Doctor Who 8x8 Mummy on the Orient Express
I was pretty nervous to watch this one, given how the last episode ended. I really hoped it wouldn't just be glossed over - I'm a sucker for details and I wasn't ready to stop caring about their argument just yet! No spoilers - you'll just have to watch if you haven't already!
May I just say, The Doctor was on form with his sarcasm in this one. VERY dry, and it suits him!

Hi Juliette, I haven't watched this one yet but I plan to soon! Just wondering who it was that has switched over to YouTube because he couldn't stay as a Patreon member? I wanted to gift him a month a while back, but I didn't really understand the gifting process until recently. Because I'll need to send him a link to redeem the gift, I don't think I can unless I have an email address or some way of sending it to him 😊
I really love this episode. I always forget exactly where it's placed (mostly because I'm not a fan of Kill the Moon so I always forget about the argument) so I'm always excited when I see it's the next one up. I think the chat at the end between Clara and the Doctor is really the first time we truly get to see what's going on in this Doctor's mind. He does want to save as many people as possible, but he also knows it's not possible to save everyone and sometimes, someone has to die to be able to give enough clues and context to save the rest. I bet the 12th Doctor and Chidi could have ethics conversations for days! lol.
Are you my Mummy?
LOVED that he said that!
Hmm, this is one of the best of the season, but it depends on if you count the upcoming Christmas episode as part of the season. The upcoming Christmas episode is one of my top three Christmas episodes (the other two are "A Christmas Carol", and one at the end of a future season), and if I were to count it as part of the season (which the streamers like HBO Max and Amazon Prime seem to do), I would consider that episode to be the best of the season. But that's purely my opinion, every one to their own.
I really struggled with Capaldi and it wasn't until this episode that he became the Doctor for me. Unfortunately by this time I had started to go off Clara although I got to say Jenna Coleman looks fantastic in this story. Series eight is one of my least favourite of the series although I have reassessed it in recent years and have a bit more appreciation of it. There is also a nice call back in this where the Doctor mentions having been enticed to the Orient Express before even with a phone call to the Tardis. We saw this at the end of The Big Bang with Amy and Rory leaving in the Tardis on their wedding night.
I think Clara can be a polarizing character! Either people love her, or hate her. She's VERY stubborn and confident, but I also think she compliments the Doctor well. In fact, I think all of our companions have been rather confident so far 😅 I think my favourites have been Donna and Amy and Rory for sure 💜
This episode has be mentioned many times to be a good episode to show people who want to know what Doctor Who is all about…I personally don’t see it but I know many people agree!
Those things the Doctor offered are Jelly Babies. A sweet first manufactured in the 1880's in the UK. They are made of soft sugar jelly and are in the shape of plump babies. They were first called Unclaimed Babies, then they became Peace Babies around 1918 and then Jelly Babies in 1953. Tom Baker, the 4th Doctor carried a small paper bag of Jelly Babies and would sometimes offer one to those around him The 12th Doctor has obviously gone up in the world to have a proper Jelly Baby case. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jelly_Babies
their chemistry + relationship is dizzying. such an interesting dynamic! can’t wait for you to see more
The thing the doctor offered in the case to Professor Muirhouse was just a peice of candy called a jelly baby and is also a nod to the 4th Doctor as he would occasionally give them out
One of my favourite episodes! When the Doctor sees Clara talking to Danny, does he feel jealous, sad or envious? In my opinion, yes to all three. But he's also happy she has that love in her life. The Doctor and Clara's feelings are an undercurrent. The looks 12 and Clara give each other.....
This episode is seen as where Capaldi really comes into his own as the Doctor, as good as he already was before. It helps that when he's having that little conversation with himself he's imitating Tom Baker (who you saw as the curator in Day of the Doctor) and the bit of him offering someone jelly babies (which is what they were) is also very Fourth Doctor. Perkins is played by Frank Skinner, who is a big fan of the show, and it was tough for him to film the scene where he has to reject travelling in the TARDIS. There have been plenty of one-off characters who fans would have wanted to have seen as a proper companion and he's probably one of those.
One of my favourite episodes of series 8 and of the 12th doctor in general. This is the episode I would show someone if they were interested in seeing if the 12th doctor was interesting enough to them to watch his full run. Not sure if this is a spoiler or not but the next episode is written by the same person who wrote this episode and both of them are two of my favourite episodes from this series. So I hope you enjoy next weeks episode as well.
Love this episode, my favourite of the season. I was already falling for 12 but this was the episode where I was really like “woah this guy could be my Doctor” 💙
I love that he's so different from the other Doctors!!
I love this episode, my favourite of this season (next week's is my number 2 favourite), its a setting that works well for doctor who The mummy's design was really well made and i loved the 66 second lore, I also loved the ending because Clara is having a lot of issues with how this doctor handles things and she doesn't seem to trust him that much, but this ending with how the doctor explaining how he had only bad choices but he had to choose was really well done (my hats of to murry gold for the music) and it showed clara how difficult the doctor sometimes has it. The only thing I didn't like was how the mummy was defeated by ordering it to stand down and be relieved from its duty Also starting the episode by having Capaldi saying "start the clock" is just brilliant
Brilliant episode on of my favourites
It really was awesome!
