MAN VS BUS (Racing the local bus 8 miles to Nan's house)
**Watch in 4K and with subtitles**
Afternoon $4ers, wanted to get this out to you by Friday but the maps proved an absolute nightmare to make thanks to me losing the GPX data for the bus!
Some of the local buses round my way really do "go around the Wrekin" as the locals would put it. They're meander and take their time. So, Uncle Ed came up with the idea that we have a little race. Starting in my home city of Lichfield, Ed gets on the number 8 bus to the end of my Nan's street in Rushall, and I run the most direct route possible. Based on recent race times I was pretty sure I could run the 7.8 miles in the 57 minutes required, however with several busy junctions, two big hills and an overall uphill gradient for me to negotiate, this promised to be a really close race.
*Please excuse the strange looking camera effect on my chest cam. I didn't expect it to swing so much from side to side - what you see is a hell of a lot better than it was!*
SO WHAT'S NEXT? Well, this is effectively a warm up video for a much bigger and better $4 Tier video we'll be filming in two weeks called "MAN VS KAYAK" which involves me racing Ed (who's on a kayak) 15 miles through the countryside (no roads style!) - We can expect this in 4 weeks, but I'm going to get something else done for you before then too.
Isle of Man bonus footage coming tomorrow.

Classic GW this...
Lovely video Tom.
Cut the bit where you tampered with the bus mirror before it left eh? haha, well done.
aww your nan reminds me of my mum, what a lovely lady.
Nicely done! Got there faster and fitter!
This is so wholesome and fun. Great video Tom. Keep up the good work!
This is absolutely incredible. I can barely keep that pace for 5k, well done Tom!
God I love Uncle Ed 😍 Great vid guys
this is awesome and your nan looks lovely
Amazing effort Mr… Get In!! Xx
Great video Tom!
Cheers Parker!
Your Nan looks incredible for her age! Well done Tom.
Thanks Lyndsay!
Your video a while ago where you just went on a run in the country inspired me to start running (well, that and mad geezer Russ). I can currently do about 6:30 per km (but only 2 km, currently building my stamina). I can't even imagine how brutal 4:30 is, especially at that distance, against the wind and those hills... Great job!
Good on you Raymond. You'd be surprised how quick you'll be able to go without too much pain the fitter you get!
Wholesome, simple videos like this from you Tom always hit the spot. Wonderful. And bloody well done!
Thanks Hannah I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Love seeing my local area on your vids 😂
Cheers bab! my pleasure
well done mate all the best from NZ!
Cheers Ryun!
Cracking run. A true inspiration. I can do 3-4 miles at a low 7 min pace per mile, but with those hills and those junctions… not a chance for me. Love your videos! Having lived in the US now for 20 years it reminds me of my first 20 in the UK. Lovely jubbly.
That's still a fair old lick mate! Glad to have brought you some nostalgia. Cheers Stu!
Why does Patreon on my iPad say “browser doesn’t support full screen?” YouTube plays full screen but this won’t - so frustrating!
I have no idea! have you had any luck by opening it in YouTube?
Another cracker, buzzing for the kayak vids, from someone the other side of the Wrekin in shrews
Thanks Hugh that means a lot!
Great vid! Thanks Ed again for joining in the fun!
Thanks EJL we both appreciate it!
Brilliant stuff Tom. Living in Aldridge and working in Lichfield - so many familiar places :-)
wow two very familiar places indeed. Be sure to say hi if you bump into me!
4:13 pace is no mean feat over that kind of distance!! Cracking
Thanks Joe! I certainly felt it!
Man, you are such a beast. Congratz on beating the bus and thanks for the awesome video :)
Cheers Kafe glad you enjoyed it
Holy crap your grandma does NOT look 85. Good on her !
I shall pass this message on Maxxie!
Great Video! Impressive in every way. But you made a mistake. Your nan can hardly be 85. When she approached you, i thought "oh, His nan is quite young!" She looks 65 year old, seriously. This is so weird!
My grandpa is 89 and looks 24 years older than she does, not 4!
Top marks for the use of the wonderful West Mids phrase ‘going round the Wrekin’, you’re a great ambassador for our region!
Someone's got to keep the traditions goin ay they!
well done bud, hope to see more tom and ed videos.
You won't be disappointed by our next offering!
this sounds class, tom
Hope you enjoy mate
"This is the last you'll hear from me" *Continues to talk throughout* Can't escape the content creator in you now, Tom!
haha I know. I think those were the only times I talked though!
This is the kind of contoi signed up for. I don't have the mobility for a straight line mission, but racing a bus seems like something I could do, as my much as my wife is insisting otherwise.
hahaha do it! just don't get hit by the bus, else she'll have a point..
Currently in Sri Lanka about to watch this - perfect evening viewing!
Cheers Ryan, alright for some! hope it hit the spot.
Thanks Tom
Thank you Michael! hope you enjoyed
