Attempting to geo locate one of my earliest memories [The Lost Holidays #1 - North Wales '97]

Happy Friday evening $4 crew!

Here's a Geodetective with a twist for you.

Does anyone have a hazy childhood memory that they just can't geo locate? Maybe it was a holiday or a day trip somewhere. Maybe your parents know roughly where it was but you have never been able to actually find the exact place on google earth? I've got at least 3, and today I set about trying to find them once and for all.

We start things off (in what I thought was chronological order) in North Wales, trying to find the mythical establishment I have always believed to be "Jack's club". Scene of my dad's half-arsed attempt at winning the 1997 "best dad competition".

I'm hoping to release the other two episodes (which I'm currently recording) fortnightly from today, but it all depends on when the baby is born (due a week today!) I'll do my best! after that it will be back to the Patreon adventures.

Let me know what you thought of this down below. Have a top weekend everyone.

I managed to locate two childhood memories using a similar approach. Can't wait to see the other episodes from this mini-series :)

Yes I enjoyed it. I enjoy all your videos! This is my vibe I'm always looking at old maps including of places when I was a kid. Makes me sad to see how much things have changed but that's the inevitable march of time. Not sure if you have it in the UK but I Ireland we have a map with layers of original OSI maps from the 18th/19th century as well as satellite imagery from 1990s up until 2013. Lovely flicking through the layers, seeing buildings, roads and boundaries appear and disappear and what some of the old buildings used to be. There was a "widows refuge" around the corner from my granny's house

Tom you need to check out ballotguessr.com! It's only the US for now.. UK coming soon.. but it's a geoguesser-like game where you guess how far right/left the county voted last election

Enjoyed that a lot! Weirdly, I was actually doing this myself recently, using memories and a bit of help from AI to pinpoint a hotel my family used to go to in Northern France! Was a lot of fun! Looking forward to the next one 👍

We were literally just looking for a night away in Caernarfon for this week and then decided to watch your video which was about Caernarfon. Uncanny!!

Loved this! Tom it's such a kindness that you bring us along for the nostalgia and fondness that you have for things like music and memories. These are the things that make life rich. And closest thing we can get to sharing a pint with you from Ohio 😅 so excited for you and Verity!

Hi Tom. A little wish/suggestion for future potential collaberations. There are two guys going under the channel name Snagged Bro that do (mildly successful) angling videos in your neck of the woods and I think it would be very interesting if they could do a straight line mission that crosses a few potential fishing spots where they stop along the way. Would have been amazing if you could set up that line for them.

Awesome idea! Im lucky that we always holidayed in the same place so I know exactly where it was. Looking forward to the rest. Just one note, in Wales a single letter f has the phonics of an English v. So its pronounced Caernarvon!

Very different, thanks Tom. You are probs aware but you are sharing your gmail address in a few places in this video. Now, back to Drive to Survive :)

That was great Tom, very cool of that guy to respond and provide all that info, I think that and the email pretty much sealed it. Probably the "Jack's Night" was a recurring thing so you guys must have both experienced the same thing. Anyways looking forward to the next 2 episodes!

This video is very niche, but (with me at least) you’ve found the right audience. I too am very nostalgic. For songs, food, TV, movies, cars, toys basically anything from childhood. I’m addicted to finding them, I seek it out. I also have these vague memories of things and places like you so I really enjoyed this video. I don’t mean to speak to you like you’re an idiot but is there anything on Wikipedia about the place? Maybe you could go back on the Facebook group and ask the public for pictures, you just never know! Great video, can’t wait for the next one
