The staff here are basically folks who stay cooped up in the research institute.

Well, just commuting to the research institute is decent exercise in itself, but while they might build stamina, they probably don't build much muscle—especially arm strength.

They don't have the strength to move dozens of boxes filled with containers packed with water and soil.

So, they'd been bringing them down to me from the top in order... but thanks to Teresa moving things around to help things go more efficiently, the boxes stacked nearly to the ceiling have been cleared out quite a bit.

Well... all we really did was sort them, and from here it's just moving on to the next task, but according to Fiora, the sorting was the tedious part, so it helped a lot.

The staff were organizing the contents of the sorted containers, and we were drinking tea while watching them.

"Fio-san, is it just me, or have we already finished what we came here to do today?"

The reason I came here today was because Fiora asked me to do some work for her.

Even though it was a lot of tedious work, she figured I'd get it done quickly... and well, I certainly did manage to finish it fast.

But, man, we really did finish it all.

Considering the amount of boxes that were stacked up, I thought it'd take at least a few days no matter how smoothly things went, but with Teresa joining in, the pace picked up all at once and we managed to clear everything.

The troublesome work at the research institute got done, so it's a good thing, but... I was wracking my brain over how to kill time for the rest of the afternoon when Fiora tilted her head and said, "Oh?"

"That was just organizing over there. It's a lot of work, and I asked you to do it first because I needed it done today, but there's still plenty more I'd like you to help with."

"Whether it's sorting or mixing, being able to see magic power through alchemy is a huge advantage. There's still no shortage of work for you."

Teresa looked over at me and smiled.

"Hmph... well then, it looks like I can kill time here for a while longer."

"Yes. I'll accompany you as well."

After saying that, Teresa straightened her expression and looked at me again.

"But... the staffing shortage here is quite something. Unlike inspections at the Adventurer Guild, the inspections and mixing here aren't something you can just leave to anyone. I understand it's not easy to increase staff, but wouldn't it be fine to hire people for simple tasks?"

"Yeah. Well... it's not like just anyone would work since there's the location issue too, but couldn't you ask the Merchant Guild or something to introduce someone?"

This research institute isn't easy to get to in the first place.

You have to be someone who can use the underground passage from the mansion or the city.

I get that they can't casually hire laborers like the Knight Order or Adventurer Guild can, but even so, there must be times when the staff here can't handle everything on their own, so wouldn't it be worth considering?

In response to our words, Fiora crossed her arms and looked up at the ceiling, murmuring, "That's true..."

She seems to be thinking it over.

Is it really that complicated...? As Teresa and I exchanged glances, a staff member spoke up quietly from the side.

"The people who work at this research institute aren't originally from Riana. We're limited to people we can trust, after all..."

"Ah... yeah, that makes sense."

"Without ill intent... even someone who just means to help tidy up could, depending on the circumstances, have a major effect on the results of various work. So we inevitably have to be cautious about letting outsiders in here."

"I see..."

The places where laborers from other organizations come and go are all places where being seen isn't a problem... but here, due to space limitations, that's difficult.

...Even if they do hire someone, they'll probably have to vet them thoroughly first.
