Buffy 7x18 Dirty Girls
WOW, I recognised someone 🥹 I don't know many actors/tv shows/movies, so this is a nice occasion for me!
Other than that, I don't know what else I can say about this episode that I haven't said in the outro. I went on for.... quite a bit. I never know if people watch the outros or enjoy them really, but I figure there might be some people out there that do, and it really helps me get my thoughts and feelings out. So it's there for those that want it!

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but I notice lots of mentions of foreshadowing about Xander and eyes Here is the one I know of In Tabula Rasa, the one after the musical episode when everyone loses their memory, Xander says "It's all fun and games 'til somebody loses an eye"
Nobody ever recognizes Rachel Bilson in Xander's dream. It makes me a little sad. lol I watched Buffy from childhood into adolescence, and then several months after Buffy went off the air, The OC premiered. That show then became a new obsession of mine for the four years I was in high school. Ahhh, Caleb has arrived. He's probably the only villain in the Buffyverse that gives Warren a run for his money. He's just as despicable. Nathan Fillion does a fantastic job of playing him.
Awww I've not seen her in anything! I do recognise her name from back in the day, but I've never seen The OC 🥹 It's SO surprising to see Nathan, even more so that he's a bad dude! I thought he'd be immediately dead hahaha
Yeah, this episode hits hard at the end. Poor Xander. But hey, Faith is back! And accordingly to Andrew she has been fighting Vulcans!:-) I was also like - hey that's Nathan Fillion - and then - oh no Nathan is bad...
I've not seen Nathan play a villain before, so I'm down for it BUT also I don't want it to ruin my thoughts about him HAHA
i always watch the outros. yeah firefly ended partway through season 7 of buffy/4 of angel so you see a few of the actors pop up probably to give them work. its funny how different the preacher is from mal. i love mal and i hate the preacher so much. whedon likes to use a lot of the same people. so you'll see the same actors in a lot of his things. there are firefly actors in buffy, angel, and dollhouse. there are actors from eh shows that show up in cabin in the woods and that much ado about nothing adaptation he made.
OOOH that is cool! See, I never know the year anything was released so it often does make me wonder if this was the first time Nathan and Joss worked together, or maybe this was after Firefly. That's awesome! I love Mal too, so this preacher dude is not very welcome to be here at all 🤣
Believe it or not, this was my first experience of Nathan Fillion and I've never quite shaken that from my image of him. This was probably one of the darkest Buffy episodes, if not from a story perspective, then certainly from the themes. Caleb was essentially the narrator of this episode and for him it was a happy ending. He is the ultimate Buffy villain: a man that hates women, especially strong women. He's maybe even a worse villain than The First in that respect. Making him a priest was perhaps a little on the nose but Joss Whedon has never been known for subtlety. That call back to Xander being "the one that sees everything" from Potential was almost cruel in its payoff.
I 100% believe that--- it was a dark way (for some of us!) to get introduced to a beloved character actor...
"Am I the good slayer now?" May be my favorite Faith line
Another upvote for outros!
Woohoo!! Thank you, Jonathan! I'll never stop them 🤣 I love chatting too much!
When Shannon calls Caleb 'Father' and he replies - 'Just Caleb. Never nobody's daddy.' Was that a call back to Shepherd Book in the first episode of Firefly when everybody called him grandpa and he said 'Never been married.' ????? There is a DVD commentary for this episode with the writer - Drew Goddard and Nick Brendon (Xander). It was OK but they got kind of silly riffing off of the more salacious aspects of the story (especially Xander's dream sequence at the beginning). Nick Brendon said that earlier in the season Marti Noxon, exec-producer approached him about the possibility of Xander being killed by Caleb and his coming back as an incarnation of the First. However, the writers decided it made more sense to go this way with him losing his eye. Nick wasn't sure which way they went until he got the script a week or so before filming. Drew Goddard said that he and Marti Noxon collaborated on the scene with Faith and Spike in the basement. Eliza and James hadn't acted together before this and Marti wanted to see what kind of on-screen chemistry they had. A possible spin-off with Faith and Spike had been proposed. Obviously that went nowhere. Eliza went on to the the show 'Tru Calling' after Buffy and then worked with Josh Whedon again on the show Dollhouse (with Amy Acker). James went on to something else, at some point he had a recurring role as Brainiac on Smallville and lot of other roles.
