[Monster Wheel] Psiedra - CR 1/8 Tiny Dragon

Psychic, Mountain/Hill, Dragon, Familiar

“Excuse me—”
“Waah!”
“Sorry to disturb, I could—wait! Come back!”

— Dr. Doolots upon approaching a psiedrabonded adventurer

The psyches of dragons are not so easily dismissed from this mortal coil. Their tenacious egos are inclined to attach themselves to magical substrates capable of acting as conduits for their ongoing thoughts. Be it an arcane item or the naturally occurring, psychically-active rock, psiedranite, a dragon’s psyche can imbue such things with sentience. Floating amalgams of red-gold rock woven together with strands of ethereal purple energy, psiedrae are joyful serpentine creatures that relish the company of the thoughtful, curious, and easily-impressed.

Wyrmling’s Waypoint. Psiedrae are formed almost exclusively by the psyches of wyrmlings; deposits of the ore are rarely large enough for the psyches of older, more developed dragons to take root. Indeed, since the Psiedranitic Catastrophe at the College of Hanabi, most rulers have put into law strict limits on the volume of psiedranite that can be stored in any one location.

Juvenile Joy. Psiedrae tend to manifest as playful, basally intelligent creatures, often carrying a scruple of their forebear’s defining characteristics. Due to the territories of red and gold dragons coinciding with that of psiedranite—remote high mountaintops—this characteristic tends to be greed. Rather than material wealth, psiedrae are drawn to the awe of other creatures, basking in it much as their draconic ancestors might have wallowed in gold.

Psionic Symbiosis. When a psiedra finds a suitably curious host, they attach themselves, much in the way a pilot fish attaches itself to a shark. The psiedra stimulates a sense of alertness in their host that causes it to be easily startled and prone to fleeing, ensuring both entities’ survival.
