Severance 2x01 Hello, Ms Cobel
We are BACK! Season 2, let's go! What a fantastic beginning. It's not at all what I expected to see, but I love that it's taken me by surprise and is VERY different to what I thought.
When you first saw this, what did you think this episode would be like?

Here are a couple of my thoughts on the episode: Innie Mark got off the elevator and franticly ran to, try to, see Ms. Casey again. That sequence apparently took six months to shoot. Adam Scott has remarked that he knew it was a running scene day because the production assistants would have his favorite sports drink set out for him. As they came down in the elevator all of the innies were "waking up" for the first time since they were their outies last season. That is why Mark had that look on his face because he just yelled, "She's Alive!" to Devon, Helly stumbled out of the elevator after having been pushed off stage, and Irving was pounding on the elevator door that a second ago was Burt's front door. Dylan was the only one who had a calm entrance because he, presumably, left the severed floor on his own after "Milkshake" kicked him out of the security office. No one knew what the others had experienced as they were never their innies before we see them now. To my knowledge, the show will always show our team of refiners when they are their innies. If someone misses a day or is sick there is dialogue from the other innies commenting about it. For example, Helly asking about Mark missing a work day after she tried to smuggle a note up the elevator. Granted, the show will skip showing the entire work day when nothing is happening, or they are actually working on their files. Know that we are constantly learning more about what is actually going on and that the show only gets better from here.
WAIT... the running sequence took 6 months to shoot?! This is why I don't work on tv or movies as there's no way I'd ever think it would take that long! That has blown my mind!
You asked what we thought this episode would be. This is a show that is really hard to have expectations, other than you know it will be delightfully weird, you hope you will get some questions answered, but you know you will leave with more questions. So, it matched those expectations. I did think Mark would be back because it was the best way for him to see Ms. Casey, but I was not sure how we would see the others. How great was that scene where he was running around looking for Ms. Casey? You mentioned that you thought we would pick up right where we left off, and to the innies we did (no matter how much time off passed on the outside.) My favorite part of this episode though was Ms. Wong. Putting kids in a creepy environment always adds to the creepiness. She is a child because of when she was born, seems as reasonable an explanation as any. Lastly, the new female refiner was played by the same actor who played Maeby Funke on Arrested Development, which I think is the funniest comedy ever (if you're looking for comedy recommendations.)
I love how it's constantly so different to what I imagine it would be! I am always left amazed with it all. It's truly fascinating! I hope you had a great weekend, Joe!
I know this is boring BUT yesterday I went for a small 1.5 hour hike through a fire break trail in a conservation park and I saw a big brown koala! It was extra exciting as I wasn't expecting to see him. He was just chilling in the tree! Anyway - that was my weekend! I hope you all had a good one, too 馃挏
