Just can't help myself...
Okay, I'll admit it, I painted the foyer two shades lighter than the trim...and if the trim is black, then I'd say the walls are now uhhh off-black 🦇🤣 So much for charcoal gray, I think I've got anthracite instead.
Do I love it? Yeah? Is it darker than I was planning to go while I save up for the wallpaper? Also yes, technically. So I was thinking I juuuust might do a touch of stenciling on top just for fun. The idea would be to use the green tone from the ceiling (and the left over green paint) to do a little something. Jury is out on whether I also add a little shading to the tracery frieze to make it look "3d"-ish, which was more common in the Victorian neo-gothic wallpapers.
Again, this would just be a temporary design while I save up for the real wallpaper next year, but I have more clear stencil plastic on the way in case I have time to try it out ✨
Thank you for your patience and support, I'll be back with the dress I started last month soon!

Do you worry that the rooms will be too dark?
I really like the shading. You do this crazy stuff so well!
I agree with the others your stencil work is beautiful! Does it actually need wallpaper?
Love! 💗
Love the shading!
I think with the way you paint and stencil there's no need for wallpaper. I think the wallpaper will never be able to outshine your paint job.
I think I prefer the first one! I love that they both look like they have a velvety touch. Black velvet wallpaper, is there such a thing, I wonder? I think my Dad had a tie out of a similar pattern back in the 80s. Don't lose Sophie in all of that black!🐈⬛
I love them both! But I think the 3D look would be pretty awesome 😆
Very nice. I love it
I like the 3D effect, shading on the second picture. Almost looks like some stone carving that I saw yesterday.
And I hit return to add a small paragraph… which posted the other comment… just want to say, whatever you do - I know it will be fab - your taste is just so amazing & FUN!! Fills me with admiration - I mean, I love our old house & we have filled it with old oriental rugs & antiques (Norway is cheap as most folks want all things Scandi so we have scooped up some lovely 1700s pieces…shipping is NOT cheap so don’t go thinking anything now! Cost the earth when I moved here & had some things sent.) But I do love the opulent fabulousness you are coming up with!!
Ohhh! That's a lovely design. Both look fabulous but definitely go for the 3D effect if you have the energy for the extra work it would entail. It's just that little bit more visually interesting - in case you have it longer than anticipated (if your wallpaper plans are delayed for any reason)
Such a lovely idea. I too prefer the 2nd option.
Love the stenciling & the shading absolutely adds extra depth & interest. I do find myself wondering if you hired a team to help you stencil & paint the walls vs wallpapering? Not my beeswax - just sharing a thought I had. Because your stenciling is much cooler than any wallpaper - my opinion. But I get that you want it to look like a tapestry ish…. but…. couldn’t you stencil that? I mean - that is how old wallpaper was printed, often just stencils…. 🤔🤷🏼♀️
I would go for no. 1, and if you have any gold left, paint the larger arches in gold. Spooky and cheeky ❤️
I love the highlights, I think it would bring more drama to the walls and the room.
Yes to no 2! Love the 3D effect
I like the highlights. I think while subtle its well worth the work. The lower stencil is giving me damask vibes. A lovely place to curl up in a chair reading a book by candle light during some atmospheric thunderstorm.
No need for wallpaper ... the stenciling is gorgeous!
Oo! Very pretty! Minimal makes sense, you could probably go even more sparse with it 🖤
I think this is very classy looking!
Loving the stencils and while it might be a bit darker than you intended, I think it suits the season. All of your color and stencil ideas have been fire so far. Don't doubt yourself now! The highlights added so much dimension! As for what else to add with your current leftover paint, I vote for bugs/moths. Something simple and not everywhere... Yeah, no matter what you do, it will be FABULOUS!
Oooo I like the highlights!
I like it. You’ve inspired me
Cooooool!
Lovely! I do hope the stencils also get used somewhere a bit more permanent though!
Yes to the second picture! Maybe you will like it so much you will decide not to paper that area?
Yeah I think it's time that you admitted that we like your art on the walls almost as much as we love your sewing I mean I do love a good dress don't get me wrong but the stuff you've been doing to that house is damn amazing
Yay, more painting!! This is very gothic. So fun!
I absolutely LOVE it!! Keep doing your house just the way YOU want it!
I had to shift between the pics about 5 times before I saw the second pic has highlights. I think the green is a great idea. I think I'm more excited for paint than the dress.
Good 3D effect there. Like stonework tracery.
