Dispatch no. 29 // Updates Podcast
Yes I was playing with a highlighter pen and keep snapping the cap as I rambled on, sorta about the terrifying prospect of dreams actually becoming fulfilled, and trying to understand the weirdly miraculous comfort of others giving them to you out of sheer kindness.

I am late to this podcast because... life. I am absolutely thrilled that you're coming to London. I understand your issues with social interactions, but I would dearly love to meet you for tea and caik.
Just a reminder that we all follow out of love for your art, talent, and passion for everything you make so I think we the fans are definitely getting more out of this deal! Very excited for you about London. Wave to my family in Scotland while you are there lol 🖤🖤🖤🏴🏴🏴
Thank you Karin! I wish I was doing more than waving to Scotland this trip, but I decided to focus this time on recharging my heart in London, but I love Scotland too!
London is my home town, although I now live in the Highlands of Scotland. I definitely took it all for granted growing up there! So happy for you - I think it's great that you have booked yourself a trip, very exciting 😀 I don't think you should worry about a meet up if it's going to stress you out - you want to totally enjoy your trip and if having that social stuff hanging over you will have a negative impact then don't do it (I speak as a fellow extreme introvert). Having videos and your reflections about your time in London is what we will all look forward to x
Thank you Kara! Both London and Scotland are gorgeous, so I'm jealous! I certainly look forward to visiting Scotland again too in in future, as I have only ever been to Edinburgh 💚
First of all, where is the recipe for this delicious sounding pecan crusted chicken dish? (I’ll go nose around the internet, no need to post it, but dang it made my mouth water!) Second of all, you work so so hard to put out wonderful content, you deserve (in my mind) even more support than you receive, so don’t undercut yourself or your effort. How thrilling to go to London! I can’t wait to see some of your favorite spots, but please take the time to celebrate yourself away from the camera too. You absolutely deserve to do things you enjoy.
Thank you! I have one of those lovely brains that says "you deserve nothing", "you are trash", you know the type 😅 so it's a constant battle over the anxiety talking 🙄 The pecan crusted chicken is a Hello Fresh recipe I learned and liked, mix half a cup panko breadcrumbs with 1/2 cup chopped/crushed pecans, add salt and pepper, some "fry seasoning" (garlic powder, onion powder and paprika I think?) and simply brush chicken with some sour cream then coat in topping, bake for 20 minutes on 425 and enjoy ✨
When you talked about coming to London next year I immediately was like " That's not far away! Let's ask her to meet!" and then all the fears you mentioned for yourself hit me. XD 'Cause I'd absolutely feel like that weird shy person myself. But I am so happy for you and the trip happening. London is such a wonderful city and I love it so much! <3
Thank you! It really is an amazing city 😍
I feel the same about London as you do; I’ve lived here now for over four years and still wander star-struck through the streets sometimes. The awe of such an ancient place, growing and changing like a living being over two thousand years, is immense. Plus, of course, it has some sweet museums! I hope you have a great time 😄 If you wanted to do a meet up, I’d love to come - but I also see why it might feel weird. I’ve run into a few of my favourite ‘celebrities’ (we’re not talking A-list here, haha), and it’s sometimes a little awkward after the initial excitement of ‘oh my god, I can’t believe it’s you! I love your work!’. But they’re all still fond memories to me :) At least we’d all have sewing in common to chat about!
