TV Series Recommendations!
I'm going to make a post on the YouTube community page as well, but I wanted to ask you all first.... Now that Buffy is coming to an end, I'm looking for something new to react to.
💜Here is the SHORT version as I talk FAR too much..... TL;DR
With Buffy ending soon, I'm looking for a new TV series to react to! I originally considered switching to movies (and may still do a few), but I love getting to know recurring characters—so TV might be more my thing. I'm open to suggestions, ideally shows that aren’t too long (short seasons or only a few seasons). Sci-fi, comedy, drama—I'm open to all genres! So far, I’m considering Twin Peaks, Dollhouse, Red Dwarf, and Fawlty Towers. Let me know your recommendations! 😊 In the meantime, I might post extra Angel or Doctor Who reactions until I decide on a new show!
💜 Here is the FULL version of my ramblings for those that want a lil extra!
I'll be honest - I did think I was going to start movie reactions instead (and I still might pop in some movies... nothing is ever set in stone!) but I have watched now the first 3 Scream movies (the third one, I haven't edited yet but maybe I'll have time after Buffy) and also Rush Hour. Whilst I enjoyed the movies, I think what I really like is recurring characters to get to know and love... Which is why I think I enjoyed Scream so much as it was the same characters.
Having familiar characters really gets me invested in the show and series and maybe I'm more of a TV series person? I don't know... Some of you might remember me saying I've not seen many TV shows or movies as I tend to spend my free time gaming, so there's lots I haven't seen.
I have a few streaming services but am also open to buying DVDs. I have a DVD drive somewhere, though I will admit I hate using it as it's slow and often the DVD versions tend to be so different and can be tricky to make the full reactions work.
SO.... I'm looking for TV Series recommendations! (geez I talk so much)
The ones I've considered are Twin Peaks, Dollhouse, Red Dwarf, Fawlty Towers.
I would prefer if they aren't TOO LONG. I'd love something just a few seasons, or short seasons (Doctor Who has quite short seasons which is great). I don't mind if it's scifi, comedy, drama... whatever! I will have a check of anything recommended to me to see if it's something that is suitable and also gets enough interest when it comes to viewers on YouTube.
I'd like to start in the next couple of weeks and in the meantime maybe I could upload an additional Angel OR Doctor Who per week until we get started with something new (please don't expect more than one episode a week of a show in a long term capacity, it's just in the interim if I have nothing else on the go!)
THANK YOU 😸😸

Just as a thought, not many have reacted to Sapphire And Steel. David McCallum and Joanna Lumley. Ghostly time detectives. Six stories in all.
I back this outside horse. Probably best enjoyed as the 34 episodes of 30 mins each which make up the six stories. Or not, because its truly mesmerising.
Red dwarf is great, highly recommended.
Idk if you'd be open to shows such as Supernatural. Or maybe the show Dexter (which has a origninal series, sequel, prequel, aswell as a new one coming this july which is a continuation of the sequel). Another great show is Merlin. Just a few suggestions. :D
Hi Jules! I watched all your Buffy and Angel content so far - it a wild ride! Looking forward to more Angel season 5. I wondered if you would consider watching "Haunting of Hill House" TV mini-series by Mike Flanigan. You might be reluctant to watch it because it's considered "horror", but it's really unlike your typical horror story. Without spoilers, I can only tell you that it doesn't rely on jump scares AT ALL. In it's heart it's actually a family drama series, filled with amazing characters and actors. I've seen dozens if not hundreds of TV show, and it's very rare for me to start watching a series and find myself so immersed, that I can name EVERY character after one or two episodes. And it will probably make you cry more than once, hell, it made me, a 38 yo man cry. But in the end it is very much worth a watch, and you will not regret it, I promise.
I think you might like Warehouse 13! Jane Espenson (one of the head writers for Buffy) co-created the show and it's really fun!
Battlestar Galactica is another great show as well! (Espenson also wrote on that show lol. In a male dominated field, she's my hero for being such a badass writer)
With your love for Doctor Who I think (if you haven't seen it already) you would probably really enjoy watching Casanova, the TV miniseries starring David Tennant and written by Russell T Davies. Only three hours long and has huge early nuWho energy, and is genuinely just an amazing production on just about every level.
