I’m new to your Patreon, not new to your YouTube channel. So I thought I would start at the beginning. Listening to your cruise story breaks my heart for you because obviously this is just weeks before lockdown of the panini. I hope you do get to go on that cruise. Alaska is amazing, cruises are great. I’m an introvert and I love cruises because I can be alone looking at the ocean or reading in the library area/bar next to the library. Now I’m going to binge every podcast to see what happens.

Oh my, thank you so much for recommending Nicola White’s Mudlarking channel. I love it!! Thank you!!

What Luna Wolfbane said! :) I watched the live stream of the Dries van Noten show and must have watched it half a dozen times again since: absolutely magical collection and my favourite of the current shows. (Maybe not the shoes...) That documentary about him featuring his house and garden is glorious. He says at one point 'this in an intense house to live in', you're not kidding Dries!

Luna Wolfbane · March 11, 2020

Come back to London! I'll put you up and take you shoppiing!

The Closet Historian · March 13, 2020

I tentatively want to visit again next year as a 30th birthday present to myself, but I'll have to see how life goes!

Lorena · March 11, 2020

I was watching a couple of your accessories videos today, and it got me thinking - if one is wearing, say, all black with red accessories, it seems to me that a lot depends on the hat and gloves. What happens when you go inside, take them off and are left with just red shoes for example? Just throwin' it out there as an idea for either a video or the next podcast...?

L
Lorena · March 12, 2020

oh ok, I just started watching your hats video, and I see many aspects of this question have been answered already. Sorry, still catching up on the backlog!

Chae Howard · March 10, 2020

The Broonfords channel on Youtube focuses on Edinburgh and has similar vibe to Joolz Guide, only you know, Scottish. I can't watch it too much anymore because I will just miss being in Edinburgh again.

C
Chae Howard · March 10, 2020

I would love to hear anything about your book as long as you're comfortable doing so.

C
Chae Howard · March 10, 2020

I am sooooooo excited for your Blade Runner lookbook. I'm hoping that amazing green raincoat comes into play.

T
The Closet Historian · March 13, 2020

Thank you Chae! I definitely took doing the lookbook as an excuse to finally get one of those Elements raincoats, so it will be in it for sure!

Thank you Clara, I just need an extra jolt of courage eek! Perhaps something soon :)

Really enjoyed this podcast, thank you! I loved the blue check garment @1:49 in Dries Van Noten Fall/Winter 2020 Show. Loved the cut, the style - yep, I'd wear that in a heartbeat. I too haven't seen Blade Runner yet. Love your styling so looking forward to seeing your lookbook :) BTW, thank you for your reply re one of my comments in re to draping fabric in pattern making. Much appreciated. I discovered a youtube channel Diane Deziel that helped too. https://youtu.be/aHSQSiFosjI. Warmest regards from Down Under <3

T
The Closet Historian · March 8, 2020

Thank you Rhonda! There are some really fantastic sewing/pattern drafting/fitting teachers on youtube. Much better than paying for an apparel design degree I'd even say!

Karel Jennings · March 5, 2020

Lovely podcast. I haven't seen Bladerunner, but I'm looking forward to your styes. You might check out Curiosity Inc on youtube. Alexander Archbold has a vintage/general store in Edmonton, Alberta. I'll bet he could tell you of West Coast places to thrift. Also, people should know that Mudlarking in illegal in England unless you apply in advance and get a permit. The British are rightfully possessive of their archeological finds. Thanks again for the enjoyable podcast.

T
The Closet Historian · March 8, 2020

Thank you Karel! I'll have to check out that channel as I have never heard of it, thank you for the recommendation!

Mel S. · March 5, 2020

Would love to hear about your cats for sure! All sorts of kitty details!! Would love to hear more about how long your sewing takes, and how you break it up...like, how long does a particular project actually take in real time versus the edited time we see? Or how do you break up your sewing--do you only work on one garment at a time until it is finished, or do you work a little bit on a few garments at a time? Any rhyme or reason to it??

T
The Closet Historian · March 5, 2020

Thank you Mel! I shall indeed answer your sewing questions next time and talk through my process :)

E
Elina Salonen · March 5, 2020

I really like this podcast! I'd love to hear more about your sewing, writing and other creative projects.

