Happy Holidays!
It's been a long, strange 2023 for us, and I just wanted to take a moment on this Christmas Eve Eve to wish everyone a happy holiday and to thank you for sticking around.
I know I've been quiet here over the last few months, but the early Starfield era has been.. well.. unexpected, and a lot of platform transition plans have had to be reconsidered and revised. We're still alive and working, though.
First, I'm making some progress in the PAST (Pack Attack: Starfield Troopers) project, even without an official release of Creation Kit for Starfield. We're still a long way from a working prototype yet, but most of the mod structure is built out, the PANPC scripts are stripped down and ported, and I now have a system correctly identifying area Spacers and applying the AI script.
That may not seem like a lot, but it is. That means I only have one or two significant stumbling blocks left before a working prototype, and I'm hoping to arrive at that stage in the next couple of weeks. Then it's the long haul of adapting the AI and running endless tests to try and convert the system for Starfield's very different combat gameplay.
About Fallout 4 and PANPC
My hope at the start of 2023 was that Starfield would launch, everyone would fall in love with it, there would be this mass mod migration over to it, roses in the streets and everybody happy. That didn't exactly happen. And like many other Bethesda modders, I've been reassessing what I want to do now going forward from here.
At this point I have no idea how things are going to ultimately shake out with Starfield. But I've always been more of a Fallout fan than a Bethesda fan, and so until Starfield does get its feet under itself, there is still a lot of work to do in Fallout 4 and I plan to keep doing it.
I'm working on maintenance updates to both PANPC and PACE and plan to have them out sometime next week. I've also recently finished minor updates to Tunable Radios and APC Home Update.
In the last few weeks, I've also released several PANPC compatibility patches, including ones for America Rising 2 and FGEP Definitive Edition. I look forward to continuing compatibility work in 2024. (I'm particularly looking forward to seeing Fallout London hit the streets!)
At any rate, that's what is happening right now at GreslinGames. I hope you're having a happy holiday season and are enjoying it in the festive style and good company that you prefer. Stay warm and well fed, wherever you are.
All my best,
- G.
