The Tuxedo Killer - Cranston, Rhode Island
This week, in Cranston, Rhode Island, a man threatening to jump off a bridge while wearing a tuxedo, leads to a disturbing crime scene, with the victim seemingly killed in 3 different ways. This horrible killing apparently happened while an elderly neighbor looked on in horror. Detectives & prosecutors are left to untangle a complicated relationship, and a whole lot of psychological records, in an effort to convict a very controlling, troubled & possibly demented man!!
Along the way, we find out that any town in Rhode Island can be considered "small", that even if you're in a fight with yoour signifigant other, you can't leave a wedding early, and that formal wear is definitely the strangest attire to murder, while wearing!!

Wait!!! 5 percent African American in Rhode Island?? So your telling me I can get Soul food and Italian food in the same area?
Muckled generally functions as the past-tense form or variation of the regional verb muckle, meaning to grab, hold on tightly, or tug at something fiercely
Im hearing a similar list of meds to LC. Im only 75 minutes into this episode so I’m not sure how this will play out.
“Denied, dismissed, affirmed, get fucked” would make for great merch 🤣
Did anyone else immediately think we got transported to the Karen Reed case when James first started? And then die laughing when her case got brought up. Alls I kept thinking was, “balloon knot fa her asshole” 🤧😭🥹
Who is Vicky? He mentioned a date in the pod was the same date she passed away.
I know that perfectly normal 911 calls happen (I was the subject of one last year when I fell and broke one ankle and badly sprained the other) but my first time making one should have been easy! I lived down the street from a firehouse. I went to take the trash to the dumpster and found a man lying in the middle of the parking lot of the apartment complex right outside my front door. I took the trash out, yelled "hey mister, you okay?" and went back in to call 911. When the operator tried to convince me to go out there and check on him I was like "I'm 13 and my parents aren't home. I don't know him, send an ambulance." The operator didn't believe me. I locked the door and kept a running narrative from the window, but I wasn't going near him. A guy who wasn't a neighbor walked up, started pacing and looking around, then got into his car that was parked in my best-friend's parents' assigned spot. But the unresponsive gentleman was blocking the car! I'm telling the operator that I'm seeing this dude beating on the steering wheel, gave the license plate number and description of him as best I could... It's been 10 minutes and I could have run to the fire station in 5! Operator's still telling me to go take a pulse when an adult shows up and starts checking him out then begins CPR, and I know her so I open the door and yell to ask if he's got a pulse at all and the operator FINALLY believes it's not a crank call. Drug overdose. The guy in the car tried to sneak away but everyone saw him. The deceased passed of an OD of heroin that was stepped on with some nasty stuff, Car Guy was the dealer. I learned that from MY BEST FRIEND'S DAD WHO WAS A COP AND WHOSE SPOT THE DEALER PARKED IN.
The Lindsey Clancy of it all. ... Here's 12 meds over months by many different docs. It equals ... Brain soup.
Pharmaceuticals Talk with James & Jimmie!
His favorite song must be Hair of the Dog by Nazareth.

I had a customer many years ago named Andrew Andrews
As usual the comments here DO NOT disappoint. #STMNation
Dr. Fix man? Any relation to Dr Leo Spaceman from 30 Rock? Is he also played by Chris Parnell?
Between this and the Clancy trial I feel like an expert on psych drugs! Seems less talking and more scrip writing is the practice these days. I wish you all peaceful minds and hearts. Nagila!!
Klonopin stays in your urine for like 3-7 days after consumption. So he hasn't taken it in like a week leading up to the murder?
All the bridge talk somehow reminded me of the story CIS alumni Dick Slater had about Terry Funk trying to fake a suicide attempt to get it in the press, to run a story about how the Florida wrestling fans drove him to suicide for their poor treatment of him.
2:23:00 AI tells me Muckle is regional: [Geographic Variations: Downeast Maine: This is the most prominent region in the United States where "muckle" transitioned from a Scottish adjective into a heavy-duty verb. Maine locals use it for everything from grabbing a heavy rope in a storm to a cop tackling a suspect. Atlantic Canada & Ontario: In places like New Brunswick and parts of Ontario, the slang is heavily used to describe tight physical grips, such as tackling someone in sports or pinning someone down.] So similar to "Beer isn't alcohol"o suppose
And to think you could've just read the comments instead of turning to AI 🙄
They’re clapping cheeks at live shows? Nice.
.... Buspar was a weird choice as far as trying to overdose. Does anyone else think this guy wasn't really taking ANY meds on the regular? And Klonopin is a long acting benzo so if he'd really taken that much in one day, or with any semblance of consistency... I feel like the only thing that would have anchored this loose cannon is shock therapy. Someone should have zapped him early on until he did nothing but fingerpaint and drool.
this guy is a fucking asshole of the highest caliber for this show but I have two rules one never mix alcohol and benzos aka kilonopin or Xanax and two never mix alcohol with really any kind of pills if it doesn't kill them it enhances them and if I mix alcohol n benzos I'll break out in hand cuffs if Im not careful!
