The Charming Susan Strangler - Demarest, New Jersey
This week, in Demarest, New Jersey, something seems to be up, when two women disappear. Both are found brutally murdered, within days of each other, and near the same area. The crazy part is, it turns out that both of their names were Susan, and that's not the only thing that thet end up having in common. The other thing is a connection to a local man, nicknamed "The Charmer", who is supported by a rich aunt, and always in trouble for increasingly violent behavior. Will his family money keep him out of trouble??
Along the way, we find out that when the Army used to run out of space, the soldiers would just live at a racetrack, that constantly bailing a troubled person out of trouble isn't always the best solution, and that some people won't take you out of their will, even if you try to have them killed!!

My exact childhood experience: “Don’t touch that horse! It’s gonna end up costing us something. Back away!” 😂😂
Please come back to Michigan!
Kevin Mitnik's book Ghost in the Wire (James mentioned him wrt the empty birth certificates) is brilliant. He was not only the best hacker, but extremely skilled in, what Kevin called "social engineering", how to get confidential info from companies without any hacking. Great book, as is his other book, "The art of deception". Absolutely worth a listen - I also have the audiobooks.
"he can't leave New Jersey, which is a sentence right there-" 😂 as a New Yorker who's been living in NJ for the past 3.5 years...I completely agree 🤣 (sorry NJ peeps - I'm happy for you if you like living here, it's just not for me. I can't wait to move next month lol)
I was so fucking happy when you guys said you’ll wait to go on the elevator if a girl is alone or you’ll lean away and go on your phone 😮💨 there are still good people out there. Being in an elevator alone and having a random man try to speak to you or hit on you, are some of the scariest experiences I’ve had as a woman.
2:15:30 They need to give the prison guards quarterly reminders not to lay with convicts 3:00:25 Stay cool, laugh when it's appropriate and peg willing dudes
What happened to the guys wife and step-kid?
The treatment director should be tried also. They hold bartenders accountable for letting a drunk drive. Why don’t judges and other people get held accountable for letting criminals out when they are obviously dangerous
Nagila!!!!
I like that James can't help but repeat "hundred dollars cash". Every time 😂
I just went and looked at the real estate listings. Those are some ugly, no-personality mansions! The one homey, pretty one with lots of light had neighbors so close they could jump in the pool from their bathroom window. No thank you.
How could she have her engagement ring on her dead body after he had pawned it? Did I miss something? 🤷♀️
1:22 “…..which is a sentence right there” 😆
TMI I know, but going through a miscarriage and needing something to get by. Thanks guys for providing that.
I’m so sorry to hear that. ❤️🩹
LOL Jersey native here, I just started it and you're mentioning the holy Angels dance the squad and my first thought was haha holy whores.. that's what we called them in high school that's a school where rich girls go and that was what we called the school holy whores😂
The Alison name was popular with American due to Robert Clay Alison who was a huge cattle rancher and Trail Boss
Public defender here. Only man named Alison I’ve ever seen was a guy (not my client) who was getting charged because he [allegedly] kept calling the local cops trying to buy cocaine from them
That’s amazing. He was just calling the station? 🤣
Carroll is usually a surname usally with O' in front I have never in my whole life met someone here in Ireland who is a man called Carroll, like Reagan I assume it's an Irish American thing
I listen and subscribe to any and all the shit you 2 do. I fucking love you guys. Started when STM was at/around 70 episodes. I want a new episode of all your podcasts everyday (truck driver with a lot of time). That being said, I don't know how you guys have any time to do anything. I, for one appreciate all the hard work you do to bring the best entertainment to my lonely cab and make my days go by quickly. I hope I spelled and used punctuation correctly. Keep up the great work.
Spelling and punctuation: 4.9/5 stars (excellent, in my humble estimation)🏆🤘😁
I'll be honest, if I were in jail for life, I'd never stop trying to escape. What's the worst that could happen? More forever in prison? Lmao
Off topic, but can anyone remind me which episode was the guy hearing voices in the air conditioner?
CIS #55 Ike Ieabuchi? ' Demons in the air conditioner '
Gloucester is pronounced Glaw-stah 🙂
Is it possible that auntie got to the therapist? Money talks, rapists walks.
All I can think of is the "killing every Sarah Connor" thing from Terminator
James, can I pay you to record, "HEY, YO, SWEETHEART! YOU GOTTA FUCKIN' TEXT MESSAGE OVA HERE!" In your Italian guy voice? It's my favorite of all your accents/impersonations. ❤️
That and the drunk! Those are my faves
Yayy!!!

Ij 1975, young women of Susan's socioeconomic status often travelled abroad post graduation or summers. Trek in Nepal or work in a kibbutz. Many of us pursued Master's, some married and many took jobs in Manhattan to earn $$, figure out their next step and listen to your Dad rag on you for the billionth time that a BA in Medieval Lit! I made $200/wk as a law firm office manager, roomed w 2 college friends, and dinner was Cheetos and a bottle of wine. PS my degrees were Spanish with minors in Business and PoliSci.
My theory about why serial killers like VW Bugs is because the trunk is in the front. They can constantly have their eyes on their secret treasure, even when transporting their victims’s bodies. A victim is practically laying in his lap when he’s driving. It’s close, intimate, and secret even though it’s happening in everyone’s faces.
THAT gave me goosebumps. I happened to be a college student with long dark hair, parted in the middle during those rollicking Bundy days...
Yaaaayyyy!!!
Really needed this today. Thanks!
