Sneak Peek At Upcoming Costuming Project...
I grabbed some quick snaps from the studio tonight to show you what I have been up to the last few days! I'm working on the Whitby Gown, the black moiré late Victorian 1890's dress I sort of started on accident while making the Mandragora Gown. I made the mock up day bodice for that project in black moiré, and it came out very wearable indeed, so I'm finally getting around to making a matching moiré skirt and evening bodice to dub the black set the Whitby gown.
The home of Whitby jet, used extensively for Victorian mourning jewelry, and the shores where Dracula first set (fictional) foot on England, Whitby seemed a fitting name for this black gown. The evening version of the costume will be draped in dozens of silk flowers in muted shades of silk. I'll have a new flower making tutorial coming along to show how I've been making them this time around. I have a method I really like for roses, but I still need to try to perfect peonies, mums, and orchids as well I hope!
The gown will have some black "jet" embroidery and sequins going on naturally, but the flowers and a few silk bows will be providing the only color in this costume. We all know how I love to sew with black, and what is more summery than a giant gothic 1890's evening gown fit for a vampire right? 😅
Hopefully you aren't sick of me yet, as I'll be back with the updates podcast soon! Happy Monday ✨

I am SO EXCITED for this 🫨
Ohhh!! I'm so excited for this project! I recently finished a black moire Edwardian skirt that has 60 yards of green velvet ribbon trim (that 60 yards is not an exaggeration).
Whew that sounds excellent! 💚
Ooh I was just wondering today when you would do more 19th century sewing. Are you using a pattern you already have or did you find another pattern company you'll be trying?
I'm using the same patterns from making the Mandragora gown, but for all future eras/projects I will be drafting from scratch 😬 I'll mention the situation in the videos for sure!
😍😍😍😍😍 This is going to be gorgeous
Thank you Kenzie!
