Early La Tène Celtic Ring

I'm sleepy today, so I'll keep it short this time.

It's a ring. This ring. The inspo came from pinterest; the pin claims it's a 5th c. BC piece, but that's all the info on it I have. Looks like the photo came from some auction which got deleted from the database by now. Anyway, it's very similar to a more famous ring from Rodenbach, also from the 5th century, so I have no problems accepting this one as belonging to the same century/era/style/stage/whatever you call it.

I meshed it solely because I liked the picture and felt like challenging myself in Blender a little. It was only months later that I learned that those kind of 'mask-faces' weren't really a thing among insular Celts and are typical of the Rheinland, or even Czech Republic and Slovakia. And of course the idea behind me meshing it was to make something my Iron Age GBSC characters could wear. Whoops! Then again, just that no rings like that have been found in Britain doesn't have to mean none were there - maybe we just haven't found them... yet. So I guess I'll end up bending the historical reality a bit ;)

It's made to fit the masculine frame, the middle finger of the right hand. I remember reading that Romans used all the fingers for wearing rings except for the middle one, with a comment that only Celtic barbarians did that. So that's where I put it. Apparently Celtic chieftains liked being able to show their middle fingers in style 😎

Almost 3K polycount, so rather high for such a small thing! However: 1) going lower was resulting in too big loss in quality; 2) it's still 4x less than the og mesh; 3) lower lods are much lighter. The texture is HQ and will look the best with the HQ mod, but I dare say it's still pretty even without it.

Hope you're going to love it as much as I do! It's detailed, it's 3D, it's bumpy, it's shiny - what else does one need? 😉
