Making a Wrap Dress // New Pattern

Hellooo! Finally this video is exported, uploaded, and in the clear! I hope you enjoy seeing these simple modifications to turn the basic all in one sleeve block into a wrap dress version. I know I am excited to use this pattern again in the future, I'd love to have a solid black linen version of this dress for sure ❤

Hello! I used your procedure to make an all in one. I am a DDD bust, and when I created the all in one block my sleeves were absolutely huge! Do you have an alternative or suggestion on how to make an all in one for larger busts? Thank you!

Hi Jeanette! I'm a plus sized C/D and I had the same problem with the all-in-one. I found the best solution was to leave the armhole (the curve). Bianca says to lower it. Every time I tried that it was a disaster. Leaving it at the original height was made it perfect. My front sleeve is wider than the back, but once sewn together it works. Hope this helps.

Hi, I have just joined you on Patreon and loving looking at your back catalogue of videos. I have a basic block which you are now inspiring me to get out and do more with. I love that you show us every step of the way and all that is involved. Thank you so much.

It’s so hard to see the pencil marks

What a pity that mock up fabric was a quilting fabric rather than an apparel fabric. It was so pretty and looked really fabulous on you. The finished dress is lovely too.

Thank you Michele! I love toiles but they are so hard to find in apparel weight fabrics!

If you don't have a blue patterning table of doom, you should get one....LOL! That was great. I did just get a new one, but mine is white. You inspired me to redo my sewing room, so thank you! Your fabric choices are the best.

Thank you Kimberly! Congrats on the updated space, it's so helpful to have a refreshed work area!

Thank you for sharing. I always learn something new each time I watch your videos. I've been searching for your circle skirt tutorial on you tube and can't seem to find it. I wonder if you could perhaps share that tutorial on here? I loved the way you modified the seam for the zipper! BTW, today my sewing machine has decided to go out in sympathy with yours.....the tension is just doing its own thing. Stay safe and sending best wishes to you and yours from Down Under. <3

Thank you Rhonda! The circle skirt pattern tutorial is in my tropical 50s dress video in here https://youtu.be/Blp_iojX-TY?t=1399 and I'm also going to be releasing a circle skirt tutorial over on the channel this week too. so lots of circle skirt info will be available shortly :)

Really enjoyed this video and the dress design. Very flattering for many figures I think. The fabric was cute but not cutsie . Hopefully, I communicated that well....Thank you !

This is such a cute dress! And I am super excited that you made a wrap dress video! Just wondering, does the skirt fall open a lot when you sit down? Is there any way to prevent that from happening?

T
The Closet Historian · August 26, 2020

Thank you Akinat! This skirt doesn't seem to spread apart much when I sit, but I always wear slips with my dresses anyways so I suppose I don't worry too much!

That is indeed very cute! Regarding the low cut, I think you cut the fabric on your fold line and didn't include a seam allowance? Could that have been the issue?

T
The Closet Historian · August 26, 2020

Thank you Susanne! I didn't add seam allowance along the neckline because I knew, due to the way I would be binding it, it would finish along the same cut edge, since the edge is just bound in the bias tape. So with binding I don't lose anything off the edge, but I shall adjust the pattern for next time :)
