What to watch?

I'm kind of stuck with deciding between Ted Lasso and Battlestar Galactica... Both these shows come highly recommended. BSG has been recommended for a while whereas Ted Lasso is something I've only really taken note of recently as after I started the Good Place, I was told Ted Lasso is also very wholesome and has a wonderful friendship theme.

I've also read some comments saying BSG is a little dark at times, but I did wonder if it would appeal more to those who have been enjoying Doctor Who. (I'm very new to sci-fi - Doctor Who is where it started for me!)

I'm kind of leaning towards Ted because it does sound lovely and wholesome, right?

If you have any other suggestions, please leave them in the comments. I'd add an "Other" poll option but it might skew this poll a little and I want to just gauge interest between these two shows for now. I might choose something else entirely or even come back with more shows haha

After The Good Place, I want to react to Man on the Inside with Ted Danson but that's a pretty short series so I'm just trying to decide in advance. Thank you everyone for your help💜

(I'm having this coming week as a little break and won't be on the computer as much but there won't be any breaks in the uploads. I might be a little quiet though as I'll be out climbing a mountain or going to an escape room 👀)

Veronica Mars!

I think it depends on what your mental state needs. If you are looking for something wholesome, Ted Lasso for sure. It is a phenomenal show. If you want something to make you think with a darker themes, Battlestar Galactica all the way. Both shows are the right choice, because they are both just that good.

I love both, but there is only one show (anywhere) that can match The Good Place's feel-good factor. And that's Ted Lasso. It's short episodes too, so won't be too much of a slog to edit. It's the perfect replacement. But please don't take Veronica Mars off the list for the future.

I personally like Battlestar Galactica more, but Ted Lasso is definitely a Jules show, so that's what I'm voting for. Either way, both are great shows.

I know this probably won't ever happen but I'm always gonna want you to return to the X Files. It's where I started watching your channel, and besides Doctor Who, it's my favorite of your reaction series'.

I've not seen Ted Lasso before so I won't vote, but from what everyone is saying it seems like it might be a good fit to carry on with some The Good Place style vibes. I will say that you should definitely watch BSG at some point, even if only for yourself, as it is an absolutely amazing show and is very high on my list of all-time greats (make sure you start with the mini-series first if you do watch it).

Ted Lasso

Alice Summers · September 29, 2025

I'm not really that familiar with either but I'd be more likely to watch you do Ted Lasso. Maybe that sort of thing is just what you need rather than something else too 'heavy', after Angel and alongside Doctor Who (especially with what's coming up).

Battlestar Galactica!!!!! Lol it's only my favorite show 😀

They're both very good shows. Particularly to start. Both shows actually have final seasons that are a bit of a mixed bag. I think it just comes down to what you are trying to accomplish. If you're trying to replace The Good Place and want to capture a similar vibe and audience, then Ted Lasso is great. If you're trying to replace the Buffyverse with something epic and a little darker, BSG fits the bill. You can't really go too wrong with either. A couple final thoughts. Ted Lasso is around a third as long as BSG, if that factors in. Also, if you are sensitive to any sort of content, look up some trigger warning guides or ask a trusted friend to help you because BSG has it all (suicide, drug abuse, sexual assault, etc.).

I haven't watched either, but I get the impression you would really like Ted Lasso, and I intended to watch it eventually. Some other ideas could be Lost, Fallout, The Last of Us, Schitt's Creek or the One Piece Netflix show.

Captain Hammer · September 29, 2025

The next time you want something akin to The Good Place try Schitt's Creek. For sci fi, I think you might like the 12 Monkeys tv series.

O
OverWims · September 29, 2025

I've been suggesting 12 monkeys in every post like this Juliette's done 🤣. Such a good series

Not a fan of either option personally but I don't know if TWO Apple TV series would be fair to those who don't have that service since you've already decided on Severance. So my vote goes to BSG as something people might be able to catch up on or watch along easier although I'm not sure where BSG is available.

J
Juliette | Gaming & Reaction · September 29, 2025

That's actually true... hmm. I've also read that BSG is hard to get a hold of! Maybe I need to think more.

J
James Jones · September 29, 2025

Have you seen Cobra Kai, yet?