Is "kilonopin" when you have a whole lot of pills? 😂
Couldn’t agree with you guys more about Karen Read. A mess of a case in all sides. But she was unhinged.
As a RI native, I can assure you there are PLENTY of poors in Cranston…
Man this one was rough. She may have taken the guy back again anyway, but the fact that Jeanne’s dad is the one who told her to take him back the last time really sticks in my craw.
Bless you guys. I needed this laugh today.
Stop with the accents please. They’re so not funny
R u for real? Those are the best parts! May wanna stop listening because they all about those accents and it makes the show that much better!
I personally try not to do math in public, but if he had been taking his meds as prescribed, didn't we figure he'd be out by mid-September? Unless he got them all re-filled. But he never went back to any of his doctors, did he? I'm calling 💩 on trying to blame the meds.
Yes! It had much more to do with how he self-administered them!
The worst part is that her daughter will never be able to truly celebrate her anniversary because it will just remind her of her mother's death. Not only the day, but the # of years, too!! Poor girl.
God, I didn't think of that. That's terribly sad
Anyone else in the Venn diagram with me of people who listen to STM and watch Real Housewives? Because I swear those Rhode Island ladies are wild. 😂 Apologies to anyone actually from RI because this is all I know.
Can we put “bill pottle” up there with “trashtic plasbags”? 😂 Love ya boys!
Lmfao Loved hearing Jimmie try with my name ! & Living in Rhode Island while finally able to have a shout out on a RI episode was even better 😁 thanks for all you do guys!
Huge breath at the end, thank God he went to jail forever!
It’s my first time hearing my name and paying for the membership is so worth it 😅
That many buspar would just make you so lightheaded and like you’re blood sugar is super low. Makes sense that his coordination is fucked out. Thanks for reminding me about Remeron, oddly excellent for insomnia and major depression disorder if anyone is curious.
2 things to never say to a car salesman: 1) get a total price, not what can you afford a month , because you'll end up paying double the overall price!! 2) never admit you have a trade in. They will offer you WAY over car's worth and tack on the difference to the the car you are buying. And sadly, it's legal. 😳
"Imagine you're playing dead, and you hear a circular saw." - Jimmie W. 😂😂😂
I accidentally screeched with laughter when he said that, and my neighbor now thinks I’ve lost my last marble
Rhode Island sober? Have y'all been to Wisconsin?
I just so happened to listen to the STM episode where Jimmy² FIRST talked about Ed Edwards (gov of LA) in a crazy early episode! #77 Tortured to Elvis out of Gretna, LA- and I'll be damned if they didnt say the exact same thing back then! (consistency is key boys) He was (in this episode anyways) an asshole ready to fry "a retard" (I dont want flak)...
This was an interesting one to me - it did a really good job of illustrating both the importance and limitations of mental health support. On one hand, he really did have genuine anxiety and anger issues, he was seeking treatment, and the treatment did help. On the other, he was also a selfish asshole completely independent of those issues, which ensured treatment couldn't be successful. I don't think I've ever seen such an obvious divide where the mental health issues stop and the personality issues start.
Once or twice a year you guys cover a really memorable piece-of shit-to-the-core, petty asshole. Here’s one haha. The one a year or two ago was that shitty neighbor who escalated everything….wish I remembered the episode number
I can’t remember the episode but I think it was in Michigan or Minnesota.
Hell yeah, love when my dudes cover Rhode Island. Having grown up in North Kingstown, I consider that entire state a suburb of Boston. Time to go on a trip!
I can’t keep track of these doctors. Dr Lion is my favorite lol
I worked in Cranston in the early 90s. I miss RI!
I tried looking this murder up for more pics but all that came up was for the STM episode! Y’all are so famous now! And to think that I knew you when 🥹😋 (I started listening in 2019, right before the pandemic)
Uh oh that’s panic
Love these guys. I heard you two on morh stories first then on corolla. I've been listening ever since.
I have really severe panic attacks without any clear stressor (internal) I will forevermore be referring to my panic attacks as “a royaling hellscape” and if anyone asks what it feels like I’ll ask them if they’ve ever ate an entire gallon of chili and then drank an entire keg of beer. 😅 you guys are the best
60 tablets of Klonopin?! My psych will only give me 10 Xanax/Ativan at a time 😂
ahhhhh the 90s. His Rx probably came with 6 refills too, as was standard.
