First of all, we want to thank you all for your participation in the latest poll to select the future fantasy races coming to Highlands Miniatures in a few months. If you have not voted yet, remember that the poll is still open and you can vote HERE.
As we announced in the same publication, for this coming June 2024 we will continue working and updating our old Sunland range of miniatures.
In today's publication we take a third look at the miniatures coming next month with a massive preview showcasing the new Sunland Cavalry and the Sunland Altar on Chariot, including a new Sunland Priest.
And remember guys, the new and updated set of Sunland miniatures coming this June 2024 will include:
8x Sunland Landsknechts
3x Sunland Landsknecht Command Group
5x Sunland Cavalry
3x Sunland Cavalry Command Group
4x Sunland Horses
1x Sunland Ironclad Landship
Sunland Artillery Battery
1x Sunland Altar on Wagon
1x Sunland Priest
Let's dive into it!
Sunland Cavalry
The new Sunland Cavalry unit is designed around the historical renaissance knights with several fantasy touches to not fall into the historically accurate line of miniatures.
There are several examples out there about the renaissance knights in museums that served us as inspiration, like the collection available in the Stibbert Museum in Florence, the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds or the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
These miniatures come with modular helmets and shields.
Sunland Altar on Chariot
The Sunland Altar on Chariot has been a complicated piece to design. We wanted to design a lightweight yet impressive chariot as a relic carrier but also with enough space to place a miniature on top to rally the troops into battle.
For the main piece we took inspiration from the Griffin Stairwell that appears in Harry Potter movies: "a spiral staircase that was moving smoothly upward, like an escalator" that led to the Headmaster's office."
We have also designed a new Sunland Priest to be placed on top of the chariot.
The Sunland Altar on Chariot is designed over a 100x60mm square base.
But Mister... Mister...My friends oblige me to place the Sunland Priest facing the wrong direction or they will bully me. What can I do, mister...
When we envisioned this miniature, we thought about the purpose of the same.
As you may see in many medieval movies -like Kingdom of Heaven, Braveheart or many others- priests rally the soldiers positioning themselves in front of them, facing backwards to the enemy, in order to pray or give their blessing to the soldiers.
Therefore, in our design the Sunland Priest is facing backwards, towards the troops and not towards the enemy.
But in order to give players more freedom, the Sunland Altar on Chariot is designed to be placed facing both directions, with a separated griffin statue that you can rotate to face forward or backward.
The Sunland Altar on Chariot horses does not come attached to the chariot. The attachment is visually simulated through the chains. Therefore, you can place them in both sides of the main chariot.

Just absolutely incredible. Maybe I'm just easily impressed, but every Highland Minis reveal/release gets me as excited as a kid at Christmas

I sure hope having sculpted a griffin comes in handy for some future hero units 😂

The alter looks great on both directions, but I'm with you in your vision. I'll be building mine to face backwards. I don't think that's been done before

These are great! Do the arms come as a separate piece? I might add some foot knight hand weapons!

Glad you like them Zack! Sadly no, the arms come attached to the miniatures. They only come with modular helmets and shields.

Would it be possible to make the lance guard a bit thinner? They look a bit thick and heavy. I know it's for durability.

Hi Harry! If you have some 3D knowledge you may be able to edit the spear in any 3D modelling software and make it thinner :)

Beautiful and amazing as always! Love the dynamic nature of these! Please, if possible, just add an arm or two where the lances are properly couched and tight to the body! :-)
