I wanna know your honest opinions. What do you guys like better? weekly short uploads, or one huge movie like once per month that is an absolute banger like the video I just uploaded, but the wait is longer?

Not that it matters because you posted this 3 years ago, and I don't know if you get paid for comments on this platform but I'm leaving my input just in case....I like long 1 hour uploads for content like Lego series but for movies and other stuff short uploads ❤️

I'm personally all in for the long videos. Short videos just don't have the entire story arc. It's insane how good movie 1 is.
once per month but if you could not do a real good film once per month then maybe one every other month with shorts in between.

Can’t remember the title, but it’s 1:05, so should be easy to find. Also, it is dated mid-October. I think it has “secret footage” in the title. The one with “hard drive” in the title is a sit down podcasty type one where they explain and expand upon some things that may have been unclear in the doc and talk about what might come next.

I definitely think that the YouTube content should be longer, high quality videos. Then, on Patreon, put shorter, quick to post content that was edited out of the, "bangers."

Not sure if I’m missing something, but kind of feels like most of the stuff on Patreon is also available free on YouTube. Came here because I wanted to support you, as you claim you make no money on YouTube due to being demonetized. Guess I Was hoping for more of the unedited footage and behind the scenes stuff you cannot post on the main channel, due to terms of service.
I kind of get Ben's reasoning for this. His initial desire as a journalist was and still is to expose this as widely as possible, not just to make his discoveries privileged patreon information. He pushed Patreon because he had to, because we all had to wait until October 15 for Youtube due to the strikes. I'm sure we'll continue to see more here, but something else which has been clear is that Ben is not showing his full hand on either page, and I think that is going to be integral to taking down Russ. What we learn, Russ learns. Ben does need to maintain some element of surprise, which is why we only learned in the last Youtube video what the pizza thing was all about. I think it will all make sense in the end. But Reckless Ben still needs us! Youtube is still not paying well despite the views he's bringing in. I'm glad to see Ben back on Youtube because this is what we all ultimately want, but I haven't felt ripped off on the patreon end. It's also good to know that we're making it possible for him to continue releasing this the way he is. I think Ben is doing his best to release what he can without compromising on the ultimate delivery, and I'm here for it!
I'd vote for long form at a consistent release rate with short form teaser content released at random often. I think this hits all the bases. Everything is awesome.
I think you could have absolutely made the last banger two 30 minute videos if you needed to, but I loved the long video too. I’d say keep the videos between 30-45 minutes as a sweet spot, so not to lose the attention of people who only have a certain amount of time to watch a video. I 100% support the long form over short form though.
I prefer the longer videos, but IMO it all boils down to what you like to make. Either way I'm here for it.

It's a way for people to support the work you're doing. Obviously, if you *stop* doing work, then let people know, but I can say that I loved the latest video and it's been worth my membership over the last couple of months.

He definitely has everything. I think what people are missing is that regardless of the short clip at the very end, there is plenty of footage throughout the video that was never made public by Russ. It's being used already.

They're competing with TikTok and Netflix simultaneously with shorts and long content, while everything in the middle seems to be falling by the wayside

Overall, longer vids better for sure. You really knocked it out of the park with that last one. However, since they take much more work, I'd simply caution you to set expectations appropriately regarding giving exact dates for release. Giving windows is much better. Keep up the good work man!
I agree with this. Maybe even post an update message and a screen grab to tease upcoming content if there will be lengthy periods between content drops. You and your team did incredible work on this last video, not simply from the production standpoint. The Hulu documentary was good, but the lengths to which you tracked down resources were incredible. I initially contributed to view the additional content on the current series. But, if you continue to deliver this level on future projects, I will have to up my subscriber level.

You could also make some shorts from your existing content to draw in new viewers and maybe someone who has a brain at YouTube will actually watch a few videos.

I personally prefer somewhere in the middle, but the big upside to releasing larger projects, less frequently is you are less likely to foil yourself by tipping off who you're investigating. So I side with and support whatever is best for the channel.

Hey Ben! I love your work. I recently was introduced to your stuff while doing research on Scientology. Those videos seem to be in the shorter, weekly format. I then saw your evolution as you worked on the banksy project to the yellow deli. Not only did your videos get longer they also became more concise. All of this to say that I think your long form content is far superior. While it is interesting to see “how the sausage is made” with shorter less edited content, I think your documentaries have a point, and a point is very hard to keep track of when it is 20 videos instead of 5. I will also say I think the general market is desperate for your type of content. I work in entertainment (I publish games not really the same market as documentaries but we are all dealing in getting people to spend their time on our work), and we have seen people desperate for more enveloping and thought out content than just “quick and digestible”. I am personally desperate for documentary content, and the entertainment industry at large has moved to documentary series about the same thing over and over again. There were 3 different documentaries about Alex Murdaugh in the last 12 months. I want a documentary like Exit Through the Gift shop or Paradise Lost. I am tired of the world shooting out 6 hour news articles about hot topics…I am already dreading the 14 Sam Bankman-Fried documentaries that I am sure were greenlit this year. Keep up the good work Ben! Love what you do.

It all depends on you. Personally it sounded like you were having a rough couple days at the end editing. If that's the case, for you sanity go the short route. Also if you do the short videos wouldn't that help with monetization sake? I guess 1 long one keeps the strikes down too....tough calls across the board for ya. Preference for me is shorts
Personally would prefer weekly or every other week, however if it makes sense to hold information from the public until a later (longer) upload, then do that! My biggest request is knowing when to roughly expect them. My wife and I have been so excited but a little frustrated at the recent wait. Killer video though!!
Maybe a quick 5 minute update every week until the longer videos are ready.

That’s very tough. It was so hard to wait this time but so very well worth it. I think I really like the idea of your brain having a month to work. You are so good at what you do, i feel if you had a month in between videos to work, especially if they are these infiltrating/investigative type, you will completely change the landscape. You no doubt have already begun to do that as you become more and more known!

Longer videos always better, imo. Having the entire journey told from beginning to end of how you got to the hard drive was a really crazy ride. You lose the accumulated experience if it's a bunch of videos released in parts. People binge watch series these days; they don't watch stuff week to week. Big videos for sure.

I think the once-a-month uploads hit harder. Although I do love the weekly uploads .. So, either way is good. But I worry that once a month would make it so much more impactful to you when videos get taken down, etc. I'd like to see more long form content, todays video was incredible. But see what works best for you overall. See if the performance of the video scales, or not.

As long as you're able to provide timely updates, the longer video was way worth the wait and it was easier to picture the whole story vs. trying to piece together little increments.
I think 10 min is the sweet spot. I personally like the cliff hangers and the anticipation of an update. Plus, I’m generally busy, and it’s a little tough to watch a 60+ minute video. The podcast excerpts I skip entirely.

Personally, for YouTube, I am fine with the 1 video a month if it's like the last one. Especially in this situation where you are playing your cards close. Then for Patreon, maybe once a week, or every other week for some of those behind the scenes videos.
As much as I love the weekly content more often, I always hate the feeling that I'm not getting the full story right away. I am absolutely fine with longer form content as long as it is easier and manageable for you as a creator to do. I will be happy with what is easier for you
