First up, oh boy... I didn't expect this episode to be SO emotional. It completely broke me. I apologise for so many tears!

Secondly, it was brilliant. So wonderfully done, perhaps my favourite episode so far this series. Wow. Phenomenal! WOW!

"ok, so there's been a big change" sums up this ending wonderfully 😂😂

Not being able to remember a restaurant name where you went on a date is kind of understandable unless it’s a place you know well. In the end, Danny was deliberately repeating ‘I love you’ because he didn’t want Clara to do something drastic to ‘be with him’… - EDIT- Ah, I see you got it! :)

An amazing foreshadowing throughout this episode is the close ups of the tear running from the corner of his eye, a symbolic motif of the Cybermen dating back to the classic series, with a shot of his eye transitioning into the Cyberman shaped hole in the doors.

Not sure if you may have seen the next episode yet. not only is there a mid credit scene at the end but I'd say to pay attention to the opening credits as well.

The volcano scene is a bit divisive between certain Who fans, most people like it/are fine with it but the ones who don't like REALLY hate it lol I think it's mostly about it being too far/not realistic for something Clara may do. Personally I disagree, I think it's a great representation of her just snapping mentally and how life with the Dr has changed how she sees everything and she went full on dark mode. This also shows just how close and connected Clara and the Dr are, he's like yeah you betrayed me, but why did you think that would stop me helping you? Which is quite lovely when you consider that. Matt Smith never dealt with the Master so last time you saw him was at the end of the Tennant run! Also, when you think about this episode it really is incredibly dark too!

I agree with you. I loved the volcano scene. Sorry to those who don't like it, but I implore them to open their minds and understand that Clara is going through intense grief. Everyone reacts differently when they lose someone 🥺

So I noticed doctor who has been taken off Stan when I went to watch along with you this morning. Not a major concern for me, but do you still have access to episodes to react too? cause I'm not sure that they are legally on streaming services anywhere else at the moment in Aus, unless you want to buy the seasons online or have access to the DVD's.

They aren't on streaming services anywhere right now 🥺 I reckon Disney will pick it up, but I'll maybe buy the episodes on Youtube (which I think are the same) or try DVDs

Genuinely forgot how powerful Clara and The Doctor's scene is with the keys. Thank you for reminding me!! Cant wait for the next ep reaction!!

It was one of their best moments together, I think! Heartbreaking!

how great that we get a scottish doctor and a scottish master to play off of each other! peter could have chemistry with a brick wall, but was lucky enough to be cast alongside one heck of a fierce female cast. “do you think i care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference” ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Wait - is the Missy actress actually Scottish? Let me google! WAIT - she is! Honestly, I didn't realise. Her voice seems to change all the time haha.

I love the reveal of Missy's true Identity it's one my favorites and the the back and forth between Peter Capaldi and Michelle Gomez at the end is just brilliant! also very funny how blatantly obvious what was in the tanks and at no point the Doctor paid no attention to the windows on the elevator doors.

Great episode. So dark. The master reveal is superb. And there is that beautiful scene between the Doctor and Clara with one of my favourite lines from the show: 'Do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference.'

Does this episode have one of the greatest scenes (the volcano) and greatest lines ('do you think I care for you so little'), in all of Doctor Who? Yes, yes, yes it does. Moffat, Coleman and Capaldi are delivering it all so beautifully. (And it makes me cry too!!) Seb, Danny's interviewer, is played by Chris Addison. He appeared in The Thick of It as a civil servant who was an underling/dark apprentice to Capaldi's character. I was fortunate enough to see Chris perform standup here in Belfast 10 years ago and he's funny and warm. Well done for picking up on 'the army'! (And a few other insights that are key, but I can't tell you which ones just yet!) The public mostly picked up on the identity of Missy about three weeks before the reveal. I couldn't unsee it because Michelle Gomez is performing a lot in the way of the first actor in the role: swivelling and pivoting, tilting the head, moving the eyebrows, other little facial tics. If you've no intent to check out that (Third Doctor) era, do get a clip of Roger Delgado and run him and Gomez side by side.

Now that Missy has revealed who she really is, it all makes so much sense! She's a "master" at her character hehe

Aside from Eccleston's brief run, Eleven was the first Doctor not to face the Master since the character was introduced. I did wonder if you'd get it before this as a lot of fans strongly suspected who Missy was since her first scene, especially when she called the Doctor her boyfriend given how much fans love to see the Doctor and the Master as a sort of couple. You're in for a treat with Michelle Gomez's performance in the role, and she's easily my favourite version since the original in the early 70's. There are definitely some big moments in this, with the Doctor letting Clara do her stuff before revealing that even her betraying him doesn't matter, seeing the skeletons in the tanks, then the reveal they were Cybermen. The windows on the door looking like Cybermen eyes (complete with the ducts) was what the Doctor was missing with the shot of them when he was pondering that being good foreshadowing. It's interesting to hear your thoughts about Twelve and the character development he's starting to show as well as your theory about the influence of all those centuries on Trenzalore. I think he has a great character arc as you'll continue to see and hopefully appreciate.

Honestly, the 12th Doctor is SO intriguing. I adore how he comes across as often so harsh but I think he doesn't see it that way. He's VERY old as well. He's a different "person" to what he once was, when I first saw him as the 9th Doctor. All the things he's been through. It truly makes me so sad.

Juliette, can I just ask what's going on with your last few Doctor Who posts? The little pre-episode blurb/intro you write has been getting cut off halfway through and then repeated in full. It's only your Doctor Who posts this has been happening with, not the others for whatever reason. Very strange.

J
Juliette | Gaming & Reaction · August 6, 2025

I think it's because stupid Patreon has changed a few things! They now have a section where I write a blurb as a preview, but then below that is the full stuff. They seem to get it mixed up sometimes when the post goes live, and it's all doubled up!

Love this episode, it's a great master reveal FYI the next episode has a extra scene in the credits that sets up the Christmas special :)

It's one of my favourite "I cannot believe this happened" moments. The scene with the keys was just 10/10