J
Juliette | Gaming & Reaction · September 29, 2025

I haven't! I watched and reacted to the karate kid original movie so I could then watch Cobra Kai but I struggle to edit movies... so its been sitting there 😫

Superplin · September 29, 2025

You will love Ted Lasso, but if you want to continue the Whedon Oeuvre I'd say Dollhouse (maybe with a brief detour through Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog--only three episodes--and even the movie remake of Much Ado About Nothing, both also by Whedon and with some familiar faces). After TGP is done, Man On The Inside and Nobody Wants This will keep some of those good vibes going.

K
Kevin Karst · September 29, 2025

Dollhouse is extremely underrated. I'm sure Jules would love it. I've given up hope that any Buffy reactors will ever watch Dr. Horrible - it gets recommended all the time, but for some reason nobody ever watches it.

Alien Nation or Star Trek: The Next Generation ( you don't need to have seen the original series to understand the TNG

P
Paul Toompas · September 29, 2025

I second TNG.

Sherry Sink · September 29, 2025

Farscape! (For the sci-fi fans.)

J
Juliette | Gaming & Reaction · September 29, 2025

I did look into that one! It might be a little hard to find but I'll take a closer look!

J
Jon · September 29, 2025

Of the two I'd choose BSG, it has more variety and deeper themes. Even though it's too short to react to, I'd recommend watching BBC's Casanova, starring David Tennant, just for your own pleasure. It's written by Russell T Davies and is the role that secured Tennant's casting as The Doctor, so worth watching ❤️

The second season of A Man On The Inside starts in like 7 weeks, which might be right around when you finish season 1.

J
Juliette | Gaming & Reaction · September 29, 2025

Ooh yes that would be amazing!

If you like The Good Place, I think you'll like 'Community' as well.

Ashley Thomas · September 28, 2025

i still think you should finish your whedon shows with dollhouse, its the only one left.

J
Juliette | Gaming & Reaction · September 29, 2025

True!! It's been on my mind for a while!

A
Andy · September 28, 2025

Neither One

J
Juliette | Gaming & Reaction · September 29, 2025

What do you suggest?

j
jibbers42 · September 28, 2025

"I've also read some comments saying BSG is a little dark at times" BSG is a "little dark" 60% of the time, very dark 20% of the time, and neutral with even some levity 20% of the time, lol. It's a really good show and I'd love to see a reaction, but Ted Lasso is a better replacement for The Good Place.

J
Joe · September 28, 2025

These shows are both great and could not be more different. I reserve the right to switch my vote before polls close. Even though I do think BSG is the better show, I think you will enjoy Ted Lasso more and I think I will enjoy re-watching it more. Ted Lasso is like if a hug was made into a TV comedy. BSG is brilliant, yet bleak.

J
Joe · September 28, 2025

Also BSG is not currently available on any streaming service that I am aware of. I happen to own it, but might be challenging or expensive for others to watch along.

If you’re replacing the good place, Ted lasso will be great for you. I think you’ll really enjoy it! Battlestar might be a good replacement for Doctor who, assuming you don’t go down the classic series road next.

J
Juliette | Gaming & Reaction · September 29, 2025

That's what I was thinking, too! It might be a good idea to loosely tie in the shows once they get replaced so maybe people will be interested in the new one. Doing something new may bring in a new audience too which is cool ☺️

C
Claire Eyles · September 28, 2025

I went with Battlestar Galactica, because I'm a Scifi and horror nerd. But you should watch what will make you happy, and it sounds like the Ted Lasso one is something you might like (I haven't seen it myself). There's also Grimm, which was done by some of the same people who did Angel and wrote some of Buffy's episodes.

M
Michael Jones · September 28, 2025

Ted Lasso is such a good show, and much more of a replacement for that feel of the Good Place

S
Spikle · September 28, 2025

Ted Lasso is wholesome but also has a lot of swearing in it. BSG is dark but has as much swearing in it as the Good Place. I have watched all of both of these so I care not which you choose. Man on the Inside currently only has 8 episodes but a new season of another 8 episodes will arrive on Netflix on 20th Novemeber

M
Michael Jones · September 28, 2025

To be fair, Ted Lasso does indeed have A LOT of swearing in it, and adult humor… but it is somehow still one of the most wholesome shows I have ever seen. I just don’t know how they did it, but they did.

Veronica Mars (Buffy influences, references and Buffyverse alumni appear throughout)
