Dispatch no. 4 - Updates Podcast

I'm sorry the podcast here is so short this month. I really just don't have a ton to say right now, as even as a talkative person by nature, this past month has left me rather stumped. It's hard to update you all on my progress when I really haven't exactly made much these past few weeks, spending more time listening and watching than I usually do. I hope to have some extra video content up for you all here soon to make up for my brevity.

Videos I have found helpful recently:

Trevor Noah's summaries in general, but this video in particular https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4amCfVbA_c

A Black Feminist Dialog about police abolition that I found very interesting and useful for further understanding the issue at hand   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4ofj__h7ss

Nathan Zed is a great creator generally, and here is his video about BLM suddenly being trendy  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bftJQ11f_XA

A Ted Talk I had never seen before, The danger of a single story from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9Ihs241zeg

A compilation of more resources introduced in this video from Wheezy Waiter  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDuMTvBHrU4&t=0s

Ways you can help  https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/

The Transgender Law Center  https://transgenderlawcenter.org/

Thank you so much for your continuing support, I hope to have more to share with you all soon. Have courage and stay safe <3

Most every day, I listen to or watch one of your posts (albeit completely out of order, sorry) and tonight it was this podcast. Thank you for caring about these important social issues, Bianca. Over the past year, I have come to realize just how privileged I have been. Being completely on my own this past year, I have had time to think about my past and the experiences I’ve had as a white, Canadian girl. I unknowingly enjoyed many benefits which were geared to people who look like me. I feel badly for this now and I know that is not good, either. I watch webinars and listen to credible sources and try to take in as much as I can so that I can work on my own behaviour and attitude going forward. Systemic racism exists in my dear, Canada, too. I am also aware of my own field as a classical musician playing the music of dead white guys. But I so love to play this music and practice continuously in order to improve my craft and bring difficult and beautiful music to life. I have on hold for me at the library, How to be an Antiracist, by Ibram Kendi. More than anything else, I am trying to be a good listener. Thanks again for articulating clearly, these troublesome feelings.

The world is changing, messages are being heard and shared and it is great that you re paying your part. That said, you have a job you have chosen and that you enjoy. So, how us your bathroom makeover. Show us more looks books AND keep spreading the messages. There is no reason in the world why you can't do both.

Thank you for your voice, your work and sharing your responses to this incredible changing world. I support you and your messages. I am a product of white privilege, I choose to actively consider this, Australia is a truly racist country with a culture of genocide - learning our people’s ancient culture is essential in bringing our country together. Actively being on the side of change and unity when you are essentially the embodiment of trauma is confronting and confusing, but so very needed. In so many ways this leaves me at odds with many people, it makes for a much quieter life. I have no advice, just follow with what we know is right. I appreciate your work choices as you focus on what your heart tells you to do...stay safe, stay hopeful and keep changing the world one day at a time.

Thanks for this podcast, I support you and believe in the message. I am reading "So you want to Talk About Race" by Ijeoma Olou. I work with a few people who sometimes makes subtle racist comments, and I am hoping the book will give me some of the language and confidence to effectively act as an ally. (Can't insert a new paragraph) You also discuss mustard yellow in this podcast. Totally by coincidence the day the Hufflepuff lookbook came out I was wearing a mustard blazer and mustard fascinator by Josie Tucker Millinery (sold on etsy). JTM is a Black owned small business. She makes wonderful hats and will customize. She's currently making a red tilt hat for me. If you're in the market for new hats, check her out.

Thank you Sarah <3 I always love mustard yellow and a new hat! I'd love to take more millinery classes one day, I was lucky enough to take a few while studying in London for a bit but I still have a lot to learn!