I'm super jealous! Go say hello to The Wallace Collection museum for me and tell it I'm on my way 😭❤ I fear not living up to expectations, whatever they may be! Maybe everyone can assume I'm super awkward and then if I am only slightly awkward it can be a nice surprise 🤣
I know of two Edwardian era sewists in London and the London area. Bernadette Banner and Cathy Hay. Both have YouTube channels under their names and are both introverts and very shy. Cathy does do some teaching sporadically, and both wear late 1800's clothing all of the time. They could possibly meet up with you regarding growing your YouTube channel and getting more sponsorships to help you make more money, giving you more freedom to do what you want. They are both very shy and introverts. Cathy describes herself as Queer and Bernadette describes herself as Asexual. They are very good friends and it wouldn't hurt to ask. Cathy knows me by face and name so feel free to use it if you decide to get in contact with them. I think Bernadette has an Instagram channel, not sure about Cathy. Bernadette moved to London in the last year and a half and Cathy was born and raised in England. I am so happy that you booked the trip on a whim. If you had thought about it for very long, you may have talked yourself out of it!! LOL! Having something to look forward to is always fun and keeps the energy flowing! I hope that your plans for your new home come through the way you want. It's good to hear that a person in real-estate also thought the homes were a bargain. I am lookin g forward to hearing the plans as the dates get closer, both for the trip and the new house. I saw the drawings of the coming suit/dress and embroidery and it (they) look fantastic! Can't wait to see it all come together. When you move, please promise me you will take the 'blue table of doom' with you! I love it. Thanks for the update and see you next week!OOO
Thank you Peggy! Though not to be a total gossip...but Cathy and Bernadette are no longer friends and had a large falling out. I of course don't know either of them, or the details, but it doesn't seem Bernadette likes to be associated with Cathy anymore. I would never reach out to such large creators (or uh, anyone) becuase I don't like to feel a bother. The historic costuming community at large has always seemed a bit clique-ish, and I am certainly not cool enough to be invited in 😂 As for the blue patterning table, I would want to upgrade to something more alethically pleasing, but at this point I almost can't since it's a "thing" ha! Maybe I can find a cuter giant blue table, or stain butcher block counters blue 😅💙
That is the best reason for a trip - to celebrate your life and how you have grown. Your trip is for you, not for others/us. Enjoy. I totally understand your feelings about meeting strangers, and the absolute terror that that brings.
Agree with travel plans before property commitment. Have a wonderful trip, and have fun. Looking forward to seeing your video diary of the trip.
Thank you Marie!
Id be so game for a london meet, a picnic with optional museum stroll in one of the free museums maybe? Youd probably have to check depending on group size that theyre cool with it and Im more than happy to help with any organising logistics if it helps take some of the worries away! However, also totally understand if you just want it to be a *you* holiday, because thats also totally fine. Your guilt at the end deffo sinds like the stereotypical millenial "dont jinx it, waiting for the other shoe to drop" doom we all seem to have lol.
The "surely something is about to fall apart tho?" mentality is very strong 😅❤
Congrats on the London trip! You totally deserve it. I loved it when I was there (and Edinburgh 🏴) in 2018. And I totally understand the feeling about museums and old things, so much so that I went into museum work lol. And, as some unsolicited advice about the meet up idea, if it'll stress you out to do it, and if it will take away from your enjoyment of the trip, don't do it. Your trip is for you, not for us.
Thank you Chae ❤ It's more baffling becuase it's hard for me to understand why people would actually /want/ to meet awkward little me 😅
If anything, try something like a play or other cultural activity like a museum for a meet up.
You are making the vacation possible. We enjoy watching the fabulous content you create, but it's you making everything happen. I am amazed at the pace you are able to keep for creating videos and garments. It is such a pleasure to see you enjoying your success. You deserve it and earned it.
Thank you Laura! It just feels unfair I get to make art as my job, I'm so lucky ❤
There are a lot of aging and affordable Victorian homes (like less than 100k) in the historic zip codes of 62025 and 62002. I'm thrilled you get to travel and go back to London. I wish you much success. It is too bad Mood, Silk Barron, or some scissor manufacturers etc. don't sponsor you. Appropriate sponsors so you don't have to sling glasses and VPNs could make your dreams much more attainable. Your content has brought a lot of happiness to a lot of people.
Thank you Michael! I am happy to be patient and go without commercial sponsorships, slow and steady wins the Victorian house of her dreams, or however the saying goes...I hope!
You deserve to go on a trip to London. You work really hard. Don't forget to schedule some quiet time. Maybe it'll be a good place to write.
