Vimeo's dead.

You might've noticed the new episodes both launched on YouTube instead of vimeo first, it's because Vimeo have quietly changed their Terms of Service, going after the Top 1% of creators. They came after Maffew a few months ago so it was inevitable they came for us. I've gone back and forth with them and even in our most conservative projections, it's a no-go:
Instead of running ads and giving creators money (like YouTube) they ask creators to pay to have their content hosted. At $150 or so per year that's grand. But like, $35K per year, EVERY YEAR, there's a 10% discount if you give us $70K up front ... c'mon 😂
Anyway it means we'll release videos here on NU first, because it's a much smaller pool of viewers it's ok, until it's ready to go on youtube!

I said it when Maffew posted about it but what kind of business model is that. Drive away the people drawing the most traffic to your website. It's absurd.

So Vimeo doesn't even want to become a rival of YouTube it seems. Create a higher bandwith tier with reasonable rates and you would actually increase business and revenue. This seems designed to drive away users ensuring it will always have "also ran" status.

I don't know, like I see their point of view, but then again the price they want... I think they should get something as without them creators wouldn't really have anywhere else as YouTube seems to block it. It's a weird one. Stupid insane price.