Red Dwarf pleeeeasse. I need to rewatch it for the 50th time, I really hope you pick that one, I need some laughs.
There are shows I think I might like which have been mentioned here, but I don't want to ask for a show that it turns out I might not like. So, I would need to recommend a show that I really liked and would like to watch again. But I don't rewatch many shows (other than Dr. Who, which I rewatch all the time). One show I think is rewatchable which I really like is "The West Wing", especially seasons 1-4. But I don't think that is the type of show you are interested in. But then someone in this thread mentioned Chuck. That is a show I really liked which I haven't rewatched recently, but would love to again. It's 5 seasons long, but seasons 1 and 5 were half seasons (13 episodes), so it is 91 episodes in total, which I think fits your criteria. It's a sci-fi / action / conspiracy series with good comedic elements, great actors, loveable characters, etc. Note that Adam Baldwin, who played Jayne Cobb in Firefly is also a main character in Chuck. In fact, his character in Chuck, John Casey, sometimes makes reference to lines from Jayne Cobb. :) In fact, just typing this has made me want to binge watch Chuck again. Don't make me do that! :) I'd much rather watch you review it at a much slower pace.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
If you haven't seen it yet, Derry Girls is short, has plenty of recurring characters, and is a fantastic blend of funny/ heartwarming.
A show that got the Firefly treatment (much too early cancelation) from the network airing it is 'Limitless'. It was a spin-off of a movie of the same name (perhaps watch the movie first, although the TV show has a different vibe and is much more humorous). One season 22 episodes. It is the story of Brian Finch, a twenty-something slacker who takes a new experimental, designer drug, NZT, that allows him to use his entire brain power. Others taking the drug have debilitating and sometimes fatal side-effects, but Brian finds a way around the bad effects. He is co-opted by the FBI to help solve crimes and to learn more about the potential of NZT. The network apparently thought that the drug references were too blatant, causing the cancelation.
My favorite TV series of all time is NBC's Hannibal. It's three seasons, 39 episodes. It's absolutely gorgeous and harrowing at the same time, I hope you'll consider it
I can't speak for the US version but the original British Being Human runs for 5 short seasons and features a vampire, a ghost and a werewolf sharing a house together. It has some of the same writers and creatives as the Who too (although they are very different shows).
Firefly. The answer to this question is always Firefly. It's from Josh Whedon, who made Buffy. It's short—13 episodes + 1 film—and it's pure genius from start to finish.
Firefly was the first Whedon show Jules reacted to. Awesome show.
HI, I would recommend Dollhouse or Chuck, Chuck is 5 seasons, I have watched it about half dozens times over the years. came out in 2007
I recommend FROM. it's currently 3 seasons and I think 10 episodes per season so not too long Also season 4 coming out next year. It's a mystery, horror. It's honestly so good.
The Good Place & Veronica Mars - both 4 seasons!
I would second the Good Place. Absolutely fantastic show.
I think you'd LOVE Red Dwarf! Or The A Team!
i still suggest quantum leap you will love it maybe even xena too to fill the buffy void
Dollhouse would be interesting. The first season of Wednesday (8 episodes) also has the elements Buffy had. (combination of drama, humour, romance, light horror, some action...) The White Lotus is a recent series that was well received and it has a holiday feeling mixed with dark humour and some twisted storylines. If you would want something totally different: Chernobyl (5 episode mini-series) received a lot of praise but the story is obviously very heavy.
Red Dwarf is brilliant, a comedy sci fi show and from the UK too. Twin Peaks was not so enjoyable for me, I think it is too weird and hard to follow for a simple person like me Fawlty Towers is only 12 episodes so will be a quick watch. It is good comedy, but some of it is very 'of it's time' and might ruffle a few feathers. One episode uses the N word so you might want to bleep that out I remember enjoying Doll House but cannot remember much of it now so it did not leave a lasting impression. My recommendation would be Fringe. When it came out, it was likened to a sci fi fans Lost. It has monster of the week type episodes along with an ongoing mystery throughout. The reasons for the monsters however are scientific rather than supernatural. Hence the title, the fringe of science. It is 100 episodes, so 44 episodes less than Buffy. And it even has Leonard Nimoy (the original Spock) acting in it (a few times) RIP Leonard
honestly i love shows like dead boy dectives and lockwood and co ! and it would be a different style but delicious in dungeon is honestly a very heartwarming show ! im mostly here for the doctor who content but i do love buffy so very much since i was a teenagaer <3 over the garden wall is also an amazing show, very short as well as steven universe ! and it might be an odd recommendation but yellowjackets is great along with interview with the vampire (the amc+ tv show!)
