On the 18th of January 2023 I received an email from my most capable competition yet warning me of their imminent plans to be the first people to cross Wales in a completely straight line. There was only one thing for it; I had to beat them to it.
Join me in what I was desperately hoping would be my fourth AND final attempt at this gruelling feat of stealth and endurance, using all of my past experience to execute the perfect strategy over what was a very hazardous line.
Part 1 sees me tackle the farmland heavy first 8 miles before heading up into the steep and remote wilderness that would dominate the rest of the trip.
Will I be victorious? or am I destined to fall short once more?

For future endeavors, just keep the aspect ratio as 4:3 because the horizontal resolution still remains the same as with 16:9, the widescreen mode just crops the footage. If you record in 4:3 then you can crop it by yourself to 16:9 in post. But tbh, I prefer the wide angle 4:3 that has more info.
Yep this is the best and most flexible way. I think sensor ratio has changed on the very latest GoPro models but it’s only got even more square (8:7). I think also you’d maybe have some trouble if you wanted to end up at 4K, as you can’t do 4:3 at a resolution high enough that will give you a 16:9 4K crop, but 1080 is more than enough for these videos.

Just saw that "Tom Davis" was a guest on Sunday Brunch this morning, before I clocked the spelling I thought they'd gotten our GeoWizard on to talk about the straight line mission for a sec!
Hey Tom, you might be able to squeeze out a better video quality from YouTube if you export and upload at a larger resolution (1440p or even better 2160p) even if your source footage is only 1080p. YouTube just compresses 1080p too much.

I kind of miss the 4:3 style but if you are to go for 16:9, when you see you’re missing the upper part, you cap probably pan down the footage so to get the upper part of the clip more in frame?
100% agree with you on that. no disrespect to him tho but sometimes i’m left at just looking at grass when i wanna see size perspective of the cliff

4:3 i think would've worked better with some of the cliffs and angles with this line but whatever I think it looks great nonetheless and most people will like it more. but only 3 episodes makes me worried something happened...

A maximum of 31m south of the line and 17m max north of the line means you were always within 24m of a line 7m north of the one you plotted, so far. So, you're still platinum (again, so far).

Completing the mission at all is the only thing that matters I think. Going the distance. Winning the world championship. And, of course, being the first. There's always room for a platinum run in years to come if you wanted to prove it to yourself.
