You're gonna kill me, but hear me out first...

So after having a particularly shitty day (didn't help the fact that I was very excited to finally having some actual roleplaying time, only for my friends to cancel at the last moment), I was going through Under Ashen Skies, seeing what has to be completed first so I can get some form of barebones playtesting done. But then, as it happens way too often, an old idea came back to me, an idea for another game. It's something I've had on my design wishlist for years now, but I knew I wouldn't get to it any time soon because well, it's a whole new game. But then it dawned to me: what if I took the already finished mechanics from UAS (which suit PERFECTLY this other setting), and instead of making it solo, I made it a traditional, GM-led RPG? That would cut drastically the time I would need to make this happen. So here I am, bringing you a new game pitch, despite all my currently unfinished projects:

- If any of you is familiar with a book called Gateway, by Frederik Pohl, well, it's that. A few decades into the future, asteroid mining is a thing, and one of the corporations doing so comes across this massive asteroid that turns out to actually be an ancient station, full to the brim with alien spaceships. Through lots of trial and error, they manage to make them work, but they all have a pre-set destination, and there is no way to change it. Since the station and the ships within it are hundreds of thousands of years old, the places they were supposed to go to may no longer be there, or have changed drastically. So this corporation starts hiring desperate individuals to go on expeditions, hoping their air and supplies will last long enough to get to wherever the ship is going to (and back!), and once there, be lucky enough to find ancient alien artifacts to bring home. Of course, the poor sods will find all matters of terrors and dangers in their travels.

So this game would essentially be a space dungeon crawler; you get in your spaceship with your mates, hope you actually reach some point before the supplies run out, grab and smash anything you can, and run back to the spaceship. Aside from Gateway, the biggest influences would be Alien (of course), Event Horizon, a touch of Blame!, and any other space, oppressive horror stuff you can think of.

So the question is: should I do this? Should I be terribly irresponsible and leave UAS on hold (again), as well as the skirmish minis game I was working on, to focus on this new thing? Or should I be an adult and finish UAS first? If I'm being honest, I think it would take me the same amount of time to finish UAS as making this from scratch would (since I'd be stealing a lot from UAS). My cheap rationalization for this is that it would be a great way to test UAS' mechanics, haha.

What do you think?

Then I’m on board. I have Gateway. Love Frederick Pohl :-) I do hope you finish UAS sometime...

So do I, haha!

Looks like I’m way off base with the common consensus. My concern is the move away from solo which is where my interest lies. Is this your desire?

I'm actually really re-evaluating that decision, haha. Feels wrong not to do it for a single player... My only concern is that this means much more work, and thus more time dedicated to it. But yeah, I think I'm going to make it happen.

Haha no worries, someone needs to be the voice of reason around here...
