Progress Update: 07/25/26

Hello everyone!

Been posting a lot on the Discord and realized I haven't made one out here in a while. So I decided to record one of my testing runs and talk about what I'm working on a little bit.

As a disclaimer, I really do work on whatever is requested or asked about the most. Only when I have a new idea I want to try do I ever sometimes go off on a tangent and do anything else.

That being said, this is not one of those times lol. A lot of people have been asking me for a long time now if there will ever be RCS functionality on things other than planters. One of the main reasons for the questions is strip till functionality. After a lot of trial and error, I now have the system working with other implements. Right now it's just cultivators, but the system can now be plugged into any work area type I want. This means adding more types of vehicles that can make rows without hitting performance will be pretty easy to add in.

And, real quick, the script itself is pretty lightweight. Where the performance hit comes from is the big gdm maps you need to get the precision required for the rows. In other words, when you run a RCS map, you're essentially running a mini 16X map. By mini, I mean the gdm files and a few of the layers are exactly the same as they would be for a stock 16X, but the rest of the map files are still normal sized. So not quite 16X but more performance heavy than default. Add the increased PF layer sizes required to get around the vanilla allocReg issue (which stock 16X maps have as well), that adds a bit more. Just wanted to clear that up.

Anyway, in this video I'm testing a row crop cultivator. This is Rooster Mod's 825 Row-Crop Cultivator from ModHub. You can find that here: John Deere 825 Row-Crop Cultivator by Rooster Mods. Working on the strip till side of things and will probably be adding some bonuses to this area as well. The functionality itself will be ready for testing very soon here. The AI is acting weird in this video, and I'm looking to see why that may be as well. The rest, though, is working pretty well from what I can see so far. Also messing a bit with the updated work area auto-correct code before uploading it.

The work area auto-correct is another new-ish feature. I had something like it before, but this one is way more accurate. It will replace the blinking "work area is messed up" type errors you see with current RCS. The RCS configs get their own and they are automatically calculated off the default ones. This means skewed or mis-aligned vanilla work areas should no longer matter.

From here I have some new PF Config features as well as some more auto-config type code to add. The goal is to make the system as plug-n-play as I can make it, and I have some ideas how more of that can be automated. At some point there will probably be an installer for maps, but not until I know what's left to have to do manually.

As far as UC/SC goes, I know I keep bringing it up but the RCS stuff is pretty much all I hear about on the Discord. That's why the heavy focus on this now. I can and will shift gears if enough speak up but, as I said, I literally do what I'm asked to do and right now this is it.

More updates to come, and I'll try to post out here more. I get answering questions and figuring out new ways to go about things and I'm talking away on Discord forgetting that a lot of you are out here wondering what's going on. Sorry about that, lol. I'll make a point to make more posts more often.

Later!
