The Good Place 2x1 Everything is Great!

I love how this show turns everything upside down and takes us in a different direction than we think. After that epic season 1 finale, I thought they were going to re-do everything for the entirety of season two. But here we are in episode 1 and Eleanor's already figured everything out and now they're being rebooted again. You just never know where the showrunners will take things next, and that's all part of the fun. (Even if Michael's still an evil demon, lol.)

I think even although Michael is a demon, there's still something kind of adorable about him. He seems to be out of his depth and is putting up a front to try and keep everyone in line, but you can see he's a little uncomfortable with it. He just wants his project to succeed. Going into to season 2, I assumed it was going to be like season 1 but we are in on the twist this time. I was shocked when they figured out it was the bad place and got a reset at the end. The last episode turned the show on its head, and this episode just kept it there 😂

I am LIVING for these Good Place reactions hahaha!! It's one of my all-time favorite shows and your reactions are AMAZING!! I felt the same way as you did the first time I saw it about Michael!! So betrayed hahaha!! Ted Danson is just the best, it's impossible not to love him! (Even the demon version lolol)

Of course, I thought the first season was absolutely brilliant and ground-breaking, but this episode was where I realized that the writers were not even going to pretend to follow the "accepted wisdom" of how a 30-minute sitcom should be written. In practically any other "typical" sitcom, the plot from the first two episodes of season two would have been stretched over a dozen episodes or more - perhaps even the entire season. But not here! The writers are fearless, and it's clear they have complete confidence that the audience can keep up. I believe that trust in the viewer is what sets The Good Place apart from most other TV shows. If I think of The Good Place as an epic roller coaster, season one is the ride up the first hill. Lots of clanking as you slowly rise into the air, anticipation building as each jostle moves you closer toward the peak. What's on the other side? Who knows! The season one finale is where you reach the top, crest the hill and start to accelerate down the back side... As season two begins, you find yourself zooming down the rails, not knowing what comes next! The rest of the show is an amazing ride of course... so throw your arms in the air and feel the wind rush past! Here we goooooo! :D

Not to be crude, but I need to know if Australia has butthole-spiders before I visit.

I'm not sure the guys running the Bad Place are necessarily bad themselves. They're just doing a job. Ok maybe they do enjoy it, but it's for a reason - to punish bad people.

Excited for season 2. The next episode is actually one of my favorites. Can't wait for you to see it. And you are right, this show is not going to go down the easy or obvious path. That is an interesting point you made about Michael. I had always thought his insistence on this form of torture was just about him being right, but maybe there is a part of him that thinks the old ways are wrong. Or, maybe it is just you trying to cling on to your good version of Michael.
