Update - 12/04/2021
Hello! How was your weekend? mine was quite productive, and I even got to play a bit of Warpstar on Friday, so overall, a good weekend. I've been absolutely focused during this past week on the new sci-fi game, which according to the poll result is called Into the Endless Void! Things are moving pretty fast, mostly because I'm really heated up about it, but also because as I said I'm using the core rules and systems from Under Ashen Skies, with some modifications to make them more suited to a dark sci-fi game. The Character Creation and Rules chapters are essentially done (already 13K words!); I'll probably go back to them to tweak some things, but overall they look great. UAS already had Trauma rules in place, but I've also added Stress, since I think it will be a lot of fun to have. I've also tweaked the survival elements, and I think I'll get rid of the temperature rules because it's too much hassle here.
The core loop of the game is as follows: you and your team (or alone, if you dare) board a spaceship, without a clue of where you're going to end up or how long it's going to take to get there (unless you opt to go to one of the already visited destinations, which means you should get there in one piece, but it's already been at least partially looted). You get to the place, grab anything of value, and return. Instead of glancing over the trip part, I've decided to make it part of the game; Stress will build up, and you might run out of oxygen and supplies if the trip goes on for too long. Or what if you manage to get to where you're going, but it's clear you'll not have enough supplies to make it back, at least as a full crew? Questions, questions...
The other piece of this puzzle that is creating a game is the design and layout. I'm very happy to be able to announce that I've brought our very own Phlvx aboard to take care of this, and he's already hard at work! Here are some samples of his WIP:
I have more, but I think this is enough to showcase how fantastic this is going to look! I don't intend to slow down with this, and although I still have a lot of work ahead of me (the actual meat and potatoes of the game, I've just built the skeleton so far), I have a pretty clear direction for it. I think it's gonna be great!
So that's it for this week, more of this next one!
