Iconoclasm
Keenspot have finally disabled the old Bobbins website (24 years after I left the network - for shame!) but I was able to nip into the old FTP today and grab the whole site. There are some astonishingly ghastly relics of my early 2000s art practice tucked away in there that no one must ever see. But I also found a set of Bobbins icon files that I think I made while under the spell of the old Flipflopflyin pixel art site (relevant interview with its creator here).
I think I made these, anyway. They're certainly the tidiest art I produced in the year 2000, but I did have pixel art "form" of many years standing (beginning with my days designing sprites on Shoot Em Up Construction Kit) so hopefully I won't have to be disabused of the fact that I think I made them. You can download the .ico files at the end of the post. Lord knows what you'll do with them.

This historical thread propelled me to my bookshelf, where I spent an enjoyable hour reviewing my little copy of "Looks, Brains, & Everything" ... Right up until I reviewed the foreword and afterword ... and punched the referenced "bobbins dot org" into my browser ... And found Something Completely Different. Sigh. Fortunately I still have all of the hardcopies!
Alas Keenspot, who were meant to maintain the old Bobbins archive, let it expire in the early 2000s rather than asking me to pay for it. I have always wanted it back but that is an irrational wish and it costs a fortune better spent elsewhere. Still annoys me.
...and Heresy Sorry - I'm a longtime player of Avalon Hill's classic boardgame *Advanced Civilization*, so the calamity just kinda rolls out naturally.
I had completely forgotten about the existence of Van Dyke Jones until today! I suppose he was once important enough a character to deserve an icon.
I still have bobbins.horse bookmarked. alas, it is now a link to nowhere.
I did not expect to be reminded of the Shoot Em Up Construction Kit today 🥲
I’ve seen it now. On Safari it’s much easier to access - Chrome always took me to a 404. Oh well, guess I’m a fool.
dag nabbit Goofle.
Whether or not the Bobbins site is gone, there's never a bad time to upgrade your desktop! Though exactly what application would be right to open by clicking Rich Tweedy, I'm not sure. Maybe Steam.
The website still seems to be accessible from my end. Then again, I think there was a Bobbins website before this one, so that might be what you’re referring to.
Where can you see it, Luke? bobbins.keenspot.com certainly isn't accessible to me.
