1:08:30 sopranos literally discusses all of these topics
My parents were firm believers in letting us participate in all of the family social gatherings: weddings, baptisms graduations and funerals. My dad said it helped us find our place in and among our family.
Thanks Tom, Thanks Nick!
I do don't think it's crazy at all that Shirl wants to handle Nell herself. Preparation for burials was done by the family for most of time. I think it's a beautiful act of love. Would I want to do it? Absolutely not. But seriously, why wouldn't she?
6:30 well said. The body in an open casket never looks like the living person. Sometimes you hardly recognize them at all! I also don't agree how a dead grandma is a nicer mental picture to have, then the times he saw grandma alive, but without wig/teeth. When my grandpa was dying in the hospital, I wasn't allowed to say goodbye, because my mom didn't want to me to remember him like that. But now the last time I saw him was in an open casket. Imo that's even worse. Now you still see them, but you can't talk to them.
A very common mistake I find with people in horror stories is that they look away for a light switch. When I see something strange and it's dark I try not to look away AND find a light source, I ain't giving it a chance to "disappear".
Juicy juice?
My mom works at a funeral home, so what she does is very familiar to what Shirley does in the show. She's taking care of the bodies and guiding families through grief and funerals. All i can say is, you need to have an "attraction" for dark stuff to be able to work in that field. A lot of self control because there's a lot of hard situations to get through but also a need to ease people's mind, as they are grieving. My mom told me she feels relief in knowing people are trusting her with the bodies and the organization. She likes to make sure her clients are comfortable in her office, just like a therapist would, so they can feel comfortable sharing their thoughts about funeral quotation, and the funerals itself. I definitely think most funeral workers find peace in taking care of someone who was once loved, even after death BUT it doesn't mean they like being around dead bodies. They can handle it, that's all. Some are driven by the concept of making death seems a bit less scarier than it feels like. It's a beautiful job, but not for everyone. ^^
Please keep going ❤️💜
the details, the writing, the cinematography just a great show all around! a great and unique depiction of grief and trauma.
I love this show! Only thing that bothers me in this episode is that they feed the kitten cow milk (which would kill them). I rescue and they need a special formula. Love, love, love this show and this is the only thing that bothers me on rewatch.
