Update - 02/11/2020
Hello! How are you all? Hope you had a nice Halloween, despite the circumstances... WE don't really do Halloween in Spain, and on top of that we're on lockdown, so I just sat and did a lot of writing, haha. I did get to watch Love & Monsters, such a fun film! Really recommend it, it's like Zombieland but with giant bugs.
So this past week I finally finished with the Conquered Sun edition of Disciples of Bone & Shadow! It took me an extra week because in the last moment I decided to address something that's been bugging me for a while now: combat takes way too long. When you're playing with the Narrative Playbook rules (which with the release of the Conquered Sun edition will become the default mode), combat is just a often deadly interruption in your story, instead of simply another part of it. Due to the game's roots as mostly a dungeon crawler, combat was at the forefront of the game's design, but now that the story elements have come to the front combat is simply a drag as it stands right now. So what did I do to solve this? I reduced the HP of all enemies (and PCs) across the board. So an average enemy will now have about 20 HP. I of course had to adjust all the damage values, so overall we're now handling much smaller numbers, which is also a good thing. It was a bit absurd to have to deal 40-50 damage per attack when you can just deal 10% of that, with the same result. This makes the combat faster and a bit easier as well, something that was necessary. I also adjusted a million other tiny things, and the game is much better now thanks to this.
These changes will also be implemented into the core book and the Narrative Playbook as soon as I get a moment, and moving forward, I would like to do the same with Seekers Beyond the Shroud, but that will probably have to wait until I start working on the Narrative Playbook.
I've also released the Troika! micro-setting Earthjumpers, as you must already be aware of since it's free for you guys to download. It was a nice change of pace, and it only took me like 5 hours total to put together, so it was fun! If people like it I have ideas to turn it into a zine, but we'll see... I have way too many projects in my hands.
So this week I'll start looking into the new Patreon content for this month, which is going to be for Disciples. I want to implement the new Archetype I thought of, which is a fantastic addition to the game, and it implies doing some ruins delving so I need to draw a map for it... And if I have time I want to add some other stuff to the game as well. I will also work on Under Ashen Skies; I need to re-evaluate the skill system and some of the combat rules. I think I know how to approach it, and it should be a great change for the game. I'll let you know next week how it went!
I think that's enough for this week, talk to you soon!
