Making a Riding Ready Vest // Safari Vest & a Different Yoke
I actually needed to make something with pockets, the rarest of occurrences has struck! This month's video is coming out a bit early since I'm about to head out on the road, and before I could set out, destiny required a vest with pockets. Will the other folks be in northface jackets or hiking gear? Probably, but I'll be wearing this safari style vest, because hey...it's me.
My other vest video I mention : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CChEo92jss

I am in love the vest. The pockets did it for me.
Do you show how you do that little notched collar situation in another video? I don’t see that part in this video and I would like to see how you do that in the pattern drafting process. I tried doing one using an old sewing book but I think I messed up a step and you always distill things down into digestible chunks for my wittle brain. Anyhoo. Collar video please!
I saw you instagramstory and I am sorry to hear of your loss. I was just wondering if something is possible. I love your work and have rewatched your videos several times, both here and on the main channel, Here on patreon i miss not having a list of you videos, and thereby not have to scroll down down down to find the video I am looking for. I don´t know if patreon allows it, but is it possible to have a sidebar with links? Or some other sollution. I know you gathered up all the sowing videos of 2019 (i guess) in one post, which was nice, but as time and the number of posts here go up.... makes it hard to find
Thank you Dalana ❤ I don't think there is a way for me to edit the layout here on Patreon to include things like sidebars and such unfortunately, but the post pinned to the top of my feed here should have most of the videos for all of 2020 and most of 2021. I forget to updates it sometimes, but it should only ever be a couple of months behind hopefully 😅 https://www.patreon.com/posts/links-to-all-42604656
Big hugs to you about Cleo - our animals are really our soul mates. I would LOVE to see a recreation of the jacket Cruella wore in the final scene of the movie. Spectacular !!!!!!!! Enjoy your trip - safe travels
Such a great video - thank you for the bonus connected shoulder yoke! I am new to the Patreon but have been watching every one of your videos on YouTube and have been so inspired! I’d suggest you mention on the free videos that there’s bonus pattern drafting videos on Patreon because I was unaware and had started watching reruns. 😂 Anyway, I figured it out and I’m here now. For suggestions of future video topics, I have been wondering about some of the vintage dresses where the waist seams darts are also incorporated into a giant gathered front piece (like Vogue S-4781). Have you done that already? Personally, I do not mind when you repeat techniques and patterns - the repetition helps the concepts stick in my brain and I love seeing how the different textiles/surface designs influence the finished garment. I’m in the Mt Washington neighborhood of LA (near Pasadena, but closer to downtown LA) if you need any suggestions from a fellow sewist and vintage-curious person. For example, you might enjoy a quick tour of the Heritage Square museum. https://heritagesquare.org/visit Hope you have an exciting journey and return refreshed and inspired.
Dearest Bianca, you are leaving tomorrow for an exciting adventure!!! Enjoy. Sending hugs & love to you & Cleo!!! Alice & Spencer
Love that outfit! Looks stunning. I wore jodhpurs in the early 80s and not a horse in sight. I just loved them ( one pair was white) and a great look when you had slightly larger thighs and a rounded butt. Makes me want to make them again😁
That outfit is adorable! And the "forest" of Endor can be visited?!! (I might have just have had a little nerd moment...or maybe a big one).