Thank you Melissa! I'm going to try and be good and leave a few days with nothing particular on my schedule 😅
I live in the UK and London is also my most favourite place in the world, but I've been to New York once and I have similar feelings about going back there. I'd love to do a road trip around the USA perhaps ending up in New York. Ahh - just a dream at the moment. On another subject I'm in year 14 of a renovation which in hindsight I wouldn't have touched with a barge pole so don't forget to at least double all your estimated time frames and costs. I think meeting up would be amazing from your patrons point of view but please don't put yourself under pressure and spoil your holiday. XX
Thank you Diana ❤ I have never been to New York city as an adult, but my 13 year old self thought it "very dirty" 😂 Now I just want to go to the MET museum for a whole week as I'm sure I would love it there!
You need gargoyles for your future house to protect you.
Factual ✨🧛♀️🦇
This is all wonderful! I can't wait for the Halloween projects. You definitely shouldn't feel bad for wanting to go back to London. I feel the same way about Edinburgh, so much that I moved myself here. London really does have the most fantastic museums and I really need to get back down to see them myself.
Many Halloween projects coming up!! Edinburgh is gorgeous and I would LOVE to move there someday 😍💚
I'm so glad you've got these things coming to reality! I remember a couple years ago in my life when all of the sudden my hard work and luck started to come together and feeling like I was on a realistic path. And 100% you don't owe us a meet-up. Take time and think about if you can do it safely and especially if you *want* to do it. Lastly, lol, remember, we aren't just helping you out of the kindness of our hearts, but because you are incredibly talented and create amazing content that has changed my approach to sewing and entertained me immensely along the way. Plus great kitten stories.
Thank you Margaret ❤ The kittens are here next to me as I type, sleeping and being cute ✨ It says something about me I'm sure that my dreams coming into reality makes me nervous rather than fully excited I'm sure 😅
Congratulations on your London trip! I love London, too, and keep trying to get back there for a few weeks--but pandemic and other things. If meeting up with people would add stress that takes some of the joy out of your trip, don't do it. You don't have to do everything all at once. But if you think a little afternoon tea, planned by someone else at a nice public place might be fun...
Thank you Laney! London truly is my happy place, so it would be hard to bring me down there for sure ❤
You are such a jewel and I send you well wishes continuously. I'm so glad you are feeling celebrator- ial - I freely and openly support you and give you permission to enjoy yourself. Hope that helps 🤷🏽
Thank you Michelle 💜 I will try to banish the nervous side and embrace the celebratory side 😅
Go for it! Go for all of it: London🎡, a house of your own 🏠 with cats🐱live your life as you want it. And every once in a while do a little step out of your comfort zone and meet some people. Only a few, that will be enough 😘😘
Thank you Diana! You get me 😂❤
Would happily meet for coffee... but have done tweet-up type things before. Public place, daytime, place where it's easy to get away are all good ideas... the V&A springs to mind. And only make a plan for 20 minutes, so no pressure.
The V&A courtyard garden thing perhaps! I'm starting to try and build up the courage now months out 😅❤
I'm 40 all of sudden over here and let me tell ya, don't waste your life feeling guilty or embarrassed. "In a society that profits from your self doubt, liking yourself is a rebellious act" :)
Thank you Allison ❤
This podcast warmed my heart so much. I'm ten years older and have a lot of similar feelings about being able to have bought a house a few years ago (I'd describe my decorating style as part dark academia, part decay chic), and being able to do a huge European trip a few years before that. I didn't even do the photo of the 'sold' house sign because I had so much guilt my sister's have not been as lucky as I have. I'm a social worker and work damn hard, but I'm very conscious of how much luck and the random acts of others contributes to life outcomes. Hearing you are able to make your dreams come true is honestly lovely to hear, and lovelier to be a part of. You probably don't understand how much you give to everyone here. I can only speak for myself, but you have literally taught me how to sew, and it now brings me so much joy (though still producing iffy quality at best!). It is also my meditation and quiet space, which is helpful because I've never been able to manage actual meditation due to past trauma. I guess I am just saying that while you thank us for the gift, you are literally the hardest working YouTuber on the planet, and have freely provided many gifts we are also grateful for. So than you Bianca. This conversation has also reminded me of Amanda Palmer's book and ted talk, The Art of Giving.
