Read SOLVER #16 (LITTLE DAYS) in full, now!

Sunday greetings, valued subscriber. A new Solver story is here for you. This is the first part of a trilogy of single-issue tales that will round out volume 2. The next one, "Hull or High Water", will be with you on March 1st. If you enjoy this issue or have anything to say, I look forward to hearing from you in the comments. Rest assured, I read every one. Your PDF is linked beneath the cover art.

Love it. I want to publicly register that i ship glorm/lottie. Think about that before you hit post on that next issue.

I enjoyed that - always nice to see these characters again. Was the comment about Dean's age a bit of meta-humour? (I.e. would he be in his 50s without the sliding timeline?) I was a bit confused about where the pizza had come from, until I noticed that they were now sitting on the sofa (rather than the bed), i.e. there's an implied passage of time between panels. And I like "Nang" as a sound effect! I've only heard about process servers in American media before, but apparently Dean handled this correctly, i.e. the papers are supposed to be delivered by a neutral third party and handed directly to the recipient (rather than just shoved under the door).

That’s more a joke on his general appearance. Even in Giant Days, the characters occasionally commented on him looking/dressing a lot older than he actually is. The timeline doesn’t really seem to be sliding either.

This was an absolute delight. I think this is my favourite issue so far. Huge fan of Dean and Glen's odd little friendship, and of BOBBY PROBLEMS

I wondered for a moment whether Bobby Problems could in fact be Bobby Swaps, all grown up -- but hair, nose, build are all different.

It wouldn't be one of your stories if everyone wasn't getting in trouble (again.) -As to how you manage to make this all charming and funny, that's your gift to the world!

This was great. The only drawback is that I now have to wait for the next one! I was somewhat expecting this to be more of a new start after the momentousness of Wobbly Head, but the way this follows on from it works even better. I liked the sprinkling in of Bad Machinery continuity for both comedic and dramatic effect - and I echo Lottie's sentiments about Bobby!

Thank you John, and happy New Year

"Betty Phage", I guffawed. Another winner from the pen of Allison. Up there with "Chibi Vampirella" in the Lottie epithets Hall of Infamy. Thanks John, keep 'em coming.

"Klarna assigned you a CASEWORKER?" I snort-laughed, and it wasn't the only time. Lovely story, John. And happy new year!

Lovely as always, and some truly unnecessarily interesting camera angles in this one. I'm somewhat surprised Claire has managed to keep secret an entire draw stuffed with pyromaniaccessories!

J
John Allison · January 5, 2026

I was very tired at the end of the year, and the camera angles in this betray, shall we say, a slightly demented approach.

I need a Smile Lawyers NO LADDER IS INNOCENT poster to go with my British Ladder Council one. Also, I see the Amstrad computer make a sneaky appearance. Of course, not many were sold which is why Alan Sugar pivoted away from electronic goods to clothing and kitchen utensils.

o no, I love him.

Love line free Cher!

Lovely issue, John. Also, I have to say that Lottie's DVD choice is excellent. That show (and the two TV movies preceding it) meant everything to me as a precocious yet simultaneously behindhand adolescent.

J
John Allison · January 5, 2026

I've seen the TV movies but never the actual series. Maybe one day!

Thank you so much John and what a storyarch!! And here I was thinking we'd get a nice quiet break from the tumult and suspense of Wobbly Head but even in banal moments there is incredible weight and consequence going on. Also, while I still love Dean as a character I forgot how loathsome he can be!!

John Allison · January 4, 2026

He's a complicated man with a strange charisma

You're a master at making minutiae into major turns. Devoured this in one go and can't wait to find out what happens next!

J
John Allison · January 4, 2026

Scripting and roughing out the next part starts tomorrow morning and I'm excited to begin.

Glad we’re getting more focus on Geico Always felt a little out of focus compared to Lottie and Claire, especially in the Wobbly Head arc, so this should be interesting

J
John Allison · January 4, 2026

Glenn is very much the Skinner of Solver's X-Files, never quite enough time to truly shine

heyheyhaydn · January 4, 2026

Some killer looks for Lottie and Claire in this one. Intrigued to see where the story goes after that coathanger... uhh... cliffhanger hoho

Thank you John! This was a welcome balm on a dark day.

Same. Hasn’t been the best weekend, but this has made my night.

I was so excited I ripped through this like the clappers! I will ask but one thing, this early on - Why would Dean want to learn to lisp fluently? Does he have, gasp, THE FEELINGS???

J
John Allison · January 4, 2026

I'm not sure what this refers to...

Thanks John!

A pleasure as always, Pete.
