New Lighting! And an Update on the Bolero Suit

I hope you've all been having a great week :) I'm still running a bit behind, but I am super happy with how this new bolero set came out in the end. I'll be editing away for the rest of the night now so you can all see how I drafted and sewed this set together soon. See you then! <3

THANK YOU! Also, Playing With New Lighting! (YouTube)

Thank you so much for making your bolero suit. You have inspired me to finally get off my butt and create my own blocks and attempt to make some vintage inspired clothing.

I do LOVE that suit! I definitely think I need to add it to my To-Sew list. I am so glad you decided to do Patreon and that I am able to contribute in a small way. I love the content you put out and I am so glad you can continue and have fun and more interaction while doing so. :)

Love the suit! I do have a question, though. I am disabled and no longer able to drive, so am dependent on my husband and a few friends to get about. Most of my time is spent housebound; I don't often go places where dressier vintage style clothing is appropriate. Are there more casual items you could demonstrate that could be worn to sporting events, an extremely casual church, and just hanging about the house? I have made several of your skirts, but find my dog and cat just don't appreciate the effort I put into them!

Thank you Kerel! I'm afraid I just have never focused much on more casual vintage style things myself, but I do want to make a 1940's lounge wear set soon, so the most casual of casual projects may be coming to the channel once I get a bit more time. I think part of it all is too that casual vintage outfits, say a housedress, or a skirt and blouse, are still considered quite formal by modern standards, but would have been quite casual in the past perhaps. Not everyone looked like a vogue editorial in the 50's either I realize, but even more "casual" outfits from the 40's and 50's look quite dressed up to modern eyes. The best sources for inspiration for more casual looks I think are old candids, and pinterest is my favorite place to browse such things. This article from Vintage Dancer might provide some inspiration as well https://vintagedancer.com/1940s/1940s-casual-outfits-summer-clothes/

Thank you! I really should update all my icons because I don't have long hair anymore (and haven't had for years) but I really do love that picture so I just can't do it!

Firstly, you look enchanting as always. Love you in a 30's look. Secondly, you're so welcome. The support you have received is indicative of how much we bloody love you! Finally, it makes me smile when you say making an entire bolero suit, including the patterning, filming your progress, modelling and editing is you having a lazy week! You are queen of productivity and I adore this! Let's not even talk about what word count you knocked out this week too!

T
The Closet Historian · February 7, 2020

Thank you Zowie! I assure you word count is not where I'd like either this week ;) Working on that hopefully too!

So excited for this bolero set! A set like this has been my absolute top wishlist item forever! Hopefully this will motivate me to actually get into sewing so I can make this for myself!

The very long video is finally finished and will be up tomorrow (Friday!) and I hope it is helpful! This isn't such a bad beginner-ish level project either really!

Dear lord sweetie you are absolutely stunning in this suit...gobsmacked My mum was born in 1928 and like you looked amazing in these suits, she was a tailoress before marrying...I was an oooopppsss baby when they were 40... So, long story short...in the most glorious way, you totally remind me of how stunning my mum was in her heyday... Thank you sweetie, you have made my day xxx LIGHTS ARE FABULOUS 😃😃😃😃😃😄😄😄😄

The Closet Historian · February 7, 2020

Thank you Raelene! I'm sure I could learn a ton about proper sewing technique from women like your mom, they had the real skills back then that have too often been forgotten now! <3
