Making A Burnished Brocade Dress ✨
Okay whoever had "first flight will get canceled" and "will catch a cold" on their B tries to travel bingo cards, cross those off. I'm making the most of my London trip however, even if the proximity to so many humans has attacked my sinuses! I have tested twice, both negative, for the big spicy cough. Thank goodness it's just a cold. I shall count myself very lucky and keep hitting the brisk streets of London to see what I can see. I have been wearing my masks indoors and on the tube, but germs are very persistent little buggers.
Thank you so much for your support! I can't wait to fill you all in some more soon!

Lovely dress. I too, love the fabric.
Thank you Julie!
You can go to the Schmetz website. They explain the needle types and what they are good for. The points are different as well as the shaft and the hole for the thread. The people at the shop where I bought my Baby Lock explained it all to me. Needles are quite fastinating.
Don't know if it has already been suggested, but I will usually go with a stretch needle when using things like lyrex brocades. The needle has a rounded tip, so it's more likely to push the threads aside rather than go through them. But really is a hit or miss. Sometimes it has worked great, other times it has made the problem even worse. 🤷🏼♀️
I will certainly try it! I need to have a needle testing session!
Hi, I hope that you're having a very good time in London, going around all the fabric and haberdashery places and hopefully the museums and galleries too. I hope that you've gotten over the cold you undoubtedly caught on the plane. That usually what happens to me, especially when I've gone across the ocean to N.Y to sing. The Dress turned out beautifully. I admit to be just a tad envious of your very lovely hourglass shape, as it makes the styles you make look so lovely. I wish I knew the trick of dressing my shape. That would make clothes shopping (and making) so much more enjoyable. You would look fabulous doing your book tour in that dress, by the way.. It's fabulous but still very "office" friendly. Yours, Ann
Thank you Ann!
Absolutely beautiful. Saw a cute cartoon of the characters from Wizard of Oz looking at the ground. Caption "Don't think we are looking at the yellow brick road." Allergies here in Southern Colorado are off the scales. Almost want to trade places. Much rather have a cold that severe allergy attack. Hope you have a speedy recovery.
Thank you Bobbie!
Thank you for showing the alternative method for drafting that neckline. I hope you feel better soon, and that you have a wonderful time in London.
Thank you Laurel!
Really stunning on you! Hope London was fab!
Thank you Jenny!
I found a beautiful sea foam green (with gold & beige) floral over on Minerva.com
Everything looks so pretty! Under certain lights, the fabric looks like the inside of a sea shell!
Thank you Penny! It definitely reminds me of undersea textures and light filtering through water 🤩
So amazing!!!!
Thank you Concetta!
Another beautiful creation. Envious in a good way!
Thank you Stephanie!
You are NOT the only one who’s finds it necessary to rejuvenate by finding a cat to cuddle and kiss!! After all … THEY have no compunctions walking across our keyboards during conference calls!! Gorgeous suit, I hope you’re enjoying London immensely!!
Thank you Debra!!
It is very elegant. Love the eye brow modification and your hair!!!
Thank you Thea!
That collar shape is lovely, and I always admire a sleeve that partially covers the hand.
Thank you Cheryl! I used this collar on a jacket recently and now I want to use it again and again!
I hope you feel better soon and that your cold doesn't damper your trip. This dress is gorgeous. I am so glad for the collar modification. I was having trouble trying to do this but after watching I am ready to try again.
Thank you Ateris! Luckily my cold proved to be mostly mild, mostly the stress of buying covid tests and worrying were the worst part of all 😬