It wont play... all other podcasts will but not this one
Same. It stopped at the 1:44 mark for me
Describing Cranston as a nice place with great people got me good 😂
The St Mary’s Feast has always been the best Italian festival. So yummy. I miss my little home state so much. I love when our guys do RI 👏🏾👏🏾
What about the Portugués La La?
I wondered what happened to Ed, Edd, and Eddie! 😝
Being from New Orleans and raised in the 80’s, Edwin Edwards was a big topic lol. Even though it isn’t about him, theres a cool book about his cousin, Frenchy Brouillette. It’s called “Mr New Orleans”. Check it out. The audio book is good also.
Were you in NOLA when he was running for governor after his trial etc. It was the Crook vs the KKK Grand Wizard. 🤔
"Denied. Dismissed. Affirmed. Get fucked." Should be your next t-shirt
I'd buy one!!
Awwww Dr. Fixman passed away very young (51)
Dr. Fixman is also Hava Nagila!
Ha
Around the 40 minute mark with the “apology” messages he left had me absolutely dying. Had to stop eating, I was laughing so hard. I love you guys. 😂
Muckle?? There's an old Scottish phrase "many a mickle makes a muckle", but that's got to do with money, and should actually be "pickle makes a muckle", as a mickle is also large. Huckle, on the other hand, is a word (of Scottish heritage, again) meaning to be physically rushed into police custody, and was particularly used in northeastern USA🏴 In case you were wondering ✌️😎
As someone who doesn't take the freeway (only in ohio due to horrible roads, insane drivers causing SO many fatalities locally, being in a bad hit and run on an overpass, and my own sanity) you can get anywhere haha I just drove to Columbus the back way and its only 15 minutes longer than the freeway. Getting to Cincinnati is tough though. When im out of state and have a rental, no roads bother me. Ive driven across the country 10 times. But fuck ohio lol
My home state from Providence
Muckle means tackle
I went to Zillow to check out the houses. My dudes! The half painted house is a disaster in housekeeping inside and one bedroom has a banner that says “I love sleeping, it’s like being dead without the commitment” They can’t commit to painting the house or picking up the towels from the bathroom but they sure can to sleeping. 🤣🤣🤣
Woot woot!
I live not too far from here. Thanks for the spotlight on Rhode Island 😁
How more New England can you get than saying "muckled"? I had a coworker from Connecticut I knew the moment you said muckled what it meant. LMAO! Because she used that word a lot.
This guy was misdiagnosed and was bipolar and wasn’t being properly medicated. Anger can be a result of mania and when someone bipolar takes just antidepressants with no stabilizer it pushes u into a mania All of this back and forth is still common today…mental health treatment is really bad and a lot of psychiatrists and facilities are trash and just want to drug u up and leave it at that. These meds are so rough to take and side effects and how you feel on them are terrible for some. Wanted to edit to be clear- I am not making an excuse for anything g he did at all HE IS A MONSTER to be clear…I’m just saying the doctors have a little bit of fault here for not taking it more seriously and locking him up (5150) before it got to the point of murder. TBH if I were the family of the victim I may have done some investigating and potentially go after any possible negligence.
How do you know he was bipolar? He sounds like a coercive control narcissist with major anger management issues. But I agree that he was not properly diagnosed and should probably not have been on any of the medications he was on,
As someone who has to commute to Cranston for work, can confirm there’s wayyyy too much construction and I’ve noticed nothing improving lol
Case in point: the Washington Bridge. (Providence here).
It is honest to god terrifying how many of the behaviours my ex ticks off in this episode! Yelling and calling me a whore cos a dude spoke to me - check! Yelling cos I wanted to go on a girls night - check! Throwing plates at the wall - check! He also added in: calling me a whore for hugging a male friend, then calling me a heartless bitch for not hugging THE SAME GUY a week later wtf....Got out before he progressed to hitting me (apart from punching me in the back cos I snored, which I somehow argue doesn't count....hmmm) but oooooh boy he was a real piece of shit!
Glad you got out! Your ex sounds like he was projecting...was most likely cheating. When someone aggressively accuses me of cheating (I barely have enough energy to talk to one person let alone multiple 😂) i end it cause they are most likely projecting and it tells me all I need to know.
This case hit different, I think because the perp actually felt the true weight of what he had done. I don't recall any other episodes in which this was the case. To get a glimpse of that was ...YIKES. It humanizes the bad guy and it turns out I am not a fan of humanizing bad guys 😬 (Yes yes I know we are all humans etc. ✌️❤️🌎)
Ohhhh, Brad….Your shit is ALL MUCKED OUT!!
Muckled: New England/American dialect term meaning to grab or latch onto something tightly They muckled the fuck outta him!!
Yayyyy!! Rhode Island finally gets a whole episode not express 😊 Love you guys!
Nagila!!!!!
Jimmie’s background “Nagila!” still kills me every time.
