Marble Jacquard Skirt & Foyer Floor Update
In reality, I am in the middle of chipping old brittle plywood off of the floor in front of my front door, so sewing sounds a lot nicer right about now! I can't wait to have the woodchips and dust all properly cleared away, the floors finally painted, and the furniture back in it's place soon 😩 Then I can finally sit in here, read a book, and enjoy the way light filters through "colored" glass.

The way my ginger kitten (adolescent? about 8 months) is yelling at me for breakfast just as your ginger is yelling at you for dinner feels...correct. 😊
Ugh, I know how you feel. I want to sew but I bought a fixer-upper bungalow and I feel so guilty sewing and not working one of my many house projects.
There are always more house projects, but sewing is also important!
The wood in your house is better, by far, than any wood you can buy now a days. I would recommend not removing the floor boards unless you really have to. My brother in law replaced rotted wood in my in laws 1890's house in NJ and the new wood rotted very quickly. The old wood is so much better than any wood available today. That is why there is a market for old wood to be reused. It is that the old wood was old growth, the new wood is modified to grow fast and thus is less dense, weaker and more prone to rot and other damage.
This does indeed make sense, the old wood has been holding up for 130 years so far so hopefully it will continue to!
Beautiful job, love the paint work. I use vinegar in a spray bottle on windows and mirror - works a treat.
Pressed enter before I finished again- You are doing great. Go easy on yourself. It is so very tough removing the ply that has been nailed down, I feel for you. I hope that you can change the gas heater, but I agree that it should be possible to change the colour of it as other commenters have said. It does not look like enamel paint? It must be so welcoming to have access to an immediate heat when you come back home after a cold day, and close the door. Best of luck as always.
They make high temperature stove paint! That might be an option for you. Stove Bright seems to be widely carried. We've used Rust-Oleum high heat paint on our kettle grills, too.
Unfortunately I can't move the stove, it's connected to the gas line and also far too heavy for little ol' me. I could get something that brushes on, but I worry about the pilot light, ventilation etc with that option, in addition to brush strokes 😅
Loving the looks- foyer and outfit!
Thank you!
Foyer looks amazing! Skirt is also stunning and what an outfit for the jazz bar! As for the finicky machine maybe the motor needs to be cleaned. Sometimes carbon can build up inside with lots of use and cause small stuttering stops to happen that impact the machine timing. Could be worth having it serviced but after a good service cleaning it may fix that thread issue.
Thank you Amy! I look forward to playing with the thread again after I put my furniture back in the foyer 😅
Gorgeous! What an outfit ❤️ Foyer progress looks amazing and that plywood situation sounds miserable. I hope you can get a new stove situation, that would be awesome.
Thank you Sarah! I can confirm I defeated the plywood woooo!
I would love to see you create a handbag with the remaining fabric!
Another stunning piece. Can I say I have ‘wardrobe envy’?? Have you considered the possibility of having someone repaint the the stove/heater? I’m sure it’s probably a baked enamel coating but they DO make heat resistant enamel paints … just a thought (if you can’t get a ‘swap’ and/or discount). The entire house is becoming a masterpiece in itself!!
Thank you Debra! I do figure the cost to have the stove unhooked from the gas line, moved, painted, and then re-installed might be about the same as swapping out for a black one 😂
Another beautiful outfit, that fabric is spectacular! Your home is becoming a masterpiece, thank you for the ongoing updates.
Thank you Jacqueline!
Thank you for the update on your front entryway dilemma. The skirt is stunning. Please don't be hard on yourself. You are fabulous, darling. Chin up, precious, and much love to you!
Thank you Stephanie!
Thank you for sharing your progress on the foreboding foyer. 🦇 I have no experience, but it seems like you may be able to paint your gas stove with a high temperature black paint? It sounds like it annoys you equally that it’s so big though, so I understand wanting a more unobtrusive model.
Painting the stove also just seems super annoying, mostly because it's hooked up to the gas line with a live pilot light and that sounds flammable!