How I Met Your Mother is an awesome show. Mostly comedy but there are also sad moments
Hey Juliette, not been a Patron for a bit. But I know you remember me. :D I came back to catch up after watching you on YouTube and now you're looking for a new show? Well let me make some recommendations. One that will be hard to find I bet, but I know was available in Australia (MaryCherry has seen it) is Popular. It was on the WB at the same time as Buffy and Angel and was a predecessor to Glee. I'm also a huge Red Dwarf fan. I've read all the books and seen every series multiple times. So that'd be my vote too. And finally, something just for you. Tru Calling if you can get your hands on it. Eliza Duskhu turned down a spinoff of Buffy to do this show and it's a short run but it's amazing. Eliza as the main character in anything for me is a win.
I loved Popular back in the day, and I also recommended Tru Calling. I have the DVD's and still watch them regularly, twenty years later.
I just started watching Severance, and omg what a great sci-fi show, if you enjoy doctor who, I think you'll enjoy Severance too, granted it's a bit more mature overall, and there are currently 2 seasons
Shows you will probably love : - Supernatural - Fringe - Person of Interest - Stargate SG1 (Watch the 1994 movie first and then the show).
- Pushing Daisies is a super fun, quirky little fantasy/comedy show, only two seasons. It's niche enough that you might not get as many views, but it's super short and super fun! - Fleabag is awesome too, a little more mainstream, and super short - Star Trek: The Next Generation is too long to be what you're looking for, but it follows a cast of characters who are very lovable - If you like musicals, Schmigadoon! is a blast (at least, season one—somehow, I haven't seen season two yet) - Torchwood, IMO, gets off to a rough start, but it leads to season 3, which is one of my favorite pieces of sci-fi television - Good Omens! Two short seasons, and one more episode coming to wrap it up. - Takin' Over the Asylum, my other niche recommendation, is a Scottish miniseries that takes place in a mental institution and follows a great cast of characters, including a young David Tennant Hope that helps!
Seconding "Pushing Daisies"! Sadly it's been cancelled far too soon, but it tries a wrap-up in the Last Episode.
Would loveeee Supernatural
I forgot to include Black Books in my last comment, which were all British shows (& therefore shorter seasons). I also want to suggest a few more American shows that I haven't seen mentioned yet: 3rd Rock from the Sun, if you haven't already seen it. It has clever premise with wonderfully silly/entertaining results. Longer comedy series that are worth seeing if you haven't already watched them include: Friends Fraiser
Red Dwarf and Fawlty Towers are both great. Also Blackadder (first season has different vibe, each season has different setting), IT Crowd and Father Ted
Also, although it’s a movie, I have to recommend Cabin In The Woods, written by Joss Whedon (and featuring Amy Acker)
OK, this isn't what you want to hear, but here it is. Go for Supernatural, I think you'll love it. It's the opposite of what you wanted in size (15 seasons, 22 eps each, give or take), but in terms of characters you can bond with, it's up there with Buffy, IMO. I would say stagger it tho. Maybe do season 1 & 2, move away for something else and come back for 3 & 4 and so on.
Definitely stagger them. I remember watching this as the seasons came out, but I stopped around S12. I re-watched it with my Dad and made the mistake of watching a few episodes a night continuously. We only got up to S8 I think before I was bored with them. It was way too much 😂
The Last Of Us, Stranger Things, The Walking Dead, The Boys and Fallout are all great shows and are my personal recommendations. Some are longer than others The Walking Dead especially with 11 seasons and multiple spinoffs but all definitely worth a watch. 😁
Out of the show you mentioned, the ones I'm familiar with are Fawlty Towers and Red Dwarf. The first of those will be over very quickly at just 12 episodes, the latter has far more seasons but they're the usual British sitcom length of 6 episodes with a couple at 8. That should give you a decent amount to get your teeth into without dragging on for years. Another idea is to do the Doctor Who spinoffs, since I know you've been wanting to do them for a while but don't want to take so much time (and it would probably be a couple of years) out of the main show. The upcoming open slot is a good opportunity to do so if that's not something that you'd see as basically doing Doctor Who twice. They're pretty much entirely standalone from Doctor Who itself when it comes to plots and characters if that helps.
