Is there a way to make this blouse without using darts? I love the design, but I would like a more masculine shape for the blouse. Would starting with more boxy bodice block then slashing and spreading to add the extra fabric for gathering create a similar effect?

You can definitely add extra fullness at the neckline to a boxier shaped shirt pattern! Add slash lines (2 probably) from the neckline to the hem and add maybe 3-4 inches or so of flair. That's for each side of the front, imagining a half front pattern like I use.

You could definitely hide a few tricks up those sleeves! I love the poof, and your skirt in the outdoor footage is really pretty. I'm reading Sarah Bernhardt's autobiography and she mentioned the painter, J.L Gérôme whose depiction of fabric is stunning. The lady in his Veiled Circassian Beauty has on some fabric I could see you using.

Thank you Penny! That skirt is from the "verdigris" suit I made earlier in the year, which I'm glad to have more to wear with it!

Honestly beautiful! So unique! I envy your comfort wearing bold colors. I need to break free from black! Continued success and happy-sewing! Creative work saves me! You too? Everyone here I’ll bet🧵

Gorgeous blouses! As soon as I saw them in Arcana I thought "oooo Bianca has made some stunning blouses to mix and match....WOW look at the styling" I can see it made in chiffon (flocked or plain) and lace!!!

Thank you Alexandra! Chiffon would indeed be very pretty but it requires so much patience to sew 😂✨

Hi, Thank you for yet another chance to peek into your insight into designing and sewing. I have a question about how to make a blouse longer. You that enviable nipped in waist can get away with a waist long blouse. My straight up and down from the bust too the hip form think that a longer blouse will stay tucked in, or at least hide my mid section from the world would prefer a longer one. That being said I would still like to have shape to it, to at least try to look like I have a waist. How would you suggest I would go about using the kind of bodice block you do here, but keep going south of where your block stopes? I've been pondering this for a while now but haven't figured it out this far. I could probably go out and see if I can find a pattern of a blouse that shape, but here I am asking you first, if you'd be so kind? I'm not in any kind of hurry with this, as my next couple of garments are a deconstructed 1-hour dress (same shape but as a top and skirt) in linen and something from a dark blue cotton broderie d'Anglaise (?) with a simple viscose slip for modesty. A shaped blouse for that would be nice, and for the slip I already have an idea. You made one for one of your 1-hour dresses once. The projects are in preparation for a longer stay in the tropics, that will hopefully happen this winter. I also have a practice skirt made of jersey to make because I need one badly. I have you to thank for that inspiration too. I seem to remember you making a gored skirt from your A-line skirt block, that I will look for and "get inspired" by. Thank you, for giving me the feeling that I might actually be able to make something like those things. I would never have had the ideas if it weren't for you. Yours, Ann

Thank you Ann! For a longer blouse it depends on if you want to have it all in one piece, or to keep the waist seam and have a peplum sewn on to extend the length. For a longer shirt I usually tuck them in or wear a belt to cinch it in like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHHPYaa71nY but for a peplum top check out this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVywMU9Yg-A&t=1453s

I'm happy to see how you get the gathering only where you want it. I have always been unhappy with too much fabric around my waist when I try to get gathering in a blouse. Thank you

I feel like we are quite spoilt this month!! These blouses are absolutely stunning! I want to try and make one now, but my sewing list is already fully scheduled until next February, so it will have to wait (hopefully this means I'll catch any other pattern modifications you make!).

T
The Closet Historian · November 12, 2023

Thank you Amie! I know what having a packed sewing list is life for sure😂✨

The deep turquoise color is so pretty!! The use of rayon seam binding was a very nice finish too. These floofy, flowy blouses are just so lovely and versatile. I loved the red one you made last year too. The gold version would be pretty with very dark, crimson red for the holidays.

Thank you Jen! I think the gold is going to be super versatile for sure ✨
