Dr Who 9x04 Before the Flood
And here we are with the conclusion to the previous episode! Might I say first up WOW WHAT AN INTRO 👀
I really loved the conclusion. It went differently to what I thought (other than one thing I predicted!) and it felt like a very risky adventure, which made it more exciting. Really enjoyed the Doctor in this one!

We've had many bootstrap paradoxes before. Some notable ones are: The Doctor's lines in Blink when speaking to Sally on the easter egg on the DVD. Everything the Doctor said, he read from the transcript. The transcript said what he said in the recording. The recording was made using the transcript. The Doctor didn't come up with what to say, he just read from the transcript. Larry didn't come up with the Doctor's lines either, he just wrote down what the Doctor said. So who came up with the Doctor's lines? The Doctor chose his name as it was the word for "healer" and "wise man". As River said in 'A Good Man Goes to War', "We get that word from you, you know". He chose it due to humans using it, and humans used it due to his constant visits to Earth. He was responsible for his own name's inspiration/origin. Melody Pond was named after Mels (Amy/Rory's friend) who turned out to be herself, Melody Pond, so Melody was named after Melody. As the Doctor said himself, "You named your daughter, after your daughter". So, who actually came up with the name? Amy asks the Teselecta to show River Song to Melody. Melody then sees herself and realises that she is River Song. So, she chooses that name. She chose that name because the Teselecta showed her River Song, but the Teselecta was only able to show her River Song because Melody chose the name. Who came up with the name?
If the bootstrap paradox had a face, j would punch it. I would punch the bootstrap paradox in the face
One of my favourite under-rated DW stories, I love the bootstrap paradox
Peter's monologues are awesome, it's just something about the way he delivers it, I'm sure Tennent or Smith etc could do great scenes if they did 'Listen' or this one but Peter just gives it something extra, and it's fantastic.
Agreed!! He has this amazing way with delivering his words!
that technique that 12 did at the start is called "breaking the fourth wall" and couldn't agree with you more Jules it makes the episode more immersive. Also Peter Capaldi does play Guitar he was also on stage at Glastonbury Music Festival this past summer
Is there anything he can't do? He is one talented man!! I really loved the fourth wall break. I've noticed he kinda does this a lot with looking into the camera. It is really effective!
Peter is a real life guitar hero! He was in a band back in the day pre becoming an actor and he's currently doing music in between acting now, he's not long released an album I believe. So all the playing in the show that is all him! Should look him up I'm sure you'll find out just how cool he is! He recently joined Franz Ferdinand on stage at Glastonbury festival to sing with them, definitely youtube that!
OMG I used to love that really popular Franz song back in the day.. Take me On? I'll check that out! If Peter did that song, I'd lose it HAHA
I think the fisher king was voiced by cory Taylor from the band slip knot
He did the Fisherking's growls/screams, and there's a video on the official Doctor Who youtube channel showing bits of the recording sessions as well as Corey fan boying over the Tardis's console ^^
didn't want to post this for the magician's apprentice as it spoils the fact that the guitar shows up again, but this is a nice little behind-the-scenes featurette with peter and jenna talking about the guitar (and peter practicing between takes). definitely my favorite addition to the tardis and fits his doctor so well! if only he had gotten to sing too....guess we've got his albums for that lol. glad you enjoyed! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31b5MewfofY
Thank you for sharing that with me!! What a lovely little inside peek and I love that Peter was so involved with picking the guitar, too! It seems he's had a lot of say with his Doctor. The outfit, guitar, sonic glasses... I'm surprised they do listen to the actors so much!
I love 12 playing the guitar and the rock version of the doctor who theme was done by Capaldi himself Also the Fisher King was a life size model that they used for filming, which for me makes his appearance even more scary
The guitar playing is great, isn it? Everything I can find points to Peter being the one who played the guitar for the rock version of the theme tune. I also really love all the 4th wall breaks. He's not the first Doctor to do it, but he does them a lot.
I'm glad you appreciated that intro, truly one of the great moments from the Twelth Doctor's era that fits into the timey wimeyness. It was interesting that you got that the Doctor's ghost was a hologram last time. Like with Time Heist last season it's fascinating when a guest character challenges Clara on how much being with the Doctor has changed her.
I love that this intro is so well liked 💜 It really was so special! Being with the Doctor definitely has changed Clara. Do you think she's the companion that has been influenced the most?