Not sure if you're into Anime, but Arcane, especially Season 1, is a masterpiece. You don't even have to know League of Legends. I didn't. Then the anime of Cowboy Bebop. Never the live action version. Squid Game, Warehouse 13, Torchwood, the reboot of Battlestar Galactica, Farscape and Blake's 7. Anything you do though, I'll be there. Love Twin Peaks. It lost a little for me over the years with some of the subplots, but Kyle MacLachlan as Agent Cooper is worth the watch. I liked Season 1 of The Hot Zone but SSN 2 dwelling in the aftermath of 9-11, wasn't as good.
How did I forget Peaky Blinders?? Definitely doesn't get as much love as it should within the reactor-verse.
Breaking Bad is a must-watch, if you haven‘t seen it yet. I also recommend Peaky Blinders, Sherlock, Avatar The Last Airbender, Wednesday, and of course Dollhouse, since you love Whedon shows and it‘s very underrated, in my opinion.
It's funny because I'm more of a movie person myself. Most of the reaction channels I follow are strictly movies (other than Buffy reactions I follow). One show I think you will absolutely love is Tru Calling. It stars Eliza Dushku (Faith) and is only two seasons. I already recommended it on another post of yours.
Yeah. It’s only 2 seasons because it was horribly cancelled, yes it’s a great show but it’s gut wrenching to not have closure imo it’s no good to watch it…
obviously im pushing for dollhouse to round out your whedon adventures. but other than that have you watched true detective? each season is i think 10 episodes but each season is a different cast with a different story with some little easter egg tie ins. i didn't like season 2 but the other three were so so good and the cast is always full of really big stars.
Two shows that have not been recommended by anyone else, so far: The short one - The Dresden Files, based on series of novels about a private detective/wizard. 12 one hour episodes. Supernatural and humorous. Werewolves, vampires, demons, etc. The long one - Grimm, created by several Buffy/Angel writers and producers. 123 episodes over 5 1/2 seasons. However, given your reaction to Jasmine's 'true' face, this show may be too gruesome for you. A lot of scary monsters. Good seasonal story arcs like Buffy and Angel and an overall story arc that lasts for the entire run of the show.
Oh yeah, Grimm is awesome
I will always advocate for the original Roswell, the characters are very compelling and its similar to Buffy in a lot of ways. Only has 3 seasons as well.
Fallout is so good, you have to watch it 💕 also would highly recommend Lost, and The Queen's Gambit. Oh and anything by Mike Flanigan is AMAZING! Came back to add the live action One Piece lol
I definitely recommend Teen Wolf the series (2011). It's such an awesome show with 6 seasons available on Stan. Seasons 1, 2 & 4 have 12 episodes, S3 has 24, then S5 & 6 have 20. Just be warned, if you struggled with Jasmine's true face in Angel, then a few of the supernatural/gory parts of TW might make you look away as well. That aside, it's a brilliant show, and I absolutely love it. It's one of my faves (coming from someone who can't watch scary shows, so it isn't too bad in my personal opinion). Otherwise, if you want something less gory but still awesome, I'd recommend Smallville, however that does have 10 (amazing) seasons 😊💓
I know you said shorter seasons but honestly my go to would definitely be the X files!
She was doing X-files for awhile. But I would like her to see more.
I really loved watching “the Devils hour” recently
If you want movies with recurring Characters, there is always the MCU to consider (if you haven't watched it yet).
Alien Nation, The Office (might be to long though) Brooklyn 99...I don't watch much TV anymore
Alien Nation, i don't hear that show praised often enough. 22 episodes and ? 3-4 telemovies?
I'd love to see Torchwood. It has a bigish cast like Buffy. Is scifi with some drama and fun. Amazing actors and the overall show isn't too long❤️
Dollhouse is a great Whedon show. Can I also suggest Farscape? For me, it's the best scifi show ever. And it's half Australian!:-) The writing is great, and you can tell it was highly influenced by Buffy at the time.
