My Basic Bodice Blocks
Hello there everyone! As a part of making Drafting Dangerous over on the channel, I scanned my personal bodice blocks for use if desired! These will fit a size Bianca: 42" bust, 30" waist, 36 DD. Or at least I like the way they fit me!
The proportions otherwise are customized to my own body of course, but if you use these the same way I did the fitting shell in that old video on the channel, you could technically adjust them to your own needs.
Sadly I don't know how best to format these things for printing and that sort of fancy stuff, but if you do and want to help me out...DM me maybe 😅
Thank you and have a great weekend!

I’m going to start my own bodice block soon! I tried it once before but ran out of steam. I have a really silly question though - I want to make a hip length fitted jacket. The bodice block only goes to the waist. Do I also do a pencil skirt block and somehow mesh them together or is it possible to do it all in one? Thanks!
That’s amazing, Bianca. I will try to adjust it to my own measurements, which aren’t too different from yours. 😃
HAHAHAH I HAVE THE POWER I have not made much progress on my own block yet but at least with a miniature block I can "play along with the home game" for pattern drafting videos. (I just made myself a miniature "all in one" and I'm inordinately proud of myself.)
Thank you for sharing these Bianca! The new series has really put me back on the sewing wagon after a one month break. However, as a fellow lover of viscose/rayon crepes, I wonder if you could help with an issue I’ve noticed on a second garment now. Namely that ruffles are very easily squished when pressing the seams they are sewn in, to the extent that they become almost unnoticeable. I have tried hitting with more steam, and on an older project even washing doesn’t restore them. Would you have any wisdom you could share on this conundrum? Thank you!
Unfortunately I am not a good person to ask about ruffles, as I never use them myself so I have no experience! I would try using an actual clothing steamer and steaming from the inside, but that is my experience working at Banana Republic years ago talking more than from sewing sadly 😅
Will you do skirt blocks too? 👏
Yes I will do sleeves next, then skirts, and eventually trousers ✨
We're similar proportions and seeing yours is really helping me troubleshoot mine! Also, Patreon somehow forgot my payment info, I didn't intentionally unsub 😭
Getting the darn armscyes right is always my least favorite part personally 🥵 And no worries!! Thank you for being here ❤
I'll be using surefit designs to create my block, like you said it needs to be adjusted to my body to create the block.. 🤙🤙🤙 Thank you for your inspiration and support!!
The surefit system seems so extra to me, but the women working there are true fit experts, so I trust their assistance!! They have great fitting tips on youtube as well
Thank you for sharing this!! I tried making a block but haven’t been able to perfect it and our measurements are very similar 42-31-42. Excited to give it a try!
(Sorry if you've already answered this question.) Do you have recommendations for where to start when making your own bodice block? I struggle a lot because my bust and shoulders are not near the proportions of most existing patterns.
I have many a video indeed! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cu3dMzaGnvA&t=3020s and here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weIdvU0g4tk&list=PLxmC6PRxKKf_2gZzEIthYikg-u-Vr6pbT
I am just finishing up Sloper School with Cashmerette. The Sloper will be a block for me. It's isn't exactly perfect but I figure I am not exactly perfect either. I think I can use it to make some of the wonderful styles you share with us. I can barely wait!
Good work!! Exacting perfection can be refined along the journey, it's important to call it "good enough" at some point ❤
Thank you. I’m still trying to perfect my blocks. The shoulder slope seemed right, then there were weird wrinkles. My measurements are different— bust 36” (mostly my wide back), waist 28”. I’ll get there.
The shoulder slope is deceptively annoying, I struggle to perfect mine as well! You can do it, and if its a little off for a while, you'll find it eventually! It took me ages 😅❤
I’ve just rejoined Patreon a week or so ago after a hiatus. You had just published the vid about basic blocks and I thought ‘if only I could just get my hands on Bianca’s blocks as were such similar measurements’. Hahaha the universe obviously intends for me to do more sewing! Thanks for sharing!
The ether says get drafting ✨ Thank you for your support!
I sell digital sewing patterns (cosplay/fantasy stuff, I'm a brand new baby business myself), and I DM'ed you a video on Instagram about how to set up printing templates in Adobe Illustrator! I set up blank templates for A4/A0/Letter patterns 2 years ago and have been using them ever since. Otherwise, the PDF you sent out can be opened in Adobe PDF Reader and printed out at 100% scale in Poster Mode (it'll be about 6 pages in portrait mode probably). If you need more info I'm happy to supply what I can! I'm @grangertales on Instagram, or ShortwaistPatterns on Etsy
Thank you Emily!! I'm a mess but I need to get back to you 😅❤