I enjoy your outros as well. It's always fascinating to hear what you think, and you often mention things or piece things together that I didn't think of. I've never been one to analyse shows though, so watching your reaction to episodes and tell us your theories and views makes me see these shows that I've watched countless times in a new light. Thank you 😊
That is so good to hear!! I adore analysing shows and games, but not in a thesis type way (definitely lack the brain power for that!). It's just been so good to share in something that is so loved. It feels universal. Like that time I saw a Grr Argh sticker on the back of a car, I knew they loved Buffy. We are a little team across the world!!
I love your outros. I adore Faith, I’ve always liked her character even back in season three, I liked her bad girl vibe and that epic fight with Buffy is one of my favorite fight of the series. Im so biased towards her that I can’t remember if I ever hated her (I probably did because she was awful but I can’t remember lol). I do remember being really relieved in Angel when it became clear she’d have a redemption so I think that if I ever hated her it was more of a toxic love 😅. Caleb is despicable, I like how they made him such a misogynist to emphasize his awfulness.
Faith vs B. at the end of season 3--- is my all-time favorite fight of the show (I'm surprised it doesn't get more love)...
I love your outros! I feel obliged to get *heavy* with this episode (forgive this). What happens to Xander is horrific and (obviously) should not be in any way, form, or fashion minimized. It is also well built up and--- symbolic. The final two seasons of this show are about forcing the central core characters to confront their central core issues (in extreme fashion, of course). We've talked about it with Willow (her insecurities, her love/hate relationship with her own power). Buffy's main issues--- with stepping up from her previous level as a quippy "reluctant" hero and stepping into her new role as a responsible leader--- haven't been forced into full confrontation yet, but hoo boy, just wait! Xander Harris' main issue--- is his lust. It goes back to the beginning of the series (and plays into his inability to be fully satisfied with a woman as *awesome* as Anya). At the beginning of this episode, he's having an R-rated fantasy (played for laughs). As per usual with Xand, this is presented as comic, but--- it is a fantasy about a bunch of girls who are awfully on the young side. In the end, of course, he encounters a seriously evil supervillain who likes to pose as a "man of the cloth"--- and who suddenly takes his eye away. Again, NOT "justifying" for a second, but just commenting on the symbolism: that old book says, 'If thine eye offends thee...'
Oooh I never made that connection! Well I don’t really know the Bible and I only learned about that eye thing through The Handmaid’s Tale so maybe that’s why but it’s interesting!
I'm sure your thoughts are appreciated by the majority of the people here! It's a main thing for us to experience the show (again) through your eyes.
I love hearing your thoughts as well and always watch the outros. This part for Fillion came right on the heels of Firefly so Whedon fans were loving Fillion at the time only to see this turn. Tremendous actor to make us hate him so much.
A familiar face indeed. And playing a VERY different character to the one you're used to! And I just have to say that I love your outros. Hearing your thoughts & feelings about what you just saw, and your theories about what may happen in the future is probably my favourite part of these videos. So the longer the better in my opinion Juliette!
OH NEIL 🥰 I am glad that my ramblings are enjoyed by some! I've always just wanted to chat to people after watching a tv episode. It's one of my favourite parts to say "What did you think of THIS!" and "OMG I cannot believe Bobby did that!" I totally thought poor Nathan would be killed immediately. A kind priest man, trying to help out a girl, and he'd pay the price. Well, it seems he's not a very nice dude at all 🤣👀