Hmm 🧐 Stargate-sg1 you really have awesome little group to grow fond of, but it’s an insanely long series. Fun though! IT Crowd is a short madly funny series that only runs 4 seasons of about 6 eps each. The Good Place as mentioned is an amazing series, it makes you laugh and cry and go “huh?” I hate to say it but The Dollhouse is kind of a bummer…it was just a bit of a downer is all.
Sherlock, it's only a few episodes each series, and only 4 series.
Be warned though: each episode is a 1.5 hour long TV movie.
Red Dwarf is a great shout, a British iconic show! Just keep in mind though the episodes were made over the space of many years so the look of it changed drastically! But happy to guide you through it if you go with it! ‘Blackadder’ is one you could also watch short term, only four seasons of six episodes, and is an iconic British comedy.
Not sure if you've watched Avatar The Last Airbender yet, but it's an amazing animated series with a follow-up series that is arguably just as good if not better (in my opinion). Honestly one of the best shows ever, with so much more depth and emotion than any animated series has the right to have. If you want something darker and edgier, True Blood is a wild horror/romance/fantasy ride. Lots of blood, sex, and drama.
oooo true blood is good!
Really just supporting what other people have already posted. The Good Place is a quick one due to its short format episodes and only being 4 shorter seasons but it's a fantastic show. Fringe is one of my all time favorites, it's a little like the X-files in that's it's the "fringe division" of the FBI, but that's really where the comparison ends. Schitts creek is a funny one, shorter episodes like the good place. Then Breaking Bad many have mentioned, that's a really interesting show. Very different to what you've reacted to so far but I think you'd really enjoy it.
fringe is so good
Stargate SG-1 or Gene Rodenberry's Andromeda
The Good Place is my recommendation. Excellent show. Just four seasons and 13 episodes per season.
Would love Dollhouse or Galactica. “From” would be amazing (supernatural mystery box - think Lost plus a creepy Doctor Who episode). Daredevil or Jessica Jones, or maybe Jericho if it’s streaming somewhere. For comedy, I think you’d be brilliant with Ted Lasso (and a personal plug for Psych)
Dollhouse for sure. I agree with others with sherlock and the good place.
Agents of Shield, Fringe, & Sherlock and for a shorter mini-series The Queen's Gambit, 7 episodes but so so good.
Lots of great suggestions but I felt this deserved a re-think based on 'short seasons, or only a few seasons'... Sherlock (2010-2017) Trad crime character in modern London, written by Moffat and Gattis with Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. 3x 90 minute episodes a series, 4 serieses. Quite funny and clever. Life on Mars (2006-07) Police drama with some weird edges as a contemporary forensics officer is forced to work with a partner who possesses all the backwards attitudes ofpolicing in 1970s Britain. Dramatic, charismatic and a lot funnier than it sounds. 60 minute episodes, 8 in each of two series.
Several of the TV shows already suggested are brilliant. I would also love to suggest Fleabag, Coupling (UK version) Jonathan Creek (although not so keen on the later episodes, but Anthony Stuart Head is in the pilot), Sherlock, Green Wing. I also seconded Happy Valley in another post (one of the best written dramas from the UK).
Ooh fleabag, yes! I didn't mention it in my comment but second it here.
Twin Peaks and Red Dwarf sound great! I'm honestly not that worried about what you choose because most of the shows being recommended are excellent choices. I would like to throw in Fleabag (for a shorter show) and Twilight Zone (medium sized) as well.
Oh wow, I would do backflips if you reacted to Twin peaks!! It is… an experience! So, that’s my selfish vote!
Dollhouse would be great. I'll also mention Lost, Severance, Arcane, Battlestar Galactica, and Fringe. Oh and Hannibal. More people need to watch Hannibal.
I really can’t recommend LOST enough, it’s a great character study about how these mismatch group of people evolve and grow together and ultimately change each other lives. There will be characters you find yourself rooting for, connecting with and eager to unravel the mystery about them and their environment.
Stargate SG-1, TVD, Dexter, any of the Star Trek shows, House MD, Breaking Bad, The Blacklist. Really I could go on with a massive list but this is my shortlist of great shows to react to
I'd be onboard for Red Dwarf reactions. I would also suggest Lucifer if you haven't seen it. Six seasons although they all vary in length although overall is 96 episodes so just a bit less than Angel.
