward to your reactions to the rest of the season.
THE SEAL!! And the waterfall!! I love that it's always the unexpected. Keeps us on our toes! I hope you have a lovely Christmas as well 🥰
