A Summer of Goth Gunne Sax Continues...
I know I maybe didn't choose the most popular style to start with over on the channel...but here is another! These Gunne Sax designs are just so straight forward to draft from the basic blocks, I can't help but demo them when the prices for the vintage patterns and dresses have gone so bonkers sky high! DIY that nonsense pals ✨
Let me know if you want to see the skirt as well, it's basically the skirt from the dress on the channel but with pockets!

Yay for the carmine gown fabric! I like the dark, western vibe, too. If you swapped the skirt for a kilt and made the top part out of black velvet, then it would be like what the Scottish Highland dancers wear. I always wanted one of those outfits, especially the black velvet vest. I took Scottish dancing when i was 3, but didn’t get very far with that. My grandparents were world travellers and had bought me a lovely little blue/green wool kilt from Scotland. Calming colours.💙💚
Throwing my vote in for a skirt video! Love this version!
Well that took me long enough, live got crazy, the positive thing about not having time to watch any videos is that now I had a lot to just sit and watch like a marathon when sick of the heat (literally, so done with it, on our second heat wave but while not as hot as the first, it hits harder) Thank you for sharing your talent with us. This may not be my style but I love seeing a completely different style.
I would love to see the skirt process. The bodice is gorgeous!
The more I think about this design and final pieces all together the more I am drawn to it. Curiosity, intrigue, dare it be, Fun. Nice one 💙
Thank you for these videos, I liked so much details from both dresses 😍 There are several details in both that I would like to use for myself 🤔 And I really enjoyed the longer videos.
Yes, your hosta will get bigger every year, at least for several years. 🌱
love this version of Gunne Sax, even though it's not really my style but it turned out really fantastic!
I love how “you” you are. You know yourself and seem comfortable with exactly who you are. I’ve watched your for years, and you have encouraged me to try things that intimidate me. The drafting dangerous series is fabulous, but I also love the home design videos and the wandering the stores video. I guess just any Bianca videos! You are fifty-two kinds of fabulously awesome.
I looove that s so much!! And I needed this so much today. I felt it deep within my bones when you mentioned not being interested in talking to men... Had to deal with the fragile-est of masculinities today, and I'm over it!
Yes please! Yes, to gothic Prairie- can we make it a cool vampire story? Also, yes! Please show the skirt construction it is SO cute!!!
I’m wondering if a slightly wider “belt” would look better? And hey, you did all the work/filming for the skirt, you might as well use it for a video. Maybe even on the main channel
Very fun video - and I like the calico fabric. Gunne Sax also made some hooded capes - would love to see you make a replica of one of those.
Gunslinger Witch, the best D&D class. I like Limelight hydrangeas -- they're chartreuse and white. There's also one that's green and light pink, but I can't remember the name. I'm not far north of you and find that in this heat I have to water every other day.
Yes to skirt please! I prefer long sleeves in summer bc i hate the sticky film from sunscreen. I've been known to pop open a brolly in lieu of a parasol too.
My mom dressed me in Gunne Sax as a child, and I loved them. My tastes have changed quite a bit, but a goth version of Gunne Sax is an idea I can get behind! Thank you as always for the inspiration. I'd like to see the skirt construction, as well.
On your not being interested in motherhood or talking to men - the only "man" i was ok talking to was my "husband". The quotes are because she came out as a trans woman a few years back, and is now my wife. As for hydrangeas, these are ones on my wish list, which I think you might like: Hydrangea macrophylla Rembrandt Rosso Glory Blue Hydrangea macrophylla Rosie Blue Hydrangea macrophylla Curly Sparkle Purple Hydrangea macrophylla Feather Blue 'H217904' Hydrangea macrophylla Kardinal Lilac Hydrangea macrophylla Jip Blue Hydrangea macrophylla Rembrandt Dolce Chic Blue Hydrangea macrophylla Black Steel Zsasa
It's so cool! I think your pointy neckline works much better than the round one. More harmonious with the peplum. I agree about the belt though, it would work better in solid black. Also I agree about poly satin ribbon, my eyeballs can't not see it as cheap and icky. The converter I just googled says 87 F is 30 C, which is the exact same temperature I'm sweating through today :(
I had all of the Gunne Sax and Laura Ashley when I was in college in the 80s and I gave them all to a thrift store when I moved into my ex’s small apartment in NYC in the late 90s. I’ve always regretted it, but I’ve replaced some through the years. I hit the jackpot on some of the Laura Ashley ones at a thrift store this weekend.
secondly, I have a modern machine with the 100's of decorative stitches and I have tried to use them. They all seem to be very anemic looking. I have heard a heaver thread, Top stitch thread, maybe could make these decorative stitches look better. Does anyone have any ideas about this? I know using a satin stitch would work, but it uses soooo much thread.
Two things: Are we supposed to have the lower leg of the side dart horizontal? My self drafted patterns have the top leg horizontal, could that be why I have some fitting issues with the waist darts? Perhaps it is causing the odd angles of fabric in the side under bust area?
The dart legs can be anywhere and it doesn't change the fit, they can be at any angle from the apex to a seam, as long as the degree of dart fullness is the same, the fit is the same. So I don't think it would matter, unless you are using the loosiest goosiest woven fabric of all time and the bias is cray stretchy. Those are official terms of course
I love your work and you look stunning in that outfit. I an tempted by your mention of pockets, and I'd never turn down one of your videos lol. I really do like your goth inspired variation on these dresses!
Yay!
I would love to see a video of the skirt construction!
I LOVE Gunne Sax dresses … unfortunately they don’t love ME, not sure what there is about, they just don’t look good on me. But I’ll watch ANY video that shows me how to put pockets in a skirt!!!
I love to see the skirt construction, yes please🥰. And I do love your design better than the Gunne Sax ones. Too frilly for my taste 😅
I'm loving these videos! Wonderful nostalgia. I'm from the generation when you could buy Gunne Sax dresses new. I loved mine so much I kept it. Your goth versions are fabulous and now I can make one that fits me now.
Wanted one growing up & now… very oolala! Tempted!!
Yes please to skirt and pockets video! Loving the Goth Gunne Sax 🖤
just about to watch! would love to see the skirt, especially with the pockets! i will never pass up an opportunity to watch another one of your videos.
Hear hear!
Bugger I have just used a satin bias ribbon to hem my GS - not gonna show you now.....
Look, you are not alone, I'm just a persnickety wierdo 😂
I can only press seams when the solar panels are generating enough. Sometimes seams and darts just have to wait.......oh my!
BIANCA WITH POCKETS? I don't know this world anymore....
Facts, no bolder example of me sewing for camera and not for my own sensibilities could be found 🤣
You continue to create and inspire me to pursue my sewing. I would love to see another late Victorian or Edwardian creation. 🤞🤞🤞
I forgot! Here is the sleeve placket I tried: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzEhxiMWzYU&t=805s
I’ve never been more excited. This is the best thing yet!! And you’ve made some awe inspiring outfits.
Thank you J!!
Marry me???!!!!!!!! 🖤💔
😂 Happy to help!