I always like to pitch The Good Place, a comedy/fantasy show about the afterlife. It's only 4 short season (13 episodes each). It's funny, thoughtful, touching and one of my all time favorite series. It tells a complete story, and it's full of so many twists and turns, it's fun to talk about and think about. Also, it's a great time to watch a show that asks the question - what does it mean to be a good person? Or if you want something really short, here are a couple of my favorite one-season shows: Wonderfalls (13 episode show about a girl who lives at Niagra Falls and who has objects start talking to her) and Mrs. Davis (8 episodes - A brilliant little puzzle-box of a show featuring a nun who has been tasked with defeating a world-controlling AI named Mrs. Davis).
The Good Place is reactor gold, fantastic to watch and experience over and over again. DON'T LOOK UP ANYTHING ABOUT IT. Juliette -- seeing how you put your heart into the emotional bits of BTVS, you'd be especially good with this one. You know what? If you don't want to react to it, please just go watch it for yourself, you'd love it.
Three body problem :D
Red Dwarf is an excellent shout. It is SUCH a fun show!
Chernobyl is one of the best pieces of television I've seen in years. It's rather emotional and heavy. Particularly as it's a historical drama. But it's only 5 episodes long. There is still Torchwood which the longest season is 13 episodes, depends on if you wanted a break from anything Dr Who related. I would personally love to watch you react to Once Upon a Time but that is the classic 22 episodes a season and a longer commitment, so maybe not just now (🤞) from what you've said your looking for. This last suggestion is completely random and it's a British comedy called The Inbetweeners. It's has several short seasons and 2 movies, I can see you getting attached to the characters. Thank you for your hard work, hope you have a good weekend.
Breaking Bad is fantastic if you haven't seen it!
Torchwood is pretty decent as it follows Captain Jack in the Doctor Who Universe, a bit more of an adult show compared to Doctor Who. On the other hand you also have The Sarah Jane Adventures which is a kids show. Line of Duty is one of my all time favourite shows, I'm not sure how much you'd like it though. I'd also love to suggest Happy Valley and Merlin!
I'd second Happy Valley!
Capsule reviews: Twin Peaks: Se1-2 classic, Se3 contentious tho some say genius Dollhouse: slow to warm up, but def gets to that feel of Mutant Enemy you've been used to Red Dwarf: I adore Se1-2, I think you'll like most of em. Fawlty Towers: Classic stuff. I dare you... Press Gang: 43x25 minute episodes. 1989-1993. Written by Steven Moffat, your current darling writer on Doctor Who. Kids TV for adults. Launched big name careers. Won a BAFTA and all on YouTube too! (And I've only seen one other reactor try it getting as far as ep. 6. Its a quiet gem) UPDATE EDIT: It is flipping hilarious AND profound Short and classic Garrth Mahrengi's Darkplace: one of those modern 6 episodes Brit comedies. Very very funny. (Tho covered by other reactors) And I can't recall if you're from NZ or Aus although you might be aware of Farscape? Its perhaps the best TV to come out of Aus. If you've not seen it, add to the list. Its a solid SF show which uses humour in a way the genre hasn't done before or since. Lots of feelgood stuff. Only 90 episodes. Oops. I'll maybe stick to expanding on others suggestions.
Red Dwarf!!!!!! (Or Torchwood lol).
The best recommendation after Buffy and Angel would be Supernarural! If you're looking for something wholesome and short, i would recommend Ted Lasso! Only 3 short seasons and such a great feel-good show❤️
Twin Peaks, Dollhouse, Lost, Bates Motel, Halt and Catch Fire, The Americans, Deadwood, John from Cincinnati. Or Doctor Horrible (can't get a shorter season or show than that!). I am not an Agents of Shield fan. Not sure why. I watched a season and expected that, since I worship Buffy and like all other things Whedon, I'd like it, but I gave up early in season two. That it is not Joss, first, but his brother, I think is the difference, or it was for me.
Deadwood feels a bold choice for Juliette. I don't know. I do know its very fine prestige television but there's real gore and gross in it. Gods I miss that show.
Red Dwarf is my favorite British sci-fi comedy. Can't go wrong with almost anything anime - Sakura Wars (based on video games, drama and has steam punk elements), Burst Angel, Haibane Renmei, Serial Experiment Lain, Basilisk and Black Cat (not sure if it's the length you want) are some of what I like.