Bianca, Firstly - I would really love to watch you make ladies blouses based on the ones from the black and white “The Women” movie. So many iconic sleeves in there: Bishop sleeves, little sleeves that made bows, cap sleeves etc. My dream is for you to remake the amazing color block outfit the main character wears with the super wide belt. Secondly, it sounded like all through out this video, at the end of a lot of sentences you tightened your throat to what almost sounded like a Gollum type noise. Were you aware? It seemed like a lot of them could have been edited out, as they came after you had finished speaking. I don’t remember you doing this in previous videos, so I assume it was extra pressure on you to finish the voice overs. Thirdly: 4 times I ended up alone in LA, and I chose to walk to the Huntington Library for the gardens but also for the incredible museum parts. I was completely captivated. The Norton Simon is also really amazing. If you have time, do try to get to LACMA! Fourthly: do you think The Way We Wore - the vintage store run by Delores Raymond, featured on the Smithsonian channel - who started her own You Tube channel, might be open to appointment for you to visit? It is soooooooo worth going to Northern California - you can visit where they filmed the high speed forest chase from Star Wars Episode VI - Endor: https://www.touropia.com/discover-redwood-national-park-california/
HI, Thank you for taking time an patience to make this video. How interesting to see you make pockets, and the shirt too. I liked the whole look, but maybe except the shoes. They remind me to much of my mother's ski boots that I wore whenever there was some cross-country skiing required, when I was a whole lot younger than I am today. The point here is that I hate skiing because you do it in the coldest and darkest of winter. I do not like to get cold, and the only positive thing about the dark is that you might ge to see the some amazing starry skys, and once in a while the aurora borealis. So don't mind me and my boot aversion. The vest came out beautiful I think, and so did your blouse. I whish you a safe and exiting journey. And of course I hope that Cleo will recover and that you may have many more snuggles ahead of you. Yours, Ann
That's funny, Ann, I think being outside on a cold, winter's night is wonderful and you have the treat of coming in and warming up by a fire with a hot chocolate. I'm impressed your Mom's ski boots looked this nice. My Dad was big into cross country skiing and his boots were ugly!! Bianca's boots are cute, I like the laces and they probably have good grips. Hopefully your feet don't get too warm in them. I could see them looking cute with jeans and a plaid Pendleton 49er jacket. The boots actually reminded me of those brown, Cougar lace-up winter boots that were popular in the 80s. They had a bright red lining which I liked. It's fun, the memories that pop up when we see these sewing adventures!
I love how your vest turned out! Very practical and cute. I would suggest you do a video on different kinds of zippers and tips for zipper closures. I always have trouble with zippers and you have a wonderful way of explaining things that makes it easy for me to understand :)
I don't have any recommendations for pattern drafting, but I do for spending time with a leaky cat. I can't recommend puppy training pads highly enough. I've used them with multiple cats with urinary incontinence.
Simply marvelous riding ensemble! Can't wait to see the video of your trip. Have a wonderful time. Hugs to you & Cleo.
This has come out amazingly! I think it would be really interesting to see you follow some victorian or edwardian drafting and compare it to modern methods for your next lot of costuming shenanigans. It would be really interesting to see your take on it all!
First off this outfit is adorable. I hope you have a grand adventure on your trip. But I would some how tack down or sew down the bottom side of the pocket flaps. They could inadvertantly get hooked over the saddle horn. I have seen it happen with the kangaroo pocket of a hoody or a belt w0orn too loosely. It is very dangerous. A 49'er make video would be great. You do need a trip to the Pacific Northwest. 😀
This vest is adorable!! I love it with the jodhpurs, and what a great way to circumvent not being able to take a bag. The prospect of a 49ers coat video is also very exciting! I hope your trip is filled with more fun than stress, and that you make lots of good memories. I'm so sorry to hear about Cleo, and I wish I had anything useful to say, but hope it is some comfort to know that people around the world are thinking of the two of you.
enjoyed watching you make this and your commentary, as usual. it truly did look super professionally done and finished.
"Assuming that your bosom thrills at the enticing prospect of becoming a jodhpur gazer, this is how you do it. First, you announce that you have taken up horseback riding. Then you take it up. You go to the riding academy, where the proprietor, wearing jodhpurs, will wait upon you. After you have gazed your fill at the jodhpurs, you ride the horse. Then you return to the riding stables and gaze further at the jodhpurs. You have thus become a novitiate of the order of jodhpur gazers, an experience that you can repeat every time you essay to ride the horse.” I found this article a few months ago in a Spokane newspaper from 1932.😅 Happy trails to you, Bianca! 🐴❤️