I second this exact emotion
Fellow introvert here. If you have any misgivings at all about meetup, don’t do it. You don’t owe us anything for our support except your fab videos. We support you for those. Looking forward to the London content. A city I loved too.
Thank you so much ❤️ I can't wait to film my favorite London spots 🏰
I’m so happy fore you that you get to go to Londen. Sadly I’m not living in Britain but see a met up as of course they come to meet and spend time with you. But they also meet each other and no one knows what friendships and support can come out of the meeting.
Thank you Anna-Lise ❤️
We will have a meet up for you. We will all get together for a vintage picnic - you can stand a mile away with binoculars, check us out then decide whether you want to casually stumble across us or not. We will be fine either way. Xxx All food from Waitrose.....
This is hilarious 😂 I am not worthy 🤣❤️
I am I tears listening to you. I miss the feeling, the history, the food, the palaces, the museums. We just cannot afford to live in the UK any more.
I dearly wish I could afford to move there, but oh the prices are not kind 😬
You said rigamarole! I thought my Mom and I were the only ones who use that word. Congratulations on these exciting developments! Old dreams are taking shape and, no doubt, new ones have begun to take flight. I am happy for you, Bianca! Maybe the museums would be best experienced alone. I know I like to commit to old objects and selfishly experience them with that spiritual quality you spoke of and without distraction. (I'd be terrible on a group tour!) I'm sure all of your patrons would love to one day meet you in person, but we know that this is your show and you need to do what is comfy to you. I am always so amazed by your creativity and your way with words, your choice of colours and playfulness. I wouldn't want to do anything to put out that creative flame. I am happy to help keep putting another (albeit small) log on the fire to help support you! If you do meet up with some folks, I have a feeling you will enjoy it. You've got friends here. Thank you for sharing so much with us all!
Thank you so much Penny ❤️ Yes I love a museum alone, all the time with the objects I am attracted to most and none where I am less engaged 😅😂
What time of year will you be in London? I loved London. And as a business person, think of the trip as ‘content’. It is a good investment- especially if you make clothes to go, or visit places like the V&A that have the clothes and jewelry etc that will make great videos. You shouldn’t take all your time just filming videos, but if you make a couple, then write off the whole trip!!
Thanks Thea! 💚 I'll be going in April, as I want to get back and go house hunting before next summer 😬😅
A London meet-up would be phenomenal! You would probably be in the company of other introverted, nerdy sewists, too. :). Best of luck on your house search. So excited for you!
Thank you Kelly!
In the neighborhood where I grew up there was a woman who had an old stone house that kind of looked like a castle and she went all out every Halloween. Elaborate costumes and lighting and decorations, and she gave out king size candy bars. I was slightly terrified of that house as a kid but now as an adult I realize she was the coolest ever. Yay for travel and yay for home buying! Alas I am not in London but if you want an introverted queer sewing friend when you eventually move to the northeast, I'm around! (But also I totally get the internet stranger danger thing so no worries if not)
This woman sounds like my idol ✨🏰 A Northeastern picnic or meetup at an antique fair may be a future thing perhaps!
Amazing news about your trip!! With meet-ups do whatever is most comfortable for you; you still need to enjoy yourself and have a good time! And if it is something you want to do maybe there’s things that are less intense, like a meet-up at a museum to wander around together? Hope you have fun planning all the things you want to do!
Thank you Lynz! A picnic at the V&A doesn't sound so scary I suppose 😅
God, I want to go to London now. The last time I was there was in 2016 and I didn't get to spend nearly enough time there. That was a great impulse buy. The great thing about a group meet-up is that everyone can entertain each other; you aren't obligated to entertain, you can just hang out.
There is never enough time in London, for there is so much to see! 💚
"Overwhelmed and yet unproductive" well there's a mood right there!
London meetup!! May I suggest Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium? :p Terrifying ideas aside, you 100% deserve this trip and your Victorian hosue and your dozen cats and/or a partner. Don't feel guilty about your success, you work very hard for it.
Thank you Dee ❤️ I'll have to look into this Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium!