Thank you Elina!

Stephanie Miller · March 5, 2020

You have a wonderful voice which is one of the reasons I gravitated towards your YouTube channel. That plus the amazing detail you go into when pattern drafting. It is much appreciated to this somewhat beginner seamstress! Regarding Blade Runner - one of my classes in college towards my minor in philosophy was Philosophy in Film, and although we watched and discussed several movies, Blade Runner is the one I enjoyed and now remember the best from that class. Most of our discussions centered around the religious iconography and undertones, and the meaning of self, what does it mean to be human. Still one of my favorite movies because it doesn't have a cut and dry protagonist. You can argue it either way. All of that to say that I am excited to see your Blade Runner lookbook. You keep doing you and we patreons will be happy to support your art!

T
The Closet Historian · March 5, 2020

Thank you Stephanie! I feel like they could have entire semester long courses on just the ideas and conundrums presented in Blade Runner. When is a clone/machine a human? What defines humanity anyway? Even if something isn't human, if it is sentient doesn't that make it worthy of certain rights? What does killing do to ones own humanity? Can someone who's entire worldview is constructed of false memories be considered to have a full unique personality, make their own decisions? Et cetera ad infinitum really!

Kimberly Costa · March 5, 2020

I really enjoyed the Podcast. It was like listening to a friend, so well done. Why not read snippets of those prequel chapters? It would remove any fear about publishing your books, since you don’t plan to include them.

T
The Closet Historian · March 5, 2020

Thank you Kimberly! I think the prequel chapters are quite spoilery for the novels unfortunately, as they contain details of events that are revealed slowly in the main plot of the books. I would prefer people are introduced to the characters the way they are "first" introduced I suppose, and I fear the prequel chapters would remove the mystery! Perhaps I will sort through and find one which does not do so sometime, though I am still kind of in the middle of writing the prequel stuff right now. Writing is weird...basically :)

B
Bree · March 5, 2020

No, thank YOU for sharing your artistry and gifts with us! I'm so excited for your Bladerunner lookbook. I would definitely be interested in hearing or reading a snippet of your story, but wouldn't want to have that hamper any chances you have of being published. I really enjoyed this first podcast and can't wait for the next one!

T
The Closet Historian · March 5, 2020

Thank you Brianne! If I had more time I would love to write a separate serial or series of fiction podcast episodes that I could release without those kinds of worries, never intending to publish that sort of thing in any other way. I know some authors have released bits of writing on patreon before (Hank green even I believe!) without trouble, but the "rules" of it all are quite foggy and grey.

L
Lorena · March 5, 2020

I enjoyed your first podcast! Excited for the Bladerunner lookbook! That's an interesting offer of yours to read bits of your book to us, I think that would be fabulous. The only thing is, will you want our critiques if we have any? And if so, to what extent... might need some guidelines there, since we could end up getting all sorts of outspoken if you give everyone free reign? Thanks Bianca, I'm really happy to be supporting you, although I can't afford to give much.

T
The Closet Historian · March 5, 2020

Thank you Lorena! I'm afraid I wouldn't be looking for critiques in general, as the work in question is quite "done", has been read in full by half a dozen beta readers who I've already considered and incorporated feedback from, and I have edited the manuscript many many (perhaps 30+?) times. It is no longer an in-progress draft, it is complete and ready for agents and I would only change things at this point at the request of a literary agent or editor at a publishing house. I realize that probably sounds quite big headed of me, but I am very confident in the book, and feel it is done. I would only do a recording of a chapter as a curiosity sort of thing, since so many people have asked to hear/read some of it, not out of any potential work-shopping sort of desire. This is hard to explain without sounding like a terrible narcissist I now understand. What I mean to convey is that I consider the work finished, whether folks like it or not, or have opinions on the characters/voice/style and such will be up for debate surely, but in my eyes it is complete. Perhaps I will simply wait until the work is indeed published one day and therefore "unchangeable" to do such readings, it is hard to decide. Hoping I don't just sound like a complete jerk here!
