KILL OR BE QUILT announced
Issue 1 of a new 4-part limited series (with me writing and Max Sarin drawing) is out from Dark Horse in April 2025. It's a follow-up to Great British Bump-Off called KILL OR BE QUILT.
I'll have further details in the new year, but here is the cover to the first issue, and the variant cover for #1 by Lissa Treiman. Read more about it at CBR.

So..., this is going to be a quilt-making competition held at sea?
YEEESSS!!!!! CAN'T WAIT!
Wooooooooooo! Go Shauna.
I'm experiencing a rush of profound happiness. Thank you, John, Max, Sammy and Jim!
Great. Keep us apprised and I'll be there.
I'm looking forward to this! I assume that (at least within the US) this should become available for comic shops to pre-order in February?
Yes. I will do a push on this closer to the time as most of my regular readers are not "wednesday warriors" shall we say and often struggle to secure issues as they come out as there are none on the shelves.
YES
Oh gosh I hope that anchor tattoo is canon
Shauna showed it off to Lottie in Solver Holiday Surprise 2022, so yes it’s real.
I have questions for your q&a if you are still accepting submissions! A. How do you decide when/if you do the variant cover? I do love the variants you did for GBBO 2. You were going to go to comic-con in San Diego I think in 2020, but obviously it didn’t happen, do you think you’d try to attend again? Also, yay for more Shauna! I’m so excited for this next year!
Hi Traci, I can answer these quickly for you. A. The publisher decides if there should be variants. I have input on who should do covers but not always the final say. I can put myself forward to do variants for my own books (and have never been turned down when I do!) but I don't always have the time. 2. I was asked to be the international guest in 2020, and when the event was cancelled, I was asked again in 2022, but for unavoidable personal reasons I wasn't able to attend. A great shame! I don't think the invitation will be extended again (by SDCC or any of my publishers) so I'm not sure when I will next attend.
That second cover reminds me of the Tarot hanged man.
Shauna! Shauna! Shauna! Yay!
A question, John: when you are writing, are you also drawing? I mean do you write out a screenplay, so to speak, then flesh out the storyboards? Or do you always draw when you write? Particularly curious as it pertains to working with another artist.
I'll answer this in a Q&A post as I can't find anywhere I've summarised it before.
Oh John, you're spoiling us!! Not just the most thrilling Solver arch to date and a holiday special, but Shauna taking on the high seas and yet another dimension of the British crafting scene!!
Sweet!
Hooray! Pottery one next, boss?
I think this will be the last one. But if we return, I plan to tackle origami.
Yahoo!
I'm sure this'll have us all in stitches.
Huzzah, more Shauna!
The most deadly version of Scotland (assuming this is around Glasgow) since Dog Soldiers (2002)
Fantastic! This will be on my pull list at the earliest possible opportunity.
Intrigued to see Shauna’s personal story continuing with more death-related scenarios, an interesting fit for a more everyman character compared to Lottie. Also when does this take place? Like is it before or after Wobbly Head? (I know this can’t be answered until 2025 but good to get it out there ahead)
No one dies
Woo! I have to say I prefer the variant cover though (assuming that's the second one)
ALERT ALERT ALERT There is now something to look forward to about 2025!
OH HECK YEAH
I, for one, am rejoicing.
