Workbook sketch fiesta
I try to keep a big lined pad in the kitchen that I use as my workbook, the ones I buy are 200 pages long and I just finished the pad I started in Autumn 2024. So here are a selection of drawings and notes from it that I thought you might enjoy. This book covers Wobbly Head pt 1 right up to the current story I am drawing ("Hull or High Water") and it is interesting to see how early ideas for things that would happen a lot later start to appear in it. A significant section is devoted to various looks at Steeple stories beyond the ones that have already run, with ideas being well developed before I thought better of it (for now). I've included one little drawing that shows that just to show that I'm not a terrible tease. Lots of drawings that conveyed an idea there wasn't space for too. Lottie's tattoo ended up being something else altogether more mysterious.
Nice to look back over these notes and sketches from a strong creative period. I hope you enjoy them.

TBF, all I want for Christmas is the return of Steeple, too.
Thanks John
Your description of the dead luthier as a moving target makes me picture him sitting in a runaway cart, with Susan & co in hot pursuit...
Do Claire and Glerm have a mutual _romantic_ interest in Lottie?
I don't think it's a Betty and Veronica situation, no
Now I REALLY want more Steeple. I miss those characters.
Oh, man! Page 2 has an *exquisite!* character! Bra - VO, John!
I love to see this stuff. That one line break down of every page is ingenious. I’ve never seen that before and it just makes a lot of sense. Thanks John!
If I can write a meaningful line for every page, even a simple one, I can see the whole issue very clearly. Gets a bit harder over 24/32 pages so then I split it.
Question. Do we have to wait for Beate's return for see Lottie's tattoo?
I think it's funnier if we never see it - it might only be visible under ultraviolet light.
A fiesta indeed! I'm all partied out now.
This post already kind of answered a question I had about if you have a series Bible that you draft up before working on a new series or project.
Nothing so organised, I like to discover as I go.
Stop you are making the AI bots jealous.
