Not An Audio Update // Notes From The Road

So I was planning to record the updates podcast on Saturday. My friend who joined me for a few days of the trip was going home in the morning, and I was just going to do a little bit of vintage shopping in Hollywood and Burbank and then work a bit back at the hotel.

Except my mom called me just after I dropped my friend off at the airport and let me know my little best buddy Cleo had past away that morning. She was with her all night long and as she died. Of course, I fell apart, and I was the girl sobbing in the Starbucks parking lot beside the airport at 9am.

After a while I managed to stop crying, which was a feat in itself, and drove to the vintage shops in Burbank I had wanted to visit, and I blocked off my heart, numbed the truth for several hours. There was nothing I could do, for her, or for me to make it hurt any less, but I could check the little boxes on my little travel itinerary because it was something to keep me moving. Until I got back to my hotel room in Pasadena and ugly cried for three hours because my little kitty is gone.

Even typing this much has tears rolling down my face, so I certainly can't talk about it yet. She was my best little buddy, my familiar in many ways, who followed me around the house and was constantly by my side. She died without me there beside her and I'll never get to kiss her little head again or pet her tiny paws and honestly it's still too much.

But I'm on this giant trip, an amazing trip, one I planned before she even seemed sick, long before I knew she was. She faded fast, too fast for me to get back to her in time.

So I am compartmentalizing the crap out of the daylight hours. I can still marvel at the Huntington Gardens in Pasadena, enjoy my tasty dinner at the cool hotel in Vegas, and appreciate the Grand Canyon's north rim at sunset, as long as I don't let myself think about how my Cleo won't be there to greet me when I get home.

So I would very much like to record this month's podcast, but I couldn't tonight, and it is already the 29th! I am going to try and record a video podcast/vlog thing tomorrow and get it up before September officially ends, but it will be unedited of course, as I am still on the road. Thank you so much for your support, now and always.

I'm just a little too broken just now to fulfil all of my promises, but I'll do my darndest to make it up to you asap.

-Bianca

There are some cats that are extraordinary at interacting with humans - Cleo clearly was. It's ok to miss her - you always will - these are the things that make life. Thank you for toughing things out to get those videos and updates out regardless - that is a testament to You. You are a good one.

I am so sorry about Cleo. My own fur baby Pluie passed over 2 years ago now and I still get teary-eyed thinking of her sometimes. It just doesn't seem fair we get these perfect little companions for so short a time. I hope your heart finds some peace in all of your sweet memories of her.

Hi, Dear Bianca, My sincere condolences on your bereavement. I want to join with all the other voices in letting you know that you don't need to make a lot of content, and that we will be here and on the channel when you need us. And that you can call on us for our support in any way you need and want. I'm sure that there are no words at this moment that won't sound trite, and taste like ashes, so I will offer no others than I liked you the first time I saw your channel, I ran up to Patreon you, and see no reason for that to end. You're a fine sewer, a great pedagog, and I think an even better person. Take your time living, drive safe, and get the time you need. I'll be here. And I think, by the look of things, that the all the others will be here too. Yours in friendship, Ann (Sweden)

Hugs. I am sure you gave Cleo a good life and lots of love. Cleo would want you to enjoy your trip. Mourning her loss when you have returned home will be a healing process. In the mean time enjoy your trip and when you think of Cleo remember the joy you had together. Those moments of joy and love will stay with you forever. Look after yourself. You are loved.

Take your time on this, if you rush now it could end up spilling out else where. You are doing what you can and carrying on with your trip is a good thing, deal with getting back home when you get home. Maybe (if you can) find a place with an awesome view and in your mind bring Cleo with you, talk to her show her what you see. Tell her you love her and that she will always be with you and the place you find to do this will be your special place. Maybe even leave a little mark somewhere or a stone to commemorate this moment. Take care and take your time x

Losing a pet is like losing a body part; something is missing and because of that getting on with living is made so difficult to do. I am sending love and hugs your way. I cried until I had no more tears left when our pets died. I set aside time each day to just allow myself to feel the grief and cry. That kept me from spending the whole day crying. I'm glad you are still on your trip and allowing yourself to enjoy the things you wanted to do. So happy for you that your friend spent that time with you as well. Hugs

I'm so sorry Bianca. Losing pets really sucks.

C
Catherine Rowley-Williams · September 30, 2021

Oh Bianca lovely, I'm crying while typing this. I too know what it's like to have a cat companion you loved for what seems like half your life fade too fast (my darling Tilly was 18, and went from being herself to saying goodbye in a fortnight). If it's any consolation, it was probably much easier for Cleo to fade so fast, instead of having months of trips back and forth to the vet, pokings, proddings and pill-givings. I know this probably doesn't help now, but it may in the future. Also, there is never a wrong time to find another cat who needs you (I registered with the local shelter straight away, thinking that it might take ages to get the home check set up etc.). Emailed Friday, they asked me to come to the shelter Saturday, said "we've got these black kittens who've been overlooked because they are black, they need a home", took them home Sunday. Yes it was fast, but helped my house feel less empty. Again, sending much love and hugs, hope you do manage to find some joy in your trip, if only from the awesome wild places you've already shared.