I highly recommend 12 Monkeys. James Cole is from an apocalyptic 2043 and is sent back in time to stop a virus from being released. He is sent back to kill 1 man before he releases the virus. He assumes that by killing him, the future will be changed into a better place/timeline. He soon realises that it is nowhere near as simple as that. Doctor Who, in my opinion, isn't a time travel show. It's a show that just has time travel in it. 12 Monkeys, on the other hand, is a time travel show. Paradoxes, alternate timelines, past and future versions of the same people. 12 Monkeys is the pinnacle of time travel shows and it does not get the appreciation or recognition it truly deserves. It also, unlike Doctor Who, doesn't break its own rules. Doctor who has tons of writers, tons of showrunners etc, you'll always get situations where something happens but then so many series later something completely different happens from the same cause. As an example, in Series 1, when Rose changes history when saving her father, the reapers come out. This doesn't happen when River changes history by not killing the Doctor in Utah. If you do watch 12 Monkeys, I would also recommend watching the entire run for a second time (on your own for the second time of course) as it is one of those shows where you see everything from a completely different light once you know how the full story goes. One-off lines that you think nothing of which turn out to be pivotal plot points later on etc. It's only 4 seasons (47 episodes) and is definitely worth the watch. There is some slight swearing (s word not f word) in it but anyone watching the full reactions would be hearing it on their side and for the edited version you can just bleep it/edit it out. I also highly recommend Person of Interest. I will try to keep spoilers at a minimum but will have to say something for you to understand the premise. After 9/11, the American government wanted a machine that could track everyone. Track everything they did. The machine would then use this information to stop terrorist attacks before they happened (by reading emails, listening to phone calls, using street cameras etc). The machine was also capable of seeing planned murders and other crimes. Victims of these crimes were separated into relevant and irrelevant. The government only cared about relevant crimes (relevant to national security). So all the irrelevant crimes weren't intervened with. The man who created it wasn't happy about these people who could be helped being left to die so he built himself a secret backdoor into the machine that the government couldn't track and uses it (with help from other people) to secretly help the irrelevant victims. The main problem is to keep the government from finding out, he is only given a social security number. He has no idea if the person he has been instructed to follow is a victim or a perpetrator. He has no clue if the crime will happen in the next 5 months or the next 5 minutes. All he gets is a number. A sort of "take a look over here" kinda deal. Very good show. 5 seasons (103 episodes) total.
Have you seen Black Sails? Its pretty short and probably the best pirate thing ever. Should have great reactability.
Veronica Mars is great
Charmed, Veronica Mars, Orphan Black, Agents of SHIELD
Charmed: seems like discount Buffy. Agents of Shield: took a long long time to warm up Veronica Mars, which I've never seen, seems to have been enjoyed by a huge amount of the Mutant Enemy fandom back when it aired and had a lot of longevity. Probably on safe ground. Orphan Black: yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes this is one of the best suggestions. Orphan Black fucking rocks. And its so up your street. If you've not already, put it high on your list. (with Press Gang of course)
Always up for Dollhouse, especially to finish the Whedonverse (though you could still also do Agents of Shield). Lost and Breaking Bad are great choices as well. One I don't see a lot and is nice and short is Pushing Daisies.
The Good Place is a lot of fun
Seconded. It IS fun as well as funny and goes far beyond with being thought-provoking, off-the-reals imaginative and feeling you've learned something. Its a show that really values its audience.
peaky blinders - best series of all time
I’d love double doctor who!! Or maybe even some classic who
ghosts (bbc) is very good! there's also an american version of it but the bbc one is way better in my opinion. it's a comedy.
Orphan Black, Netflix 2015 Daredevil. Dollhouse is fire too.
red dwarf and fawlty towers are sooo good but it's good to note that a lot of it has aged badly :(
Prison Break, Lost, Breaking Bad. Or if you are interested in watching more in the whoniverse, I'd recommend Sarah Jane Adventures.
Seconded with SJA. Guaranteed lighter in tone in a good way and maybe a familiar face or two.
I always like recommending Monk (2002-2009). It's like 12-16 episodes a season or so
Monk is good!
Red dwarf is brilliant
