Early Access // This Week's Video
This week on the channel we'll be taking a look at Montgomery Wards Spring Summer 1941!
Scanning this catalog was SO MUCH EASIER with the new giant scanner (more on that new buddy soon)! I have a Spiegel catalog I want to scan and flip through for you all here on Patreon soon too, so that will be coming sometime this month as well.
Thank you so much for your support!

I think Miss L Fire USA and Rocket Original Shoes have more appropriately sized peep toes. And there's always hunting for a second had pair of Ritas from American Duchess.
Thanks Chae! Sadly I am just too picky 😅 The closest shoe on offer to what I'm after is probably the Myrna from Remix but even they aren't as "basic" as I'm looking for grrrr
Love these clothes! Thanks for the videos and for sharing the catalogs. Such escapism! I really needed this!
This is the closest peep toe I can think of: https://memery.co.uk/collections/1950s-shoes/products/50s-peep-toe-vintage-style-in-suede-red
Thank you for continuing to create these catalog videos! Not only is it great to see the gorgeous clothes, but as a historian, it’s exciting to see what people were actually wearing. Can’t wait to see more!
Peep toe shoes. Do you mean this kind of thing? https://www.jakeshoes.co.uk/flv132-diamante-peep-toe-heels-in-black-satin-flv132-ptoe-dmnt Also loved " I love me a dress with a hood". So many things in this video made me laugh. I learned a lot too. Thank you
Issue with modern "peep" toe shoes is that they display much more than just a peep! Vintage style peep toe shoes had a MUCH smaller opening, only just barely showing maybe one toe - probably because you were meant to wear hose with them. Wouldn't want to have people see your hose stretched over your toe, or horror of horrors, the seam!
I'm gonna wait to watch this on You Tube, otherwise it keeps recommending it to me as unwatched 😤 but I'm excited!
I so appreciate these Catalog videos and it's really heart-warming to see someone who wants to preserve these sources and make them available for everyone. Thank you! Your scanner produces excellent quality images, what a great idea you had to invest in it and I look forward to seeing more of these flip-thrus. Practically every page of this would make a perfect jigsaw puzzle. I'd have to start with the shoes and then the fabrics, I love the small prints and the subtle colours of that era. In old movies, one never knows what colour the clothes were, but this gives an idea. I loved this romp so much and I also loved Peggy's comment. Such nice words!
BRING THOSE SHOES BACK!! The heels, not the saddle shoes. Thinking about them is painful to me. Took forever for them to break in on me! The wide leg pants remind me of Kathrine Hepburn. My Mother always wore those long line swimsuits and Lands End sells the swim skirts now! I was born in 1952, and many of these fashions look so familiar as my Mother wore so many of them. She kept dresses, skirts, shoes forever!! She was an excellent sewist and loved those patterns, so she just kept making them over and over. When she died in 2007, she still had a pair of the peep toe shoes like the ones in that catalogue. My sister, unfortunately died suddenly in 2009 and I was given those shoes and I still have them. It's a wonder what those things meant to us. Our Mother looked so pretty in her dresses and shoes, with a purse, hat and gloves that matched. She also matched her lipstick with her nail color. Thank you for this video. It brought such great memories back to me. She and I had a love of hats with the veiling. I can't find any soft veiling anymore. Do you have a source that sells the soft stuff? It's all so stiff now and very scratchy. Thanks again.
That was thoroughly enjoyable.
Maybe it's a carry-over from work, but I love a big, good quality scanner.
Question: Could you do some transformations inspired by the catalog? Because some models are worth repeating. In the same way that you did with the book, only the transformation made in Muslin (of course after your vacation). I can't access the catalog with the Link on Youtube, has anyone else had the same problem?
It's possible the Pinterest link won't work yet because the board will be "secret" until the video goes live for everyone on Thursday. I could certainly show how to draft some of these designs, but would love to know which ones in particular people are most interested in! ✨
